Re: any tips for playing pokemon

Few things here:1. Ruby/Sapphire I was able to beat without any actual sighted help. No, I couldn't fish, but I didn't care. I couldn't do contests either, but the core game was entirely beatable. Also, Ruby/Sapphire do not, as far as I remember, have wrapping menus. Heart Gold/Soul Silver are way, way worse for this; the bag system in that game is brutal. In third generation and below, the bag is really simple.2. Black and White 2 are very accessible in a lot of ways, but they, too, have weird features of the bag I believe where things cascade. In addition, there are a few issues. First, there's that area near Vurbank City; it's pretty optional, but it's hard to get through that area by following walls since there's a raised walkway in the center and it's difficult (not impossible) to navigate it without falling off (while you're walking on raised piping, I mean). Second, there's Skyla's gym, which I have never been able to do by myself. Third, there's the Plasma base with the switches and password; not 100% inaccessible, but very difficult to do without sighted help. Ruby-Sapphire have no such issues.3. I can confirm that heart gold/soul silver, while they do have step sounds in some places, do not make noise when you slide on ice. With both an inability to hear when you're sliding and the fact that those ice puzzles make the ones in Manamon 2 look like child's play, that's a hard stop for a lot of people. So I'm still set on ruby-sapphire being overall the most accessible gen. Black and white 2 are a close second though, and they did improve a lot of things.I can't speak to any gen past the fifth. I hear that X and Y are playable, but tricky. I hear ORAS are playable as well, but again, tricky. I don't know how playable the seventh gen games are, and I'm not sure about why Sword/Shield's controversy informs how accessible they are.

Polosses will be one-shotted by Lunar Cannon probably. And it will take decent damage from Wraith's Curse and Meteor Rush as well. I mean, your strat will work, but not flawlessly.Derekedit, the "clip clop" stuff is...just a little bit excessive. You've done that twice now. A few examples (using a word four or five times) would've gotten the point across. Having like two lines of it? A bit much.

@ross:Well, I didn't say that Generation 6+ games aren't playable, I just don't recommend to try. They are beatable, yes, but thanks to nitpicky details like Wall sounds playing only once when walking against them, even though the step sounds continue to play due to round edges and the 3D world, things got alot harder since then. I didn't try Sword and Shield yet, they're still lying around in one of my shelves right now, got more urgent games at hand ATM. I played all games from every generation up to this point and tried them on my own as well, same goes for all the spin-offs, and X and Y, Sun And Moon etc. were modified in a way that it quickly killed the fun for me playing those without sighted help. I'd however love to see a blind Let's Play on them one day, because I cannot believe that someone would really go through the huzzle to do so without sighted help. Round edges make it that you cannot properly remember the map anymore, because you can slide on walls and end up far more up than you expected to when you just pressed the left or right control pad and such things. I also want to see how you handled the Ultra Sun and Moon's first or second island challenge, where the Pokemon have to be lurked out of their caves and they'll run from you into any random direction into another cave, and you can literally play this game forever in a loop if you don't know where to look for them, and you deffinitely need vision for that to see. The only way I can think off is that you got massively lucky, and I played that game for like 2 hours without getting that lucky until I finally gave up and called for help. I'm a bit sceptical to be honest. But maybe i'm getting old and am not as creative as I was years ago .

