Spartans...tolerant? Along with the prior disposal of children with disabilities or who weren't cut for combat, the spartans severely mistreated the non-combat cast of folk that lived under their territory. For teenagers, slaughtering and bullying these folks was part of your expected training. I forget the term for the people they tormented, the Helvetes?

Grifters gonna grift.https://www.businessinsider.com/donatio … bt-2020-11This article is based on that Election Fraud Commission fund Trump and the Republicans are calling on their supporters to fund. The fund is used to pay for the various litigations for the battleground states in trying to flip the states.  ...Or maybe not. On Trump's site, there's a link to donate for the fund. At the bottom, there's fine print that states that 60% of the fund will be used to retire general campaign debt. The remaining 40% will go to the RNC operational fund, which is used for such legal battles. Just 40%. Another donation page has 50% allocated for the same thing.yes, a supposed billionaire is grifting his supporters out of as much cash as possible before vanishing into the night. If trump was as rich as he claimed, he could pay off his own debts, like he claimed he would be doing during the 2016 election.I'm starting to believe this fuss about the Election vote fraud is Trump's last attempt to extract as much cash from the very people who support him. I doubt he's actually mounting a resurrection campaign for 2024. He's more likely going to milk as much money as possible, then turn around a few months later and brag on how he tricked millions of people and how stupid his supporters are. And that this makes him smart and a great business man. And he'll do it, those 70 million people failed to get him what he wants. And just as the many associates who worked for him now languishing in prison or with ruined careers, Trump will distance himself from those people and mock them.

Re: was this a bad idea?

As someone who tried cramming a few things at the same to to learn stuff, it does not work. You need to take things slow and let the concepts sit in your mind. One lesson that is thoroughly understood and practiced is better than 7 that are rushed through. Unless there's some super important needs to rapidly learn a language, like a job you want to get, it's better to take these things slow and take the time to practice. As a person born in a Spanish speaking family, I can say that I do not know the language what so ever to speak it. I can understand and read things fine in Spanish, and I can translate. but I can't compose sentences or speak it to a comfortable level. Lately I've just been utilizing a program to do 5 different activities on Spanish lessons a day and try to practice everyday. As well, I have been trying to talk with my parents more in Spanish to try to retain some stuff. but considering some of the words and sentence structure I want to use I have no knowledge of, it's a hilariously bumpy journey.it sounds like with these Spanish lessons, you're trying to check a box saying you did your massive load of knowledge for the day. That's the wrong approach to this as that's only good for committing stuff to short term memory, and not something you'll retain.

Any Visually Impaired Sales Force Administrators/Developer's?

So, I recently got a job offer somewhere within a trainee position to figure out on a best fit for the company I work with. One thing I noticed is that they did have a branch that utilized annd maintained Sales Force. Someone a while back on another forum mentioned that they were working towards their Sales Force Administrator certification while they were still looking for work. They were legally blind and did mention that there were only a few small things inaccessible with the program. My question is wondering if there are any others who have gotten their administrator and developer certifications? As well, any recommendations to give for suitable training materials for someone who'd be a true newbie to Sales Force in general? I want to show some initiative in already looking for a specific role within the place I'm going to work at, and want to keep most options open. I'll probably have way more details once I start work and speak to a manager/career supervisor about this for growth and advancement. But to prevent any possible worries about inaccessibility for training, I want to have that issue clamped down early.

Re: Corona Virus: is it the beginning of the end?

Eh, I'm darkly realizing how selfish people tend to be during this outbreak. It seems most people don't realize how much of a derp they are until they catch the virus themselves and get put through the ringer After that enlightening experience. Learning the virus does exist and hurts like a mother, then they start empathizing and doing what they can to prevent the spread of the disease and not catch it yet again. Bonus points if they manage to infect their entire household. and someone dies because 2% does not equal 0%. Unfortunately, this form of enforcement doesn't quite work out in the long run. You know, more people getting infected meaning free rides to new bodies before the individual in question is breathing through a tube and rolling fortitude and death saves. By the time one realizes they fudged up, its already too late as they did their part. And the sad part is that I doubt a virus with an even higher death rate would be something to motivate people to actually follow guidelines. We've politicized viral infections of all things (again), and the next virus to come our way will already be treated with dismissal. until...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zHNfzXSqLQ... I'm sorry, I could not resist. But seriously, this blunder has already put people's trust and confidence in medical officials to an all time low because doctors are trying to steal ur freedoms or whatever talking point is being used. Let's not pay attention to the infection with the 50% death rate. Half the population will still be alive and fake news. This is the true tragedy of Kovid 19. The next pandemic with an actually high death rate will be ignored until we're way past prevention. Heck, anti-terrorism units should probably start taking notes. I am pretty sure terrorist groups now see one way to strike the United States if they really wanted to have a high body count with minimal effort.

Re: weird issues with NVDA when starting up computer.

that's normal for an HD drive if you have NVDA startup on login. it's why I disabled that feature and just wait a bit before using the shortcut to startup NVDA. I do the same for my new laptop with an SSD drive, even if it logs in faster. My issue is the sudden clunkiness with spellchecking through the application key and closing microsoft Word causing severe lag all of a sudden. I usually have to restart NVDA after fully closing out Word because it acts dazed. Though, if I close a document with another document still running, it closes it fine. though, when I say lag, I mean about 5 seconds. but it's something that's recently developed.

A bump and update on things.* Checked Macafee. there was no devouring of the screenreader components itself. However, I'm not sure why it's functioning different from my other laptop on certain behaviors.*the accent thing was the voice it was using. Switching fixed it.*I'm not sure if the other laptop has the most up to date Screenreader. however, I don't have the latest install for 1909 update on that one. this laptop is fully updated, including the questionable "fixes" going on right now. maybe that had something to do with it? the issues began July 12, about the time I decided to update to the first windows update of the month.*microsoft Word still has a weird delay appearing on the faster laptop for about a second and a half. the slower laptop doesn't take that long and opens the list of suggestions. Minor, as i can just ignore the spelling errors until I hit the spellchecker and manual edits. it's only on word, spell recommendations on other edit fields work fine.*I sometimes keep hearing unknown when I close a program. Now, with my experience on the other laptop, sometimes I end up on the task tray or whatever for Malwarebytes. I'm guessing that when I drop out of a program, I'm ending up on whatever thing macafee says, and that's not readable.*i still don't have notifications reading automatically when they pop in. For all I know, that's maybe a NVDA setting I don't have.I might hit up the NVaccess mailing list and see if other issues are being reported like this. July has been a weird month for computers it seems, and all may stem from a bad series of Updates for Microsoft.

