a recent issue that I had with IOS 10 which got resolved with a restore made me think that the screen gets covered in black and prevents anything from being drawn on it. Basicaly when I turned on the screen curtain half of the screen was still visible

It may be true that the screen curtain alone doesn't help much with reducing battery usage, but I'm not unhappy with how long I can go between needing to recharge the phone, so I'm not too inclined to fuss with the screen brightness settings.I have

yeah I realised this aswell, if the brightness is set to 100 even if the screen curtain is on you will lose the same amount of battery if it wasn't. the best thing is to set brightness to 0 to save as much battery life as possible.

I am fairly certain that the screen curtain does not save very much battery power. In order to maximise your use of the battery for the screen, set the brightness to 0. The brightness bug was also present in iOS 9.

@Figment: I've also heard the opposite turning on the screen curtain doesn't turn off the brightness, which doesn't really make sense though when you think about it. I'm not really sure what happens, hoping you are right.

From what I understand turning on the screen curtain is the same as setting the brightness to zero. It's simply more convenient.Plus, if you are getting sighted help or handing your phone to a sighted friend, turning off Voice Over so they don't have