Re: My problem with the Blindy handbook

Its not. I stopped buying movies from the itunes because of this. Their mentality? O, screw old movies, even if they have audio description... screw it. I mean, could they add old movies with audio description in there? Hell yes. That, plus they have very little content compared to say, the audio vault. Well, and because of the drm. That's my biggest reason. I mean, just what!!! I get why they do it, but still. It is beyond ridiculous. That's like buying a physical book, but you have to sign a notice that says, o yeah, you can only read this book at home. You cannot take it out with you; it has to stay at home; we will Monitor this at all times. If we see that your not complying... we will remove this book from you; even though its yours, we have a record that you purchaced it; we'll take it; and we'll block your access to buy books from this and any other books at our store. Granted, this would never happen; but I only said to explain what drm is. And people think this will stop the ilegal shit. Hell; it won't; it will have the contrary effect though. I mean, drm is saying the following, you bought this, but we can fuck you over if we so wish at any time, for any reason; even though you bought the thing and now its yours to do with as you wish. What if I buy a movie or a book; but I don't want to watch it in the default app from apple, or readi it in the kindle or books app. What if I prefer something else? Another app which I am more comfortable using? O yeah, I cant do it,  because of drm. Ever since I realised this; I stopped buying books from amazon, itunes, etc, and movies for this very reason. I get my books from bookshare and other sights; but i'm not willing to put on with this kind of behavier of... Only play or read this here; else fuck you. Heck, around 2008 or there abouts, apple used to do this kind of shit with music as well, having it protected with drm; and yes, i mean music you bought through the itunes store; and now look;they got rid of it. Thing is, if the passed has already taught people how stupid this is; then learn from it, don't just, repeat the same mistakes!!! And the excuse for drm? So that people won't, edit, or share, the material. Really? I call bullshit. First. If someone edited said material and posted it out there... You can bet they would be sued in less time it takes someone to blink; for obvious reasons; same goes for sharing. I mean, they always make it clear in copyright with parts like,  this material may not be distributed without express permition of the author or publisher. I mean, its there for all to see... And i bet as much as 85percent, if not more; of people wouldn't want a law sue up their ass. Drm is just, its beyond stupid; but as people don't learn from their fuck ups... its still here. Some never learn i guess. Drm is fine for say, a streaming service weather its movies or music, but for something you bought? Hell no. That's the point that i'm making here, for stuff you buy that has drm. For streaing services, duh, since your not buying the music nore the movies your watching or the books your reading; I agree with that. But for stuff you buy? Just no.

Re: cheap but decent microphones?

In my experience, USB mics normally come with a stand mount that you can use to mount the mic to either a tripod that comes with the mic, or a tabletop or boom stand or something like that, which you'll have to purchase separately. Sometimes these stand mounts are custom-built for the particular mic, but other times, especially if the mic is small and thin, you can just use a standard mount to get it on a stand. I'm starting to prefer this, since if the mount breaks, you can just buy another one and you can get them cheap. However, the only mics I've seen which work this way are the XLR ones, not USB. But my experience in mics in general isn't especially wide, so you'll have to do your own research.Audio Technica stuff usually sounds good, but is a little too inexpensive for me. My ATR 2500 had a little more bass than I like and, unless you put on a shock mount, it would have thumping and low frequency handling noise like nobody's business. I never got into the shock mount thing; when I saw shock mounts, they looked especially complicated to figure out. Not to mention, after about a year, the stand mount it came with literally cracked and snapped apart in my hands without warning. The mic itself is fine, but from the research I did, I couldn't just get a new stand mount; I'd have to get a new mic. To be fair, I got the mic for a pretty good price, $65 I believe. Their stuff, as pointed out, is pretty inexpensive so they wouldn't be bad choices imho. Samson stuff is too, though my friend had a Samson mic and it was pretty hissy and its volume scaling was really broken. Iirc, set it to 70 percent and it's quiet, set it to 80 and it's blaring your head off. They're certainly an improvement over internal mics, but you have to be careful of things like that if you're looking for budget equipment. A Youtube channel I particularly enjoy perusing through is podcastage. They cover all kinds of USB and other mics and in each video, the guy performs very similar routines and tests, so you'll be reasonably sure that you're getting a fair comparison.Ah, the Blue Yeti. I went through at least 3 of them and the issue with them was always the same: the USB connection would deteriorate to the point where it couldn't hold and the mic wouldn't work. None of my Yeti mics lasted for more than a year. at the time I was dealing with this, I didn't know USB mics could last longer, so I happily went out and got replacements or asked for a replacement on my birthdays and Christmas. Eventually I decided to get the Yeti pro which offers higher quality recording. Unfortunately it requires a special driver in order for this to work, and that driver was not working well on my Windows 7 machine. After e-mailing Blue microphones about it, I was essentially told that their driver was only tested on Windows XP, that if I wanted up-to-date tested drivers, they were only available for Mac at the current time. Of course, things may have changed since then (this was in 2012 so almost 8 years ago), but those combined experiences, in addition to hearing examples of their lower end mics such as the Snowball and not liking them much, got me thinking that maybe I should be looking for something else. And while the Yeti has some nice qualities, essentially bundling 4 mics in one package, I realized that I didn't need them all. I only really needed cartioid (picking up sound from the front) and thus I could spend less money on a mic specifically designed for that purpose, and the market is saturated with options on that front.Right now I use the Rode NT-USB. It's more expensive, around $180, but I've had mine for over 3 years and the only things that are wrong with it are a big dent in the front, which is my fault, and two weeks ago I had to replace the cable. But the mic is a trooper and still works well. It sounds, well, I can't say it sounds great because I disliked it when I first got it, but if I compare it to my other mics, I can safely say it's an improvement over any of them. Hey, it'd make a good Christmas present if you have folks like mine who keep asking you what to ask Santa for. Haha