Re: NVDA Not Reading Accented Letters

Okay, more strange things are happening. Some sounds that NVDA uses that draw from the Windows Sound Scheme don't seem to be playing (I.e: Closing Mush Client, the pop up that asks if you want to save your output window doesn't ding). As well, system notification and sound pop ups that read on another laptop automatically don't with NVDA. Now, when I press application on a mispelled word in microsoft Word, the spell checker opens rather than having the options appear in the context menu. Did I miss something with MS word today? As well, after a bit of time running, when I try to alt tab mutiple times to bring up the tab menu, it won't read the rest of the applications being tabbed over. i have to ask. is it possible that an anti-virus might be the cause of this? unfortunately, i'm still stuck with the Macafee live Av that came with this laptop. So I can't easily check until tomorrow morning if it's quarantining a bunch of NVDA assets and blocking it from interacting with others. I know there's an overall hate for Macafee, though have other screenreader users encountered issues close to this using Macafee Live?the only reason I think an Av is the cause is from a painful experience with another Anti virus called Webroot. however, its affects at the time on NVDA were far more crippling. A lot more applications became unusable. usually the moment I restored items back to where they were, stuff began to work normal... until it struck again. Compared to that, Macafee hasn't borked my Screenreader fully yet, but seems to be doing it very slowly. this is assuming its the cause.Still hyper annoying though. Anyone can confirm if this experience is normal With MAcafee Live?

Whenever that was being read or open, NVDA would eventually stop and freeze. He had been finished with the document later on and hasn't seen the issue. When the document was opened again and he used the computer for a bit more. Poof. Another protected document was open and the same happened after a bit of time.Actually, i wonder why I hadn't thought of that considering I know he was reading something in PV. I've had a pain in the butt whenever stuff comes in PV to even more painful degrees. Frankly it's an improvement NVDA doesn't crash when opening the PV docs. I'm trying to figure out what might be resulting in this, and thought someone here might know what might be up before I go to the NVAccess list. Will yank up the HP model in a bit when he replies to a text. the only unwise thing he has on his computer is Macafe or whatever it is called. Now, my misadventures with some other virus and malware scanners used to ravage NVDA. I'll see if anything might contribute to the cause of the weird freezes. the rest of the computer works fine. At least it is not every 5 minutes. Just a random event every hour or two.

All the keys are at least there, evading some weird options to replace certain commands with laptop-specific keys while they get designated to the arrow keys and such. I just think I need to wrestle out the old habits I had with more full sized and larger laptops.   Also double checked with a store I might be purchasing from, and they actually do provide services like switching the media keys to what I'm more used to as part of a setup service they provide for free.

It's that time of the lifecycle for most modern (and short lived) technology. As the subject line indicates, I am thinking of getting a new laptop for multi-purpose use, with a budget of about $1500.   I kind of want to move away from common problems I had with my laptops, that being the harddrive constantly dying or malfunctioning. So an SDD drive might work out, which most laptops are now coming out with by default. I also want to avoid those annoying compact keyboards where every freaking key has a function option to perform common commands. Along with that, action keys/media keys that aren't reversed by default. (truely, hitting function and the function keys to do common keyboard commands would get annoying fast, and some options utilize the bios to change such functions rather than a keyboard shortcut).    So what's people recommendation for a laptop for the new decade?

There are people who go beyond sustenance for food to make art that can be eaten.   maybe baking and pastries are on the artistic end of things due to not exactly being necessary foods, but do provide a lot of options for experimenting with flavors and designs. I have a friend who makes cake sculptures for fun, along with other designable pastries like cookies and even tarts.

Meh, it's already happening. However, rather than the government or some mysterious unknown "they", it's just corporations and data companies using data collected tailored to your likes and interests, and using it as a lure to follow certain ideologies.   If we were going to take media as an indicator of the future, Shadowrun and Cyber punk themes of corporations owning your existence and actions is far more likely than the government firing mind Control rays into your head from radio towers. A lot of that research done in the CIA experiments for mind control was far too out there and cumbersome to do on a large enough scale. Corporations have already done a good job at essentially knowing everything about us, and have a far easier time controlling our likes and wants. And it's already having an affect on people today. All it takes is one popular social media platform or corporate entity to have long term malicious intentions. And the sad part is that we're happy to hand over our privacy and tools to control and track us.  Everyone's afraid the NSA busting into our conversations, while Facebook has free access to everything we say and think that people give willingly.

2020-05-29 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : Vazbol via Audiogames-reflector

Re: When I thought the blind community can't surprise me anymore

Frankly, I don't find everything listed in post 1 overall too odd. In fact, if there's one thing I criticize the blind community for the most is how fast they condemn others for certain actions. Showing a sign that they are trying to distance themselves from just interacting with that community, but making it evident that they are extremely green in interacting with society as an overall whole.    Weird actions generally fall under the perception of the viewer, and many cultures, racial groups, fandom groups, and geographical areas have their own weird things that some might find bizarre. I.e.  Rocking: This might be more a mental state problem than a blindness problem. And considering that going visually impaired, especially when once having sight, can be a traumatic and altering experience. I see this also manfesting in people who take an extremely long time to accept using a cane in public, usually after eating one too many metal poles to the face. As well, populations with disabilities tend to have multiple disabilities, and I've met my share of visually impared folk with other disabilities. As well, considering research is being done that recognizes that a lot more people in this world have variations of mental illnesses, especially autism and Aspergers, that I'm not surprised rocking and other behaviors are done by the visually impaired. Not helping that if one is completely blind and not paying attention, they will not realize they're doing it in front of someone.  Speaking like a Synth:  I see this, and raise you people speaking in Clingong in public. People emulate things they have a lot of experience with or enjoy. I see a lot of people speaking and talking a lot like characters from their favorite books, shows and movies. Heck, the sighted community have conventions where these people converge to do this for many days straight. Now, considering many people with visual impairments use text to speech software for phones, computers and media players, the one thing they come into contact with are speech synths. And there are entire communities that help develop and create new ones. So, amongst blind friends, this might be something that come up, just like how Star Treck fans may speak in Clingong if into that faction, or another group might emulate the speech patterns from a favorite abridged series. Check the Youtube comments on a lot of videos of such series, and see this in action at least in text. I think the Speech synth talking can be classified as enjoying a blindness related meme.    ...Also there's now a growing group of sighted folk now emulating hilariously the same vocal oddities synths have due to a growing popularity of Ask reddit videos that usually have Microsoft Dave and friends reading out reddit threads. Hilarity occurs with a combination of profanity filters and tTS screw ups like making no come out as number.   Poking Self in Eye:  This one is understandable, and hard to break for people. Not just with eyes, but anyone who's lost function of a body part. Spend time with an amputee, and notice their hands sometime go to where a limb used to be. Or where a non-functioning arm lays limply to their side. It seems liek an instinctual thing to do for people when the body doesn't know the status of itself. Though possible to break out of if brought up, just like someone who picks their nose.   the visually impaired community seems to be prone to quickly condemning others for actions and habits that are odd, ignoring the myriad of freakishly weird habits, fettishes and customs of the entire world. Though, not surprised either. minority communities seem to condemn their own members far harsher than any other group, as sort of a method of representation in society. Kind of dumb though, since humans are aready prone to stereotyping, and such things will be constant even if 99% of the group don't do said actions anymore. People do not generally interact with minorities in a constant bases, and all they have to go by are long living or long outdated stereotypes.  I.e:  Insert thousandth time Jews are considered greedy money-focused paracites, or that every single Latino male is a rapist murderer in the making.    To the original concern of that ad. If the person buys something, and the other party agrees to sell it, and no one is harmed in the process, what's wrong with that? Re: Why Trump is afraid of china?

