Re: Scriptable smart locks?
Having been a software engineer for a couple decades, I'm skeptical of *my own* ability to design a smart lock. You've focused lots on security, which is admirable. What about reliability? How will you communicate with your lock? If wifi, how will that
Re: a call to all vapers
Oh, forgot to mention the other fun thing about dry-herb. Assuming you don't burn the herb, you can reuse it. Empty your ground, pre-vaped weed into a sealable jar. Don't try to smoke it. It will burn your throat like a hot poker. You can reuse it to make
Re: a call to all vapers
@34 It's trolling. Best to just ignore it. Even allowing for it not being satyre, which I suspect it might be, this person isn't master of the universe or whatever anyway. So what they want or would do doesn't matter. If it is in fact serious, it's just someone
Re: a call to all vapers
@30/@31: Yes there are marijuana vapes. I prefer them to pipes/smoking for a whole bunch of reasons. They're a bit different, though, because you can opt for either dry-herb or concentrate. Concentrates are probably similar to e-cig vapes, though they also require
Re: I have worked at home and here is what i learned. What about you?
An off-topic reply to a post in the off-topic room? How meta. But I didn't realize we had such a large Austin contingent here. Audio gaming LAN party, anyone?

Re: Can a blind person build their own custom computer
At the risk of being accused of Clintonism, I guess it depends on what you mean by "build." I've definitely built a few custom PCs 15 years ago, so it was possible then. My current PC is a mini-ITX build the size of a large shoebox, so
Re: Anyone have any Amazon Prime/accessibility contacts?
Which player are you using? I've never managed to turn on AD via the web. I think it's hidden behind an unlabeled icon or something. It's a bit better everywhere else, except of course with The Expance.

Re: Anyone have any Amazon Prime/accessibility contacts?
Thanks, folks. I'd been poking around looking for a specific disability-related customer service form and coming up blank. Got a response, and a $5 Amazon credit, a few hours after submitting the report. And hopefully The Expance
Anyone have any Amazon Prime/accessibility contacts?
Long shot, but thought I'd ask. I've been enjoying The Expance on Amazon Prime video. It's some of the best sci-fi I've seen in a long time, and only gets better after season one. But, while it has audio description, it is more
Re: what you think is the best VPS provider
I'm on GitLab ATM. I think most of my issue is that I've used GitLab CI for years, I generally know how to make it do what I want, and it makes lots of sense to me. It'd probably be easier to just drop $14/month on a Windows CI runner I can
Re: what you think is the best VPS provider
OK, spent the last few days bashing my head against Appveyor trying to make it do what I want. At this point I think it's time for my own Windows VPS and a GitLab CI runner.Using RDP, how do I go from a freshly-provisioned VPS, to an accessible
Re: smart watch recomendations
Which Samsung watch did you get? I'm guessing it's Tizen-based? I've seen that Tizen has an accessibility API but wasn't sure how thorough it is. Then again, it probably doesn't have to be super comprehensive for a watch.

Re: what you think is the best VPS provider
Silly question, but as someone used to Linux and SSH, what is the Windows VPS equivalent?I need a Windows server for CI, and am thinking of picking up one of these $14 VPSs. Don't much care how fast/reliable it is, as long as it picks up jobs
Re: Xbox One for non-gaming: worth it?
Thanks! I'll probably pick up a Shield--looks like a great piece of tech.

Re: Xbox One for non-gaming: worth it?
@12 Nice, thanks, if you can confirm Prime accessibility for me then I'd appreciate it. I think the review said that the app explicitly stated that it was inaccessible on launch, so hopefully Amazon fixed that if they explicitly knew about it and
Re: Xbox One for non-gaming: worth it?
@10 Oh, the Stick loses the VoiceView setting? That's a bit suboptimal. Thanks, I'd not expected a bug like that from Amazon, who seem to be a bit more on top of things accessibility-wise.

Re: Xbox One for non-gaming: worth it?
@8 Cool, thanks. To be clear, I was surprised to read that Netflix was inaccessible on the Shield in a November 2018 review, precisely because it *has* been accessible on my phone/tablet since 2012. Granted, there have been issues, but the review I
Re: Xbox One for non-gaming: worth it?
Whew. Thanks, folks. I was so close to clicking that "Buy now with one click" button and spending part of my long weekend setting up my Xbox. I'll pass on the Apple TV for now. I'm an Android developer, and while I do want to take a stab at iOS one of
Xbox One for non-gaming: worth it?
Hey folks,Currently I use a Chromecast for my TV, but it's starting to annoy me mightily. It's first gen, and my phone is a bit old, so perhaps an upgrade to either or both would resolve these. Sometimes Netflix doesn't see the Chromecast at all, and I
Re: what you think is the best VPS provider
@9: @13 got it. CX51, 8 VCPUs. I was wrong about $30--it's actually about $34. I remember the invoice amount each month which is roughly EUR 30, and while I get a receipt from the bank, it has a more generic subject line and I don't associate it
Re: what you think is the best VPS provider
I've had pretty good results with Hetzner Cloud. The web panel has some accessibility issues, but their command line utility is on point. If you don't mind a German datacenter location, they're great, though they may have other European countries
Re: Graphiti Braille Display Now Available?
Finally got this short email reply from their sales department. TLDR: $15K USD, and apparently buying it involves signing an NDA. If the price is this high and NDAs are involved, my suspicion is that they're doing a small production run so they
Re: Graphiti Braille Display Now Available?
Reached out a few weeks back when I, too, noticed the change. Told them I was a maker with some disposable income and talent at these sorts of integrations. I've heard nothing. Maybe next time.

Re: Setting up Komplete Kontrol M32
Oh, I got it now. I've never used VST plugins before, and thought I needed to somehow record the keyboard's output, and that the app needed to be open for accessibility to work. Just set things up as a VST plugin, and now it all works--or at least, it
Re: Setting up Komplete Kontrol M32
Hey, made some pretty good progress. My previous VM issues went away when I switched from VirtualBox to KVM. With that done, I was able to enable accessibility on the M32, play it in Reaper, etc.But I'm having an annoying issue that I don't know how to
Re: Setting up Komplete Kontrol M32
Roughly how long does it take for Komplete Kontrol to scan the library on first run after a full installation?Getting some odd NVDA studdering. Granted, I'm running in a VM, but it's a beefy VM that doesn't have issues with VSCode, Visual Studio 2017,
Re: Setting up Komplete Kontrol M32
OK, never mind, I figured it out shortly after I posted. I maximized the window, navigated to the desktop, and OCR'd that. Nice feature, first time I really used it. Looks like pressing Enter on some text clicks it? Seems to be working that way--I just
Re: Setting up Komplete Kontrol M32
So I'm mainly a Linux/Chrome OS user who drops into Windows VMs for a few select development tasks. When you write "go up a level," what do you mean? I'm seeing all the controls in object nav, even the ones that aren't visible, so I get what you mean by
Setting up Komplete Kontrol M32
Hey folks,Picked one of these up recently and it arrives in a couple days. I'm reading up on how to set things up with Reaper, but the big challenge so far seems to be Native Access. While I don't yet have a keyboard and serial number, I've set up my Native
Re: braille me, low cost display now for sale