Heck, around 2008 or there abouts, apple used to do this kind of shit with music as well, having it protected with drm; and now look;they got rid of it. Thing is, if the passed has already taught people how stupid this is; then learn from it, don't just, repeat the same mistakes!!! And the excuse for drm? So that people won't say, edit, or share, the material. Really? I call bullshit. First. If someone edited said drm protected material and posted it out there... Just no.

I think that's why. I mean, it has always been popcorn, changing it all of sudden would definitely take some getting use to. I think popcorn sounds nicer myself, but the answer is somewhere between those two things

Some cost even more than this.  I mean when you put it in normal terms, I agree, $150 isn't cheep, but compared to how much mikes can cost? That's cheep as shit. Hell, the mike i'm saving up to buy is around $300,  $400 a $150 mike compared to that... cheep. As one of the best teacher's i've had likes to say... it depends, it depends, it depends.Still trying to find out what shotgun mike I have; i love it. I know its from audio technica... but as for the specific mike name? Still trying to find that out.@10, that narrows things down a bit. I have a vocal mike, but its not a sm57 or sm58, its a brand that's not as comun, but its good, have to check the name though, as I don't have it committed to memory. Vocals wise though, sm's tend to be pritty good, those are the standard as vocal mikes go in-fact, particularly the sm 57 or 58. When I check my vocal mike that I have, i'll let you know, but I don't have it with me as of now. As for the cost it was somewhere around $65, $75? As for a description... Its stock, where you grip it is pritty solid, the whole mike is pritty solid as mikes go, it doesn't require a battery to power it on given its dynamic,  it takes the power from the recorder, and no, it doesn't use phantom power. The mike has a switch that can be flipped up / down to turn it on / off respectively. I'll let you know more once I get back to my dorm in college and look at the mike, I couldn't bring all my equipment with me for this holidays, not this time at least. I'll definitely let you know though what's it called.

Re: Resident Evil 7

Hi.Am I and Seby the only one who are playing this game?I'm bringing up this old topic again, because I'm currently giving the game yet an other try after I nearly had given up because of the movement issues I'm having on my XBox.I'm really glad I gave the game an other try, because I figured out something awesome, which I need to play some more with to get confirmed that it works like it seems to do:It seems like, if you move the right analog stick to look up or down to reach an object, this will get back to the defaults so you look strait again if you save your game and then load your saved game. That means I found a solution at the place I was stuck. It seems like you are forced to look down to unlock the trapdoor in chapter 2 when escaping from Jack. that was giving me lots of movement issues, because I find it difficult to look strait again, and moving the analog stick up or down does also seem to turn the character which makes the situation even worse. I'll get lots of sighted help in the future because of an awesome change in my life which is totally off topic for gaming, but that means I'll be able to check up on lots of things regarding to playable games in the future. When you have to pick up the phone, it also seems like you need to look down. I couldn't get croch to work.So here is how I solved this issue:1. As soon as I entered the room with the phone, I found the tape recorder to save the game.2. Reloaded my saved game, which both turned me into the right direction, and made me look strait again.3. Answered the phone which screwed up my movement again.4. Saved the game again and reloaded to continue.I even tried to answer the phone three times to make sure it wasn't just by luck. I'm sure this strategy will save me a ton of frustration in the future.I'm now in the garage where I have to fight Jack.If I ever complete the game, then I will help by making a lot of notes on how I do it. Maybe make some recordings as well. Well, we'll see how far I get until I get stuck, but I'm really glad I picked this up again.

You don't get why they've been revived, yet you're posting in them to prolong their revived life? You realize that when you post in a topic, it revives it further - there may have been a topic above it until you posted. Also: is it necessary? I hardly think that's a qualifier. Most things we do for pleasure, or knowledge seeking, etc, most of those aren't necessary. All that's really necessary is that we breathe, eat, sleep, and have a shelter from the cold, and that some of us procreate. Anything else is basically unnecessary - beyond survival - so hints an invalid point.