Just throwing this tidbit here:     In human rights, even one single violation of a person's right to lie or exist by a government is just as severe as millions. Trying to downplay China's past by saying that Japan and Germany did worse things doesn't excuse the fact it still murdered thousands of protestors with military arms. That's just like saying someone who murdered 5 people isn't a horrible person because he didn't kill millions like Stalin. He still killed people and that obviously should be criticized and punished. This is applying the same logic when you defend China's actions like that. It's not as bad as those other countries who murdered millions of people, but a lot of other countries can boast that.  Anyway, agendic policies without consulting experts or human lives was China's form of epic failures. Shall we not forget the Great Leap Forward and the Sparrow massacre. One quite literally worked peasants to death to try to accelerate China's industrial capabilities. The other one shows how well China handles certain problems by inflicting a famine among its people because of that specific policy to remove Sparrows, which were hunters of another certain peast. China seems to moving back to a policy of one person holding way too much power, and epic failures like this can occur again if they are too self aggrandizing and don't consult others for policy.  The original question. One of the main reason that Trump, and nearly every other power and head of state in the past fears China is that China has an economic strangelhold on various industries. China is a heavy exporter of things, while the things it can import it can get from other places. As an example, when Trump tried for his tradewar early on and put up terriffs, the U.S was holy dependant on stuff coming out of China. China, who imported a few things form the U.S like SOybeans, could just go to another country to import such things, and screw over companies who relied on that market in the U.S.  China also has a strong control over the value of their currency, valuing and devaluing the currency to meet certian needs. The currency can be shifted to devalue the currency so that a Chinese product is cheaper than American made ones, devalue the impact of trade tariffs on them, or get the upperhand on buying U.S debt.   TL-Dr:  We fear China because China has way too much control over it's own currency and the currency of other countries at times.

Re: What Gives, YouTube

Huh, I keep seeing someone muttering commies, but this is literally a capitalism gone horribly wrong problem. And someone already peeped out how this happened. google virtually has no competition at this moment for their online video content creation field. All other competition is still fledgling and fighting an uphill battle against the fat slob upon the throne. No competition lasted against google here, Google got on the top and has a hostage user base who have tried going off to other places, and those places not being as good. This stuff happens unfortunately when the system doesn't regulate a situation like this, nor competition in the field is adept enough to survive. It literally is a crappy situation for others wanting to start something up to kick Google in the face, the users who have to deal with shit rules and decision, and for content creators who have to find work arounds to make a living.    Personally, between Youtube, Stadia, google +  and a bunch of other horrific ideas, I'm really doubting the philosophy and competency of that company. Luckily, it hasn't hit monopoly territory yet, and there's new players on the field ready to give Google a run for its money, and this is good. This is things naturally trying to adjust to normal, and people just having enough with a lone company making the rules and being lame.

The United State's health care system cannot support a concurrent caseload heading over a million if this gets out of hand. And people need hospitals for way mor than just Kovid 19. The last thing we need is to reach a situation where hospitals are trying to determine what people to turn away and let die.    Also yes, the fact we reached lockdown mode is a bit of a condemnation of the current president, who is given special powers to invoke action without Congress' approval in this situation. That being awful. In fact, despite a lot of powers being laid at his feet, he's mostly focusing on pointing his finger at governors, and governmental agencies for failing to stop the deaths, despite lacking his vastly expanded authority.   ...There's a reason why the board of directors literally gave Trump an executive position with little or no power outside of branding in his own company at one point. Non-sense, a program like that does exist.    It's called anything that manages stocks or trades for you in real time and invests/moves around cash to maximize profits. Unfortunately, most of these programs aren't open source, and tend to involve you to already have a lot of money to invest for this thing to help you manage.  So something rich people/business utilize. However, knowledge in stocks and financial trading is needed to make sense of everything... the computer can't do "everything" for you.  now, if you are trying to get a lot of money from very little through the computer, good luck with that. Something like that does not exist. A few of the things that were mentioned on this forum, like that Honey thing, require an immense amount of browsing/work just to get a $20 payout for things. And it might be a scam...not entirely sure, never used the program. However, making money from quite literally nothing is only the domain of the rich and wealthy, as it requires capital to invest. So technically not made from nothing, but money that a computer optimizes without the person doing any work on their own does seem like making money from nothing...

I believe the virus is as bad as people are claiming. I actually had a cousin that didn't take the initial warnings while In New York seriously. They spent a lot of their time outside and ignoring the manditory lockdown orders. They wanted to live their lives with their friends, who they were separated from and gathered in a large group.  Now, that cousin and about 90% of his initial family have been cremated. And he was the only one to head out and got yelled at by his family for doing that. And he took out his parents, one grandparent and one of his siblings for living his life. that's not counting who else not in our family he had contact with. We also had another incident involving a wedding where a ton of people got violently ill. We lost two people from that event as well. Right now, it seems a nearby family has their second floor serving as a makeshift resting area as a bunch of people contracted kovid 19.    What all of these incidents have in common? All it takes is one or two people to roam about infected to start the 1d50 rolls all around, and one's are something that can come up. And those are the lucky ones not rolling a 1d5 for critical existance failures. When you increase the number of people that can get exposed to Kovid 19, you increase the unfortunate number of people gets wiped out. And as someone mentioned, this causes problems for hospitals getting swamped, and being unable to take in other medical cases lethal to existance, illness prevention and other necessary services.   meh, just like a good number of people in my family, people won't learn that this should be taken seriously until the virus reaches a level its indirectly affecting people who aren't sick of the virus. When hospitals get full, friends no longer being around, and funeral invites litter one's inbox. When waits to get into a hospital can extend to weeks, and when one finally gets sick and begin to worry that they could be the next add-on to the statistical data of Kovid 19 deaths. When it's far too late to do much other than damage control, then we'll take it seriously. Or not, it starting to seems just like many things in this country, epedemic preventio has became a political struggle with people doggedly taking a side to the very end.  Also, it's possible to have viral prevention and live one's life properly. Unfortunately, we missed the mark on starting the preventative measures early enough to severely batter back the spread. Other nations who took up arms early have managed to get to a level where they can return to work and socialize.

