Steam problem

Hi,I know, I'm probably the umteenth person to open this kind of topic on here, but everything I found in the forum didn't help. So, I have steam installed, have the -no-dwrite switch set in the propperties, also my login details.Steam doesn't start with windows, I start it manually, and it logs me in just fine.  But despite I did everything seemingly correctly, my NVDA won't read anything in steam for me. OCR on it works, but when I for example press shift+f10 on the steam icon in the info bar to get to settings or something, I get just nothing.I even reinstalled the whole thing, but no luck. I'm really frustrated right now and any help with this would be great.ThanksTikki

Re: Blind Quest: The Enchanted Castle is available now!

@max_depaA lot of games releases update patches, where the full version is required to make anything out of the patch. Other games have a build-in updater, where it automatically downloads the update through the game itself. So I still don't get why we have to "request" the updates by submitting our email address. Spam filters are getting more and more agressive, so people might not receive those emails. The game does not even notify you about new updates as far as I know.

I have a Windows 7 laptop here that needs to be upgraded to Windows 10, but I've been very afraid to try upgrading because it is currently the only windows machine I have and I don't want to accidentally do something to it that would keep me from being able to use it. Hi Guys,I have a question here. I have been hearing about this Math ML and was wondering how to get it to work. I have tried using it with NVDA, but for some reason I can't get it to do anything at all. I am currently working with my daughter on a Math unit that involves fractions and, because of the way her curriculum was written, the screen reader simply will not read the fractions in most cases. It, for lack of a better term, spa over them as if they aren't even there. Does anyone know of something that I can try? I don't honestly know who is getting more frustrated here, my daughter or me.Thanks for any help you can provide.

Out of curiosity, how do you use the OCR feature on Windows Ten. I've been trying to figure that out as it might help with some other things we're trying to do, but I was never sure on what I needed to do in order to use it. Is there a specific key stroke you have to use? Will it work with NVDA? I only ask because that's what we're using here as far as Windows is concerned. Any information on that would be great. General tips for the best OCR results in games

Hey everyone. So this is going out to the video gamers and those who  wish to become those in the future. We all possibly use the windows 10 OCR if possible to look what's on the screen ´so we can play games. for some games like marvel VS Capcom infinits, street fighter V and soul calibur vi this is working out pritty well and there are no bigger problems. With games like killer instinct, injustice 2 and parts of MKx, OCR sometimes can't display any inteligable text on the screen and you are mostly left guessing what it just detected. So, I was just wondering if there are a general set of graphics options that would help OCR in certain games. I heard that someone said to use a gray filter for killer instinct because this would work better with the shadow lords mode, but I don't know how true this was or if I even got this right. So, are there any tips you guys have for improoving the OCR results?Greetings Moritz.

All I'll say is be careful about letting anyone connect to the server. I thought this could work, but eventually had to resort to user accounts to cut down on the amount of childish behavior, spam, and other crap that was going on. Now it's a much more pleasant experience. People can't come back from a ban by changing IP addresses. If you don't have valid user credentials, you're simply not getting in.The only thing I want now is encryption for the server. It's 2020, so why the hell is the server distributed with absolutely no way to encrypt data?

Re: Unity working in earnest on making their editor accessible

@Soren, you literally cannot make an API that every screen reader will use and make available to games. It is not possible. You can't have VO gestures in games because VO exposes no APIs of its own that make this possible. To do that VO would need to expose an API, and the same would need to be done on Android, Mac, Windows, Linux, etc. Its not practical. If you truly are a coder you would be able to evaluate the practicality of ideas and realize that this is not possible. It just won't be unless all the developers who make accessibility APIs collaborate on a single, universal API. I don't see that happening any time soon. Plus, its entirely irrelevant to this discussion.