To ask, "Seriously?" Is grammatically incorrect. A more favorable alternative might be to ask, "Are you serious?" This better conveys your point and employs a proper sentence structure. In addition, asking if I'm serious is quite pointless, as: (A) yes, I seriously posted this, and (B) it was a legitimate question. I hope I answered your rather odd question.

Re: Seeking Programmers To Assist with Second Life viewer

I have been on there before, and everyone was cool and really willing to help out. The thing is though, it feels weird for me to go on SL and basically have worse of a disability in there than I do in real life. I couldn't really walk around, I had to teleport even in the same area. I couldn't read signs. I couldn't buy or pick out clothing because most of them have HUDs which the text viewer couldn't really work with. When I could, I had no idea what went together with each other. When I went to events, I would have to teleport around and pick a seat and hope that I didn't sit somewhere someone else was sitting. In an event which is supposed to be professional in nature, such as a presentation, lecture, etc. that is embarrassing.I basically had very little access to a world in which things were graphical and in 3D. And said access came in the form of text. Now, as an avid MUDder, I have no problem with text based things; however, it just felt like grasping at straws to try to make something work that just wasn't meant to.Now, I know there are a lot of people on there with different disabilities, and SL is liberating to them because they can see, and while in their real lives, they may be stuck in a wheelchair or a bed, in SL, they can be fully ambulatory and that's got to be amazing. I'm really not trying to take that away, or diminish the good that other people are getting out of it.For me though, imagine someone who is able to organize their clothing so they know what works together, dress themselves, bathe and take care of other personal hygiene, cook their own meals, walk around inside and out, orient to new environments, etcc. Then strip about 90% of that away and that's how I feel when I'm in SL and it's just not a good experience for me.

Yay, my two packs got added. They're "eschatos" and "sonic_advance_2001". I have not much experience in creating packs (as well as audio editing) so these packs were my first attempts.I'd like to point a little fix. If you download "sonic_advance_2001" pack, please edit the last bpm.txt MS entry, which is 870. Change it to 862, or 861. The Sonic Advance series do not have the music 100% quantized, so I tried to sync them as much as I could. The eschatos pack also has some sync problems, but tthey were my fault. I can provide a well-synced bpm.txt for eschatos if someone is having problems with that pack. Until someone points that, I'm going to upload the bpm.txt file.

Do you know any good helper programs? I played on a BBS a few years ago, the one Trenton Goldshark posted about as I recall, and it got overwhelming after a while. The multiplayer would be fun though. Reminds me of staarship traders/the Last Resort. Did you ever check that out? It was my first introduction to online games, courtesy of a super thoughtful and resourceful sighted elementary school friend who wanted to be inclusive. It was super simple but had a lot of staying power for me as a teenager, apparently hardcore players connected through telnet and had all sorts of macros set up like they do for most MUDS these days.

@12: yes, it's very deep. Wish there were more accessible games set in Glorantha, but so far only one developer has bothered to make Gloranthan games that are accessible with VoiceOver--can't speak for Talkback as I've never played the game on Android. For all the work that went into fleshing out this game world, there isn't nearly as much material written by other authors  as, say, the Forgotten Realms universe. The world is just begging for more people to play with and write about it.

Re: TriadCity via MUD clients

This sounds like a very neat concept.  The closest I've seen to this level of literary complexity would probably be Lost souls, and only in that it also contains a lot of subjective content.  Characters only know what their skills allow them to know and sensory traits affect how much of a location is perceivable.  their system is still very simplistic though, as your alignment has no affect on descriptions, neither does anything else really, for that matter.  I actually find the idea of a non-visual world fascinating from a literary perspective.  Not only are MUDs biased toward sight, but I feel like the English language is as well, and I've never seen anyone try to create a world where vision does not exist.  I've found plenty of short stories or books that feature blind protagonists, but they're still aware of what seeing is, what colors are, etc.  So what would happen if the concept of sight wasn't even a thing?  How would people live?  What kind of art would they produce?  etc. That See show on Apple Tv Plus tries to play with that concept, but it doesn't really delve very deep into the cultural/societal aspect of things and I lost interest midway through the second episode.I also love the concept of worlds within a universe.  A non-vision based human race is only the beginning.  How would you write up a world where whatever sentient race you played as could only feel their environment? or perhaps had all five senses, but another one, such as smell being their primary sense?Anyway, neat concept!  Unfortunately for me, I have finals week coming up this week and I have terrible self-control.