Re: Covid Fearers, Please Read

It's a misconception to say that money taken from the rich to the government takes away from donations to charities that do good. What the rich think the world needs, and what the average person thinks they need are two vastly different perceptions. However, I cannot fault anyone in that position to giving to a cause they feel needs strong support, and surely these charities appreciate the assistance. As well, non-profits who reach out to foundations for grants enjoy the support these foundations give and develop strong relationships that have done a lot of good. However, should it really be the decision of one small collective of people or board to decide what issue gets funded and how society is shaped? People complain that they're afraid of government fully taking over their lives, but freely allow the upper class to shape their existence as they please and do what they want with their existences, views and beliefs. Reach out to these rich families to throw scraps of their wealth to one's direction if it fits their views of the world, and realize how many do not. ...Awkward that I say this as I used to do grant writing for non-profit clients, but it's a perspective one develops when in the field. At the moment, we just need to navigate the current system to get projects funded until things change, and work is still done to improve things, but far slower than if the number of grants from government were greater than from foundations.   As well, a good portion of money doesn't go to the type of charities you think. There are charities in cities that focus on arts development and community development. As well as donations to schools. The part I omitted here are that these development projects are in the same rich cities and communities these individuals live in. So an endowment of hundreds of thousands of dollars going to a prestigious university, the construction of a new museum in the elite quarter of a city, or buying a new set of laptops for an expensive high school who still has last year's models functioning. Essentially the rich giving to the rich, and wealth being retained in the limited upper brackets of society.   but again, it's government that's the dangerous force wanting to control our lives and turn us into drones while keeping all our monies. It's not like the United States hasn't had a history of the 1% attempting to usurp the Federal government, install a puppet president and make it impossible for anyone else to reach the American dream as an autocracy is formed. And that a fatal flu of their chosen president stopped their plans and launched the largest anti-trust suit to shatter their stranglehold on various industries.., allowing for small businesses to break into these fields and help shape the country away from the singular views of a few wealthy business owners     ...The late 1800's and early 1900's were a blast now that I think of it. In the sense of observing how things worked and failed. And then depressing when you realize people are wanting to revert back to such a time government and regulation wise.

the spanish Flu honestly should be a great case study on why we should be sheltering ourselves. As someone mentioned, governments actually tried to hide the fact there was a pandemic that was so deadly. Especially since there was already a great war wrapping up that killed millions of people. therefore, options to try to limit the spread of the Spanish Flu were minimal, and it essentially had its way with the population until someone raised the alarm about it.  here, the same post is trying to do the same thing, downplay the danger this virus can cause for people who fall under the vulnerability populations, or who roll a 1 out of a d50 with the 2% chance of death.    Honestly, for most people, this isn't a virus that is too dangerous. It's only a threat to young people, old people, people with auto-immune diseases, and issues with immune systems in general. however, may I be the first person to tell you that if this is your outlook on things, please go fuck yourself. Some of the language I've seen from people about letting those people sacriice themselves to allow corporate fat cats to keep the money flowing and not dipping into their savings is just disgusting. There are people with legitimate fears of catching this virus, which will spell either a death sentence or severe complications once they recover.   Also, the reason Kovid 19 hasn't slaughterred more people is because we're taking steps not to let a virus ravage us. Let's think about this. The flu, only having a 0.2% death rate results in 200k+ deaths, even with vaccines. This is in a non-quantine senario. Now, what would happen if something with 10 times the death rate, and no vaccine were to be in the same environment?    Just goes to show that the scientific method and critical thinking courses should be stressed a lot harder to make people consider every aspect of statistical data coming in. Of course Kovid has less deaths right now. kovid doesn't have the same free reign as the flu right now.

So, based on two posts from the last bunch on this page. Assuming the numbers are right... The U.S has many more cases and deaths compared to a country with 3-5 times the population, and a weaker economic backbone. And despite the garbage job we're doing, we want to go back to work and let the virus have a grander time with our bodies...   not to use the dead and sick against anyone, but the campaign attack ads (assuming we all live) are going to be vicious. Apparently a strong economy and military doesn't really help us against a Health crisis. Makes that attempt to cut funding for health care sector months back seem even worse of an idea in hind sight.   Hopefully, these numbers don't spike up yet again for any country. This is already ridiculous.

Re: Corona Virus: is it the beginning of the end?

This is the government. Politicians and other agencies tend to spend money on pointless stuff all the time. That's actually by design. Great for preventing hostile powers from quickly taking over a country, crap for dealing with an emergency.    Anyway, I think this entire pandemic is enlightneing on highlighting the various vulnerabilities country governments have in an entirely disruptive event. Also, which countries would get ruined in a deadlier pandemic. Considering how freaking suicidal Americans have been just for the social media memes, I'm pretty sure a more infectious virus with a higher death rate would be quite destructive to this country with the current response. Compare this to other countries with a far more comprehensive pandemic response plan. Some countries sitll have their internal economies and socail life chugging like normal, with a majority of Covid cases isolated and treated. Whether that be an extensive online tracking program, investigative departments using farensic tactics to track down people that may of been infected by a covid victim for isolation and early treatment, etc.     ...In short, a lot of countries are making The U.S look bad. I know there's talk that this may of been some man made attack, but that's thinking too small. I think what's more worrying that groups might be observing the weaknesses of countries in responding to a biological attack. Hitting some places like South korea and the like would probably be useless, but considering the slow governmental and social response to a normal disease in the U.S... right. Screw nukes. let's start the bioweapons division up again. We're already confused why the current president did not initiate the pandemic response plans developed during the bush Administration. Especially since he claims he knew about the virus earlier than most other countries, you think you'd bust out the plans at that time to prepare as early as some other nations.

One of the major reasons most governments and workplaces don't use NVDA is due to the fact NVDA is an open source screenreader. this is a majority security vulnerability that can cause some mayhem if something with some form of adapatability and add-on capabilities was given a pass by workplace/government filters and firewalls. generally, comercial non-open source products are utilized in these workplaces, and Jaws is the best for screenreaders in this category.