2020-02-12 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : daigonite via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Blindness and Schizophrenia

@11 - if she was able to see color then it probably doesn't count. Light perception maybe. And yes, schizophrenia is a range of symptoms. I think the other subtypes may just be underdiagnosed in blind people, I don't understand for example how paranoid schizophrenia has no pathway.Daigonite, I hear what you're saying, but I'm not 100% convinced. You seem to be tending toward nurture over nature (i.e., bad thoughts and bad social situations make the brain screw with chemical makeup and so the disease is diagnosed inside out). I'm not saying you're flat wrong, but I don't think you're dead right either. Not really. In fact, I acknowledge readily the material conditions (nature) of where these issues arise. However, I interpret what these material conditions mean. I don't believe in the essentialist idea that your brain starts out as a sort of "road map that develops". Your brain is a dynamic piece of hardware that is unpredictable - and this interpretation of "nature" is what I take objection to.I think there are still very good arguments on both sides.haha no. sorry but noI mean, people who seem relatively well-adjusted can suddenly and almost inextricably end up in psychosis, so why would that be?no offense but do you talk to people who have psychosis? The reason why this happens is because people are not going to tell people that they have serious psychosis unless they literally can't help themselves. Some people are naive and don't realize how they sound psychotic so people give them help earlier. Many very creative people struggle with delusional thinking, they're just able to manage it. The idea of "function" hides disability like this.I've no doubt that what you say regarding socialization and isolation has a lot of truth to it though. This sort of thing absolutely can and does make mental health worse. I am not, and never was, trying to reduce schizophrenia to something to be medicated and forgotten about, or to be hand-waved. But I think we turn it into a purely social disease at our peril. I think, in truth, that the social and chemical aspects work hand in hand, and can feed off of each other (i.e., if you start having symptoms, you may self-isolate and make things worse). This doesn't actually address my criticism of chemicals though, that the observation of chemicals is post-hoc. I think you're reducing my argument somewhat - individuals are unique and predispose individuals to various types of interactions, making some people more vulnerable to schizophrenia than others - however, the vulnerability is caused by social effects which are what really should be addressed. Medications are simply a patch for these individual problems caused by this social issues. Like I have friends who are maxed out on drugs and are so vulnerable they have to very carefully take anything new or else they will literally start seeing demons - those drugs are gonna stop working one day. Yeah, real great fix. Read about felix guattari and schizo-analysis, while he never achieved his extremely ambitious goal, i think his work was in the right direction and has provided substantial work for disability related theory in general.

Yes, I know that people have uncovered just about everything. I don't care. To me, they represent the sort of RPG I enjoy. Good character development, a good story, engaging music even if it's only 16-bit, just the whole nine yards. Final Fantasy X gives a lot of that, albeit with more modern music and a slightly more linear story (which is about the only thing I really dislike about FFX, that you're sort of forced on rails through most of the game). So yeah, CT and FFVI are the ones I'm thinking of.

Re: Blindness and Schizophrenia

SirBadger, the issue is that we're talking about the totally blind here, people who have never experienced visual processing.Daigonite, I hear what you're saying, but I'm not 100% convinced. You seem to be tending toward nurture over nature (i.e., bad thoughts and bad social situations make the brain screw with chemical makeup and so the disease is diagnosed inside out). I'm not saying you're flat wrong, but I don't think you're dead right either. I think there are still very good arguments on both sides. I mean, people who seem relatively well-adjusted can suddenly and almost inextricably end up in psychosis, so why would that be? I've no doubt that what you say regarding socialization and isolation has a lot of truth to it though.

Hello. This is a limitation of Apple as far as I remember, that's how it was explained. However, you do not need to restart the app. Whenever the sounds stop playing, click on any item under the actions menu and the sounds should be restored. You should need to do this only once each time you log in.

First, what are you trying to do here? You seem to try and read from a file which is closed. Then you try and write a dictionary to it. Okay... but you must use serioilize() on it first. Then you try to... uh, desiriolize the unseriolized data? This is the strange part. Please go reread the language tutorial. Try and build simple games with it first. Don't get in over your head. Your code right now shows to me that you are trying to slap things together without understanding why and how to use the tools at your disposal.