I also beat at least one game of every generation and the respective remakes up to the release of white 2. Then I started mudding and life got in the way, so I'm a little sad to say that I fell out of touch with pokemon series progression half way through white 2, because I always found every new generational release exciting. In spite of the controversy surrounding sword and shield, in a timeline where I never fell out of touch with the series, I still would buy and play at least one. The furthest i actually got back into playing pokemon again was with crystal scripts and various hacks, but those were games i beat before. I wanted to go back and finish white 2 since i still have it, but it feels a little weird to play on a 2ds xl with an internally cracked screen. Yeah I'm blind and dont need it, but I do want to be able to read the text now that I have a way to do so. I will say that I am extremely proud of my blaziken from emerald that I trained solo to win every beauty contest rank, which I then brought with me into platinum, soul silver, white, then I think white 2. I can say for sure that i soloed emerald, and played all 3 of the original games in that generation.

Re: any tips for playing pokemon

Does anyone have any idea why Pokemon games have inherently been fairly accessible outside of the whole, reading text thing? It's one of the only game series I can think of that has paid as much attention to it's sounds in the way that it has. For example: Health beeps when in the red, but in Gen 3 they improved that even more by lowering the pitch of the cry when at half health. Obviously I can understand most Pokemon having their own cry for personality sake, but it's still cool. Doors and walls make noises and text makes noise too. In Gen 4 (can't speak for Diamond Pearl or Platinum though,) terrain noises become a thing. You get the idea.@jayde:Yeah I don't really like what they did in HGSS with the music either. I know you used to be able to get remade version of the old chiptunes from within the game, but don't think that's a thing you can do anymore because that service was shut down a long time ago. I love what they did in Black and White with the battle music at low health, kinda wish they'd bring that back. Though I'm not complaining about the newer system where it only beeps 4 times, either. Can't speak much further for anything past Gen 5 though, don't have a 3DS and not really planning on it. What I watched from Oras was pretty cool, I watched some sun and moon stuff and thought it was neat that they were finally! Trying new ideas. I know next to nothing about the newer games past that point though.

@Phoenix: 4gb of ram, and that old cpu? Yeah you're gonna need a better system sooner or later, newer games ned more compute power. Find a wholesale supplier that sells refurbs, you'd be surprised how many highly regarded machines you can find for relatively cheaper prices compared to msrp (your milage may vary if you aren't in the U.S. and surrounding countries, though). My system has specs as follows, not saying you need these exact specs to run, but I'd at least upgrade your cpu to this product line.4.1ghz intel core i7, hyperthreading splits the already 6core cpu16gb (2x8) of ddr4 ramnvidia geforce gtx1650Windows 10 Pro 64bitI'd recommend 8gb at a bare minimum, and at least a quad core cpu. BEing as my machine is not consumer-grade by any means you are going to survive without a 4.1ghz cpu, but a 2.7ghz that can turboboost is what most high-end consumer machines have nowadays. Now then. Heard Liam stream this game earlier and am definitely liking it. Looks like I need to adjust my trackpad sensitivity a bit since we are having problems moving through the menu, but I have my sensitivity set to low and my cursor speed set to 44%. If it turns out I need to get an actual mouse I can pick one up for next to nothing. You definitely don't need to invest a lot of money in a good mouse the way you do a trusted mechanical keyboard, you just need one that works and is comfortable to grip, bonus points if it's wireless.

EternityStudioSpoilersOnce you get the laser protection, you need to get to the cannon's left side and shoot yourself in that direction. Then do the same thing again with the next cannon. I can't remember if there's another one after that, but you'll know you're on the right path when you fly past a bunch of stuff and land in front of the door where the huge gauntlet of lasers is. Then it's just a matter of going left onto the conveyor belt, and it'll carry you through the rest. Just save before picking up the protection in case it runs out too soon, so you can try again.

When you find the laser protection item, save. Take exactly two steps up from where you obtain the laser protector, go right, and press enter on that cannon to get blasted west. You'll find the cannon from which you got blasted into the area with the laser item to your west a bit. Go to its west side, and get blasted west again. Wait a sec as it takes you back near that door from which you entered the area, and go through it. Go west now onto the conveyer belt with the lasers on it and wait a bit. Hope your laser protection time is enough to get through. If you want me to record myself doing it then I can, but I hope these instructions will do.