This is what I see almost every time for most things that are not fighting games, and a few exceptions. And note none of this will ever be allowed in trying to make a multiplayer game due to the severe security vulnerability for cheating software to take advantage.   As well, as many people already state, it's harder to put in accessibility after a game is made rather than part of the design. As well, there is 0 incentive for Epic games to cater to visually impared individuals, as we'd be the least likely to take part in their microtransaction system.    ...Also really, fort night? Re: socializing - any tips?

Man, that advice is so backwards at this day and age. In fact, good grades barely get you anywhere. Knowing how to form social connections and networking is where one gets you the $$. And the first introduction to socializing obviously comes from friends. People who focus solely much on academics will be at a severe disadvantage, unless they literally focus their studies at some ultra specialized and understaffed skillset. And even then, the guy or girl who has made friends to expand their options will still have an easier time.   It's hard to form social skills as an adult when one was told to discourage such things as a child. My parents were the same way, and I can say it made things harder. Along with college, you have to suddenly learn how to interact with people, and then quickly turn those connections into ways to improve yourself. Most people with healthy social skills just have to figure out how to network, not how to form relationships and friendships.   the first major hurtle is to try to integrate yourself with the interests and social topics of your classmates. These students have no knowledge nor interst of topics that are popular with the visually impaired. No one uses Team talk in the sighted world, they use Discord. Most people don't use audio programs too heavily in that age group yet, but discussing books with the right people will be a way to connect with others. You just need to observe what are the topics of interest with the people around you, and try to connect with them through showing interst and contribute to the discussion. Then from there, it gets easier to talk about other stuff. As well, avoid tactics by school administrators to segregate you from the main group of students, especially during lunch time. Do not be forced into a far off table close to exits where no one sits. Pick your own seat and maybe try to get to know people around you to sit with during lunch while in class.  It's always awkward meeting new people. Even the most social of butterflies have to consider the best way to interact with people and get a feel for who's around. It just takes practice. And the best time to do this is when young. Take this from someone who wished he wasn't so socially stunted when young, but its never too late.

Re: Awkward headphones

Not at the moment. Would need to go and buy another pair to check later. However, this pair works perfectly fine on my phone. It just began to act weird on the laptop itself.   Again, it's working now, despite the fact it's pretending to say headphoens are not plugged in. Hoin that doesn't manifest as anything more serious. Still confused how the heck I caused it to act weird when I moved the laptop.

Awkward headphones

2020-03-29 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : Vazbol via Audiogames-reflector

Awkward headphones

So, I'm having a bit of a sound issue on my laptop. And with the current Corona epidemic, it's not that I can go to a repair shop very easily.   The oddity I'm having started when I moved my laptop onto another table. Suddenly, the sound dimmed quickly, and sound was only playing in the left earbud, and really quietly. Windows was not recognizing anything was plugged into the headphone jack, despite you know, sound somewhat going to it.   After a few failed tries, I manage to fiddle with the Realtech audio manager and sliding one of the sliders returns sound to somewhat normalcy when it was shifted from 50. It was the first of the 3 sliders. Sliding it back to 50 reverts everything back to the one headphone speaking really softly issue.   However, my computer is still not detecting the headphones as actually plugged in. Running the troubleshooter shows that it's marking a headphone/audio device not being plugged in. As well, I'm noticing that it takes the headphones about 3-5 seconds before sound is shifted to the headphones. Lastly, I sometimes get an annoying crackling sound, though I'm starting to think that's NVDA needing to be rebooted.  Right, this'll do for now until everything is back to normal world wise. but I'm curious if anyone might have any suggestions on what may of happened to my headphones. They work on other devices. I'm just hoping I didn't somehow crack/break the headjack or audioboard within. Though if that was the case, these headphones would not have worked at all. I'm more thinking maybe I pressed something on the side of this laptop without noticing it when moving tables.

Re: Any fello transgender people on here?

I uh, actually didn't really get too invested in gender politics compared to the myriad other debates out there. But I always thought genders were just social constructs somewhat shakily agreed on by everyone? What some people picture as gender is actually more related to sex, i.e: having a penis or vagina.  Gender is more the perception we have a person. Men are emotionless dreadnaughts that need to be into woodworking, sports and the conquering of other neighbor's wives (exaggerations away!). Women as the motherly type that stay at home, and maintain the living space, cleaning, cooking, and setting up the outter defenses to withstand the next Xenomorph invasion.   Now, if you try to limit everyone into two gender roles, you're uh, you're going to have an issue. As can be obvious just by traveling down the magical highway of the internet, everyone is entirely different. It is impossible to just keep everyone categorized like that without resorting to sex, and that's it's own separate category.   Now I have no idea about the debate on someone deciding to change their sex to match their perceived gender. I'm curious if there would be any arguments if we advanced medicine and science to fully transition a person into a fully functioning female or male. Bits and parts working properly and what not, impossible to tell the bikini model used to be a man only 5 years earlier.  Things are progressing slowly to pull off such a thing. both from regular reconstruction fields, and our experiments with genetics.

For 179, Freedom of Speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences. I think as the old saying goes, (and not directed at anyone, just the quote):  You have the freedom to believe what you want, but I also have the freedom to believe you are an idiot.  That concept probably occurs with any backlash gotten from having an opposing opinion. At times the majority dictates what  is considered acceptable. As a counterpoint, one would get backlash having opinions supporting these groups from the majority not that long ago. Things have just changed, and those who once had support with those views are now left with far fewer allies open in the public to make their side the accepted norm in society.  Okay, the throwing objects at people thing during the march was far from the right thing to do. but I highly doubt they were going to try to kill the protesters. "Those people" kind of clues me in on your opinion of feminists, and that entire march was not composed of the more militant types. Just like claiming the entire Catholic Church isn't entirely overran by pedophiles, please don't generalize a group with the actions of a few. Due to my time with statistical research courses , generalizations like this make me foam madly from the mouth.

Ignoring the past, dying on a helicopter is probably one of the worst ways to go. Not so much that it is painful or anything, but most depictions of chopper crashes give victims enough time to realize their impending doom incoming. And with so many other people and one's daughter on the same vehicle, that must of just been a tragic last few seconds. So rest in piece everyone.

Re: Thoughts on Shoehorning unrelated content into works of entertainment.