And that may not be a bad thing, but every game is a huge amount of commitment. Just bear that in mind.If by Detroit you mean Detroit: Become Human, I love that game. There are some scenes that I found pretty upsetting, but it was a good thing in general. If Final Fantasy x is like a metal album, then Final Fantasy X-2 is kind of like a bubblegum-pop sequel with a couple of dark tracks on it. It's not a terrible game, but it's definitely got a more techno-oriented OST, bouncier/more pleasing aesthetic, and I would generally say that while it isn't terrible, it's probably not worth putting on the short list. FFX is one of my personal favourite games of all time though, and I would just about kill to play it unassisted or with minimal assistance, making all the choices at least. Ditto some much, much older games, but that's not what we're on about here.

Re: SoundPool question

That included will not really answer his question. It is designed to be used in an online game, not a simple map. To answer your question, you must use the update sound method. You will only update the listener if the listener coordinates change, such as when the player moves. You will not use the listener if the player is stationary, as the coordinates for it will always stay the same.  Keep in mind, you will only call the update sound method when the coordinates of your object change.  You should not, for example, stick a call in the loop somewhere where it will be constantly used, as your enemy will only move once every quarter of a second or so.  Sticking it in a place where it is constantly being fired will eventually cause your game to become slow and clunky as you add more enemies to the map, remember, every time we look through the enemies we call their update sound function. To clarify, you should not do so.  Only call the update functions when necessary.

Flame, if I do Kingdom Hearts, the plan was to pick up "The Story so Far" to go through the series.   I do not own it so I will pick it up at some point.  What are your thoughts on that? Looks like Conker Live & Reloaded isn't on Steam / PS4 to my knowledge, was that a good one?  Skyrim, one of my favorites.  I would love to do a playthrough of that game.  Any interest in that?  Dragon Age, finished the first one.  Another great game, another great contender especially because of the choices we can make together. Dragon Quest 11.  It's phenomenal and I would love to go through it.  I'm at about chapter 3 or so, and wouldn't mind starting over at all.  It's really, really good.Baldur's Gate 2 Enhanced Edition would be the next one after we all finish going through Baldur's Gate (which may be a long time)  I like the thriller games too, in regards to Resident Evil.  I have the remake on PS4, could be an option.  Remember the older ones?  I played the first 2 when they came out I believe. Final Fantasy X I finished , never played X2.  Is that one any good?  I started with FF7 (one of those guys), played through 8, 9, 10, and 15.  Someone recommended FF12 which I have still in the wrapper, so it's been a toss up between that and FF15.  My intentions have been to go through games that I haven't played yet to keep it more fresh.  However, 15 was so great in my opinion that it could still be fresh.  Once I get some time one of these evenings, I'm planning to try out both to see which works better for the narration. At this point, the way I'm hoping to go about this is to record an episode or 2 of some of the games on these lists.  Then put them out there, and then see which ones get the best reception so we can all move forward with the ones we think are best.

Re: I'm leaving the audiogames.net comunity in 5 or so days.

Funnily enough, I used to be pretty good at the 2d Mortal Kombat games. My real go-to was Killer Instinct Gold, but even in games like MK4 or MK Trilogy, I routinely beat the tar out of most of my sighted friends, even some of them who were good at the game. Now, I'm sure if I'd ever been in an elite level tournament I would've gotten smoked, but I've read FAQs for the newer MK games and stuff, and have passingly wondered if they're worthwhile, because the complexity has drastically shot up, and if that's accessible, I might be all over that. It's why I had a brief interest in Killer Instinct again when I heard that it was a lot more accessible than I realized at first.Simba, I apologize for the misunderstanding then. To me, "I'm done being gentle" just means what it says. It's not meant so much as a threat, more as a warning that I am not just going to keep doing the same thing over and over. I was annoyed, and I don't take back what I said, but in the context it was delivered in, I can sort of, if I stretch a bit, see where you're coming from. Either way, I accept the apology. We're cool. Don't worry about it.Accman, I largely agree with you. I'd wager that most of us have broken piracy law at least once, and I personally don't have a huge moral problem with this under some circumstances. Totally agreed @Accan. Take phishing scams as an example. I always feel that if a data breach occurs at a firm, rather than covering it up the firm needs to perform a full investigation. If it is discovered someone clicked on a phishing scam, fire'em on the spot. It's obvious they don' need the monthly paychecks since that Nigerian Prince's moneygram/Western Union payment is waiting for them, right? Right? Lol.