As a liberal democrat with more progressive leaning views on most things   ...I have to agree with the poster here. Lots of content creaters really do not know how to include minority groups or women in a very tasteful and normal way. Instead, it just feels like it's in your face half the time that so is so is a woman and isn't that grand? Reminds me of the blind person climbing a staircase thing being something people should clap at.    most cringe worthy example I can think of was one of the trailers for batwoman. They played up the fact that she was a woman way more than as someone who had to compete with the dark knight's legacy throughout the city. That was honestly the most cringe thing I ever had to watch for a trailer.   It's like when people focus on us due to our disability rather than the disability just being considered a random character trait. I really doubt these groups enjoy having their identity used as a novelty in a show, rather than just including a lawyer who one might bump into casually on the streets with her female partner, before discussing whatever the case is.   I also hate the fact writers use their influence to try to forward their political beliefs through established works of fiction. You have a large audience, there's other ways to communicate this through your fanbase without making stories sound weird. Make another political series, or use whatever fanbase sites or blogs one might be running that people will read. The experience just gets jarring when social commentary is put into a series where none was had before. Sort of the opposite case if social commentary was a core part of the series in the first place.  Though, that is an amusing series type. Having a good chunk of your writing change based on real world events, and adapting one's story to that. Though hopefully that series doesn't include a section about wasteland survival in the radioactive lands of the U.S.A.

Ah cute, someone thinks FS makes most of their income with single purchase sales. As many people have pointed out, the main markets they make their profits from are government contracts and enterprise purchases. As well, there's the scripting scene to consider for interacting with comercial software/ creating scripts for custom private software for businesses. As well, this market is locked in, as some of the screen reader alternatives are open source, which is a no-no in sensitive-information managing institutions and businesses. Serving the single purchase is just a marketing tactic for showing they are an access company. but pricing (along with development concerns) mainly suggests the primary customer base can fling money of that constantly.

I wonder if court costs and the general trend of how this case is playing out is making some of the execs at DOminos wonder if it wouldn't of been cheaper and faster to put in a few accessibility fixes? As someone posted, there's already enough in-built options in ditors and programs to help polish up a site to work with screenreaders and other VI software. All they'd need is to hire someone, or have their IT team take a few days to learn the information to do it themselves.

Re: I'm leaving for now

Wait, I'm actually confused. If you need an FPS to play, isn't RTR still a thing that's up? Despite some small gripes, it's honestly the most balanced FPS compared to the others, which all have been taken down for rebalancing and recoding after community feedback. Ultimately, the projects will (or would of) returned after a bit of time, and most likely eclipse RTR, but that option was always still there. The fact individuals are violating the work the developer has put into making the original project, shutting it down, and starting to code a better version by playing the older less polished product of theirs is just brutal to one's mental health. It mostly shows that you do not really care for the developer's skills and work ethic, just to get off on a game. The moment they make an executive decision to take down and recode the project, he's met with constant harassment and code theft is just sad, and displays we honestly will play whatever we can grab our hands on, darn quality and developer's effort and sense of worth.   but no really, what was with the constant calls about not having an FPS shooter to play? Again, RTR is a thing and did not have a lot of the stuff that drove people away from the other games to cause a recoding cycle. But people chose the less palatable road. Also Swamp's versus thing was another one for people with those accounts. We had options that should not have made playing stolen code a priority, considering the damage it does to a community's reputation and a developer's mental health.

Re: I'm leaving for now

The difference is what goes on in the mainstream world is not cloning, but defining a new experience for others to create concepts from. Someone makes a cover shooter and suddenly the theme is popular with other games using the systems in different stories and mediums. What we see in our community is someone just changing the name of the project and sticks a few different sounds. they do not do anything to add onto the experience, or adapt it in a new story-telling medium as the sighted community does. Of course, cloning at times in the normal sense does occur, but you know, legal issues and community backlash goes against the plagiarized materials hard. You don't see people playing and lording Unity asset flips on Steam, do you?  The other thing I can think of is when one's intelectual property is used unofficially, or fan games. As long as no financial gains are gotten form the project, most people are usually accepting as people are capable of creating fun experiences and stories, and somewhat make a simulated fanfiction-type thing for people to play through. Smart companies tend to use the games as free exposure, supporting the projects at times. (I.e, Multiplayer Skyrim project as one example). granted, this is a bit less accepted by companies themselves, which tend to have the power to shut this down. SO yes, Sam does have a right to be annoyed at the stolen code and leaks. Worse that unlike in the mainstream community, people actively play in the cloned and inferior products, rather than unanimously back lashing. We are vocal about opposing leaks, but view it like this. How many people actually played the original red-spot or Ultra Power or the Killer? this shall be our base population for total individuals representing to shooter community in Audiogaming.  Now, how many people played the clones and stole the code? When the populations of those subcommunities are taken in account, support for stolen code is terrifyingly high.

Re: I'm leaving for now

isn't this a lovely thing for any outside developers somewhat interested in making content for this community to see. "People are constantly hostile and routinely steal code from projects? Well I'm getting out of here."    Really now, code theft here is probably more serious of a negative attribute for us than in the forms of media sighted consumers take. if you haven't noticed, we're a small community. Though there might be millions of individuals with a visual disability, we form a small fraction of that. This means that the number of individuals who tend to steal code or crack games tends to look proportionally larger than entire websites cracking and stealing media and its source in some way. The fact our forum pages tend to have a constant reminder of situations of reported stolen code, developers leaving the forum and individuals blatantly posting stolen content despite seeing what tends to happen to such accounts is painting a very poor portrait of the site. This ultimately may result in sighted and non-sighted developers from developing for the community, or at worst rarely interacting with us.   Also not helping is the constant hostility to other forum members, devs and moderation staff people seem to spew quite nearly daily. Honestly this is a site for the discussion of audiogames and constructive feedback for developers, not a chat forum. I'm starting to think the site should honestly get more draconian with forum rules and discussion to limit things to focusing on the games rather than on the people, and shut down attacks on each other. Topics and discussions on the general forum and new releases should just stop referencing people in 90% of cases, only illustrating extreme cases of customer maltreatment or situations surrounding it, rather than something about a hairball and multiple variations of the word fuck you and your homosexual boyfriends that I'm pairing up in my mind because despite this being 2019, I'm still relying on 20 year old insults because I'm 12 (not me, just the sample of unconstructive discussion I tend to see). Which actually makes me think of a smaller point. Do we currently have a content warning for this website? The general wild nature of the forums does expose lots of colorful language at times. I honestly don't care about people throwing out f bombs like they were green M & M's, but I do know some parents and the like come onto these forums at times, and may not enjoy their child seeing that.   Sure, people might be mad at the fact the forum would start limiting one's right of _expression_ or something. However, the constant drama and badgering that goes way off topic to the discussion of games and their development is honestly unprofessional for a sight dedicated to audiogames. The Mud Connector forums had the same policy of letting discussions and what not go free and mods rarely stepped in to stop some stuff. Now the forums are no longer displayed as a core part of the sight as people abused the heck out of it. The same is starting to begin here with developers abandoning the platform to speak on here. The Reddit version of the mud's sight is still going, and they're a lot more terrifying with rule enforcement for mud developers and others to the sight, tending to mostly squash drama before it gets too out of hand. But of course I recognize we can't exactly do that here, as it also seems the opinion of the modding staff currently by many members is low. The moment someone's mocking of someone else is deleted, cries of mod powertrips shall be shouted, and probably aimed at Jayde or something if someone else did it.  Ah screw it, let's nuke the forums all together except for developers posting releases and the developer room. Let the developers create their own commenting platform for discussion on their sites. TL-Dr:  Our community has proven we are horrible in a less restricted format, time to get the dragon in or nuke the forum if we can't be trusted to get on topic with focusing on audiogames and development.

Further more, we have a more advanced form of socialization that is not likely to be found to the extent we have it in animals, allowing lesser traits to survive. A great irony of evolution. We use advancements in science to allow the people who should be dead to survive longer and thrive. On evil, science has a theory on that through psychology and early child care. It does not exist. The concept of evil is a social construct for genetic traits and knowing how children work. In short, babies can be considered the spawn of satans if we apply our form of evil onto them. Positive traits are learned compared to baser  instincts of one's self. People are more likely to be evil and have to learn to be good. Rationalization and defense mechanisms are what we use to try to justify evil acts which our bodies considered normal, as in all honesty, your body only cares about itself. If you have not noticed, children are self centered, bratty and generally a pain when young. Parents have to teach their children concepts such as sharing, manors and to stop kicking little Jimmy off the slide. Parents can also exacerbate these traits, making them into unbearable and cruel monsters who never progressed farther from this stage. Of course, other cultural, social and mental factors can alter a person's behavior and disposition. And amusingly enough, religion supports this idea in some interpretations. Why do you need a religion to be able to do good? If religion is needed to do good, then doesn't that mean the construct of evil is our base, and good has to be developed and learned? For your claim, those people you listed either never learned, or were incapable of learning (i.e mental disabilities that make it difficult to learn these concepts). There are entire fields in science dedicated to understanding why people tend to act a certain way that you can refer to in answering that question. Tl-Dr: Science never claims to be perfect, religion does.

Don't forget the horrors of the second world war where they tried to bread out certain traits and encourage the proliferation of others. Tampering with nature on a genetic level is just as dangerous as brainwashing people into becoming murderers for their countries and their leaders via propaganda and religion. I know this is rather a cheap shot at evolution and even scientists cannot prove beyond any shadow of doubt that evolution is a reliable theory; you are a proponent of the evolution theory, can you prove it to be completely reliable and sound? I know I cannot prove that there is indeed an afterlife nor can I prove beyond any shadow of doubt that God exists. I cannot prove that any given religion is true while others are false. I cannot prove that creation is a reliable and sound theory, nor can I prove that we derive comfort from the creation theory. Having said that, I don't dismiss evolution as a theory; I believe that creation and evolution go hand in hand.Kind regards, Amin Abdullah.Science does not prove anything. We never say that science proves, we say the evidence supports or rejects the theory. Science is open to any changes once more information is discovered to add on to our previous understanding. In regards to evolution, there is enough evidence to support the theory for the time being, as basic genetics and controlled testing have shown this to be the case. When no one screws with experiments or observations of nature, the desired traits tend to linger and reproduce more, while lesser traits die or do not attract mates. Hell, many of our own bodily features, health issues and the like come from evolutionary traits that lingered on that did not match well with how we changed from simple creatures. Trying to apply evolution to humans is hard due to how badly we twisted the concept through that demon known as science and medicine. Re: Mark Gabriel's Testimony

Hey now, science doesn't disprove that anything beyond the physical realm does not exist. Hell, the nature of the scientific method itself does not prove anything neither. Science just attempts to give explanation to anything we are capable of measuring, and is open to revision as technology and our understanding of the universe grows. Things that were considered accepted facts back then have been changed dramatically after more research and understanding. Our nonacceptance of the afterlife and anything that happens afterwards comes from the knowledge that we have no way of testing and measuring any of that stuff at the time being. We must determine it to be non-existent for the time being until evidence can be brought up to support or reject this theory. And this is where science has issue with religion. Religion requires blind faith to whatever sacred entity they worship without evidence to support the existence of their god/goddess. Not helping is the fact that the god the major 3 religions worship can be considered the same being, further muddying the waters. For all we know, the great god and our creator is just the concept of probability (all worship the Random number God), and cultures just personified the act of creation. 'Less helpful is the method religions tend to use to show that their religion is the one true religion. Rather than civil academic and theological debate, and exemplifying the good nature of their worshippers to contribute to the world (which holy text do support), it's all political maneuvering, manipulation of worshippers and texts, and a good old crusade to kill the other side. One really can't say their religion is the right one if the rest were just removed from existenceThis is why I'm not faithful to a religion. The entire construct of religion has been interfered with heavily by human hands, yet we call it the work of god. God did not personally write the holy texts, but was put through a second party.  Second parties who may of had a chance to alter the message before writing it down. Heck, we see this obviously occurring with the story at the start, with the Egyptian government altering a version of religion that had a different interpretation of the holy texts. Is it not possible that the original books written by humans was also altered? Religions really don't have support in giving evidence this is the actual word of their deity without complete blind faith, and that type of manipulation is dangerous.

Re: I lost everything

As someone who had one laptop's drive go from perfectly functioning with no obvious signs of the drive dying, to the drive committing spectacular suicide in front of a Geek Squad member in the span of 2 days, let me be one to tell you having backups of important things is important.  Luckily, certain documents, papers, and work stuff I used for writing samples have survived due to having them backed up on smaller drives, or uploaded onto a cloud service. However, I did lose a lot of school work I did, some books and lots of game saves. However, a lot of that is not entirely important.  I still have game keys offloaded and saved on a thumb drive, or they are easily reusable on other systems (though hopefully I do not run into piracy issues if it turns out nothing was salvageable from my drive). I'm still awaiting the verdict if anything was saved and backed up, but it is highly doubtful considering what happened.  I opted to purchase and replace my old hdd with a SDD, an plan to do the same with this laptop once the hdd gives outagain (why yes I seem to be cursed with hdd's on both my laptops, why do you ask?).  Though some class work was lost, the more important things I have written was saved at least, and the rest can be redownloaded, reinstalled, or forgotten about. However, probably in a few months, i think I'll go and purchase a few more external drives to hold backups of my files in.  It honestly does not have to be everything, just important documents, books and a few save files (oh lovely, I forgot to back up my BK3 save come to think about it.  Whelp, time to start from my last backup).  If anything, just choose to always offload important creations and files onto spare thumb drives, cloud services or external drives as priority #1. Then perform larger back-ups if necessary. It might not be if you're fine or can easily recover the other programs and items in your computer and can use this time for uh, unintentional spring cleaning (Sometimes the great crash god helps you out with removing clutter you haven't used for a while and do not feel like reinstalling).