Re: I'm leaving the audiogames.net comunity in 5 or so days.

I've been following this whole thing, and have a couple of thoughts to throw into the mix here. The first thought I wish to express here is in the form of a question. How many of you out there have ever copied something from the radio and kept it for your own use or shared it with a close friend or family member? How many have ever recorded content from the TV using a VCR and/or DVR and either kept it for your own use or shared it with friends and/or family? In the eyes of the law, this is pirating--whether or not it's being sold it is still considered pirating. So, we've all done this to some extent. I have no problems with those who want to share things freely. Where I draw the line is when that same content is being sold for profit by the one sharing it. I know people who have done that, and that act is what I truly call pirating. Pirates usually would go after things with a hope of profiting financially out of them. Sharing something freely without any thought of financial profit is certainly no the act of a pirate.Secondly, an this links with the question I had, is to ay that everyone, no matter who you are, is responsible for what they do with information shared or what you don't do with it. If you want to click on a link, then you're responsible for having done so and for whatever happens as a result of clicking on it. If you click it and it turns out to be a virus, then, while that's unfortunate, you chose to click on it and no one else made that decision for you. I can't believe that individualizing responsibility is such a foreign concept in today's society. Please understand that this is not directed at anyone specifically as I have no problems with anyone here. This is just me giving us all, including myself, something to think about. If you have anything to reply on this thought, then I am open to hearing it. if you have something particularly harsh in mind, then please be responsible and don't post it here, but contact me privately. Whether you even would hear back from me in that case will depend on how said message was delivered. If I receive messages that are fraud with insults and profanity, then you can bet your last dollar that you won't hear back from me.Now, to the mods. You guys are doing a great job, and I do understand why you're doing things the way you've chosen and even appreciate it. I have never been a mod myself, but I can certainly appreciate what goes into it from what I've heard.People, if someone mentions something that you might want access to, and I mean in the form of mentioning it and not sharing a link to it, if you want a link then just email the person for it. That's all you have to do. this way, the link doesn't have to be posted here and we can avoid unpleasantness like this from this time onward. I've stated my thoughts on this. What you do with them is entirely up to you. Sorry about the lengthy post.

Re: Blindness and Schizophrenia

So an update on looking into this. The second article linked is actually really helpful and it helps provide an outline for why people seem to believe that somehow blindness "prevents" schizophrenia (spoiler, it might help a little but not much). So lets get out of the way the really dumb talking points.  BTW when I say "blind people" its a shorthand for people born blind.1. They talk about how audio hallucinations are rarer in blind people because they have more acute hearing. Now, I'm still not convinced that auditory hallucinations don't occur in blind people, but doesn't it make sense that the sense that's very much used for navigating the world, especially far away things? People born blind can mostly only sense far away things with their sense of sound. So, since its so heavily in tune with the outside world, its of course going to be less likely to develop hallucinations. This is seen in traditional schizophrenia as well - visual hallucinations are actually very rare and an indication of severe illness. If there are blind schizophrenic people, they are probably extremely severely schizophrenic by the time that we actually can observe it2. They suggested blind people have superior language processing. This may be true but their methods completely fail to take into account how blindness impacts language development. The "object" in the person's head that comes from hearing a word is actually different in a blind person than a sighted person - something that's most obvious when talking about things that blind people dont experience, such as color or light.3. There's this really funny part where they basically suggest blind people have stronger sense of smell (which may be true i guess) and that not smelling your mom growing up can trigger schizophrenia (lol rip gay dads)There was interesting grain of protection blindness does actually seem to offer against schizophrenia development though. People born blind are forced to gain relativistic understanding as opposed to a combined world view, as what vision presents. This has subtle ways on how we process information in general. Sighted people actually use relativistic thinking too, just not as frequently. Anyways, this prevents ideas from getting as "firmly locked in place" because blind people build larger navigational understanding from smaller pieces. Now to me, this suggests to me something incredible - that blind people present schizophrenia in a way that is literally invisible to psychiatric understanding. That is to say, schizophrenia is really "sighted schizophrenia". Furthermore, this suggests that blind people have a unique mental topology that has been completely neglected up to this point. AKA, blind people have unique forms of mental suffering that really can't be shoved into sighted models. It's unbelievably stupid honestly its like these people have never talked to an actual blind person while doing all this research. Literally losing my mind right now. I need to stress that the solution isn't "to accommodate blind people", it's to recognize that the psychiatric system is broken because it doesn't recognize that blind people are literally different from sighted people.

Re: Unity working in earnest on making their editor accessible

Lol. I'm on Android and am having 0 problems with the Unity screen reader plugin. Not sure if this is something to do with IOS or not. Either way, a few ms of lag isn't going to kill you, it's not like any of these games require mission-critical speech events yet anyway. That being said, Feer does in terms of its sound environment, but there is no time-sensitive speech. But as Ian has said, the code editor accessibility has literally nothing to do with the games themselves.

Re: I'm leaving the audiogames.net comunity in 5 or so days.

@Simba: No such article exists. Also, searches for Blind Mice Megamall (the commercial business, not the movie vault), lead to tons and tons of search results containing the website. While they are incorporated, there isn't much detail pertaining to business registration. I really do wonder, as is usually the case with big tech, if oversite is actually that inept, because this is so easily unhidden it isn't even funny. They are clearly doing this while looking the other way, despite the fact that steraming services now exist to provide this content. The international argument does not work eitherfor them , as Blind Mice more or less expects U.S. customers will be buying their products. Am I automatically labeling them as an unethical/shady business? No, not necessarily. But the fact that they are oing this so out in the open (at leats in the assistive tech circles) leads me to think that there may be some legal exception that they have not told us about, and levaing us in the dark certainly isn't the right thing to do either. As far as this forum is concerned, though, it doesn't matter. The fact this shit can't be posted on the forum does not inconvenience me enough to skate around the rules, much less rail against it.

Re: Warning about the newest NVDA update

Also, I can confirm that the Eloquence within a registered copy of Kurzweil1000, one which contains no drm, was sapi-compliant and not tied specifically to the application, is usable in the IBM driver. To remain fully legal, you are going to need to buy your own copy ot Kurzweil1000. Either that, or contact Code Factory and ask them to remove the non-transparent persistent license checks that may impact people with skay internet.

Re: Warning about the newest NVDA update

The author of the Unspoken 3d sounds addon was Bryan Smart and Austin Hix. IT was then forked by someone else (Mushirav I believe) to be an audio themes addon with the same underlying engine. It has since not been updated for NVDA 2019.3. I believe though that the speech refactoring and the new speech subsystem will enable the future implementation of earcons directly into NVDA, that can be handled and timed a lot more accurately than the addon.

Re: Retroarch is now accessible

Hi,well, I tried fullscreen mode, but still no text found when I try to use the AI. I really don't know what the problem might be.And another problem, in Wii games, my configured controler doesn't work for some reason. No matter what I press, the game doesn't react. But for GBA for example, it works fine.Any help with these problems would be great, I'm kind of stuck with this right now. Thanks in advance.

Re: Virtual phone providers with SMS capabilities?

Hi.Huh, I would go and download the satelite app and see if they support it in the cuntry that you live in, which ever one it might be.You basically get a satelite looking like 015678 xx. Calls are VOIP, so your internet flat is used. With the free contract you have 100 minutes of call time per month, upgrading it to a monthly recurring plan of 5 dollars a month gives you unlimited minutes of call time per month.greetings Moritz.

Hi.At Jack ok, I get your point, it wasn't really obvious that the article you quoted in 49 also contains information on how to get the movies from the mice, I thought it only was the statement on where the movies come from or how they finance themselves, so basically a, how we do things kind of article.Greetings Moritz.