Re: Help with hazing issue (may get controversial)

going to agree with jayde above.  From the OP's very first post, it is evident that he has a lack of understanding on how mental health, family structures, and the interactions of outside stimuli tend to interact together.   he disregards the situation of the bully, not realizing that such information is useful in avoiding a solution that results in someone getting horribly injured, killed or the abuse moved somewhere else.  Yet this person wants to pretend to be a social worker sympathizing with just one side, already resulting in a negative outcome of victomhood defensively popping in;  Something a professional would anticipate to occur and would work to avoid or minimize in the process of a therapy and effective solution, as explained by Jayde.  Quite literally the first step that should of been taken is to contact known family and affected parties to coordinate an intervention by professional authorities.  Your meddling in the situation has already compromised useful evidence and resources, and caused someone to go very withdrawn from trying to seek help.  before things get worse, you need to tell parents and councilors in your school about your friends issue, and let them escalate the situation to other authorities once an investigation is conducted.    And by the love of god, kick solution three out of your head.  Going back to what I said about disregarding the bully's own situation, this type of knowledge helps in somewhat predicting potential reactions to negative stimulus as your proposing.  the mass of negative texts will either get ignored, his bullying either expanding to more targets or worsening for current targets, your friend being found severely injured, or a mass shooting at your school (people can react differently to what your assumptions predicted it to be?  Who would of known)..  Also, fighting bullying with more bullying never tends to work;  the thing you miss in television or movies of that happening is the bully finding a new target.  Whether that be another student, family member or a small adorable kitten.     Note:  I'm not actually a social worker unlike post 48.  However, the stuff I tended to do at internship and other work sites had me interacting with university social work departments, along with the DCF of our state and non-profits related to such causes as improved foster care and mental health.  Civilian involvement in these fields are always directed and monitored by appropriate professionals, and civilians were always advised to contact the proper authorities first instead of going on their own (a problem with their volunteers trying to resolve home or friend situations just because they worked as a volunteer for a mental health care non-profit was weirdly common).

At Post 5:   I hate you so much for bringing up that reference, but it was bound to happen.  Heh.        You know, I wonder if a better way of describing our current era is one where gender roles shouldn't even exist.  Dwarfer has noted that the old roles no longer apply to everyone even if some primal instincts still exist.  Maybe it might be time to drop on seeing how a gender should act, and have a more general idea on how people should be treating one another as a collective.

What is a Man?

2019-01-17 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : Vazbol via Audiogames-reflector

What is a Man?

In relation to that "End of Men" topic, I'm curious what everyone's perception of being a man exactly is.  Part of this also spawns from this news-worthy ad:         https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koPmuEyP3a0    I mean, as awkward as it is for a men's related shaving company to be posting something like this, the responses on what a man should be from various writers on news sites, and random comments has been a bit of a view on the various perceptions of manhood.  Personally I just find this video a bit awkward in general, and think a group more experienced with the subject matter should of handled a message like this.   However, in a meta way, it does sort of give the message of "Men have the power to change and are fully capable of running into this arena," as a men's related hygiene product feels that it can throw itself into the ring.        I believe that men are capable of shifting change with their own hands, especially with the power we hold in society.  As well, I believe men have a competitive nature, and seek to challenge themselves throughout their lifetime.  If women want to step into a higher level of society and more aggressively compete against us, bring it on.  We don't need barriers to prove who is better as individuals, and people should figure out their place in the overall order of things.  And once this order is established, we then focus on protecting everyone and performing our duties.    Men have mostly built up society in the past, which is why I find it awkward that some people uphold the more savage and brutish nature of men more suited to the wild.  And before someone tells me that this is some opinion that an SJW feminist wrote, that type of thinking is reflected in places like the NRA that men were born to be violent and dangerous (but considering this is an interest group that lobbies for rights of firearms, I guess being dangerous helps with people owning more).  This opinion that men are by nature aggressive and dominant is one that people have expressed out, in various shades of the civilized/wild spectrum of dominant.  (i.e:  protective vs aggressive).      but as this seems like a fun place to put a collection of views on masculinity down, what is everyone's own personal view of being a man?  And I'm really meaning personal, and not a definition found on a website/book.

Re: The End of Men

A society is formed by everyone, so it takes everyone to resolve a societal problem.   A bit of a simple concept, but many seem to just ignore this idea.        Such as the wage gap issue, especially with men and women.  Highlighting the issue of differing pay between men and women has slowly let the gap shrink through solutions that tackle aspects of the sex wage gap.   Whether that be women not pushing themselves to higher levels of education, the maternity leave problem (both on pay and the fact not attending work hampers chances at promotion), or the jobs that women tend to do are seen as less important (i.e: compare the pay of an editor to an automotive magazine to one for home improvements).  Also, there's that awkward situation where men within women dominated fields were being paid more than women (this one got turned around and was from an article a decade ago).  Obviously some of these factors had to be resolved by women, from teaching them to be more assertive with asking for pay raises, gaining an education in high paying fields, etc.  However, women cannot change more ingrained societal beliefs such as their work being seen as lesser to a man's, or the more cultural trends that persuaded women away from reaching higher education and to settle for said lesser jobs or housework.  That requires an effort by all parties to come to an agreement and to change the social perception of women and their work.       Though, in more related terms to this topic, the title of this forum thread and the linked article are a bit weird.  I clicked on something that states "The End of Men' yet it lists the advancements that women have made when reading through the article.  Women improving probably reflects more the end of the old construct of woman then the end of men.  Thus, as a sister (or uh brother) topic to this one, can we discuss what exactly it is to be a man?   I guess I'll post?

Yup, U.S resident here, but not sure if we have the budget for an out of country trip just yet.  As well, if I did have to go out of country, I cannot fly as my remaining eye will quite literally explode due to change in pressure (However, this looks like a non-issue afterwards, heh).  So those options would be by boat, and at that point that can possibly be it's own vacation option.  I might lean more towards a more warmer environment for the trip, but this is mainly due to lacking any experiences for more winter oriented vacation spots.  Outside of maybe walking around places for exploring, I'm not sure if as many activities are openned to those that cannot see well  (prepares skiing gear).  And if I was going to do some site seeing, it's better done not suffocating in winter clothing I guess.
