I'm one of those 'weirdo's that can hear the difference between WAV and
FLAC on the SBT. I have two units and I have confirmed it on both. I've
had a friend come over a few times and randomly play a WAV file and the
FLAC counterpart. For the first half hour I could

SBT to my Windows 7/64 PC. (No router). My SBT analogs plug to my
receiver. Awhile ago I was using TinySBS with SD Cards... I could also
tell the difference between FLAC and WAV with that setup as well.

My guess is there is a problem with the software/hardware somewhere. The
fact that FLAC's suddenly sounded "normal" to me when I switched Native
to Disabled is odd. Particularly when my mind wasn't expecting to be any

I never understood the concept of different systems in different rooms.
Why listen to the bedroom system when you can listen to the superior
living room system, down the hall? For me there can only be ONE system.

Not only does cheap in-wall wiring render expensive power cords useless
but so does the first six inches of cable inside some A/V PLAYERS, like

Yeah, I figured the DAC's -alone- wouldn't be make or break. It would
still be interesting to compare the two. I mean, if the Transporter
sounded better, I'd have to give the ex-guys at Slim Devices some major
credit.

If you're prepared to spend over $1000 for a DAC, then I'd go for the
Transporter.
You may also want to try the Emotiva DC-1. I've read really good reviews
from various sites. You can return it within 30 days if you don't like
it.

some older threads where some have stated that they hear clicks or pops
with certain 24/96 files. I believe the 'fix' was to use compression

Most Transporter issues seem to stem from faulty PSU's. Perhaps some
sort of voltage leak is occurring. If that turns out to be your issue,
you can purchase a replacement here...

Is the PSU for the display only? Are sckramer and I talking about the

So I take it you are unplugging it when not in use? You should only hear
the relay when plugging it in. I suggest you either just keep it plugged

It's super easy. Once you have the cover open you just have to remove a
couple screws and two connectors, and then replace the PSU.

Sales tax is one thing...and it almost always expected. Brokerage fees
are another. When you buy a $20 item (plus shipping) and get charged an

A newer DAC might have more bells and whistles, but it doesn't mean it
will sound better.
IMO, I think you would need at least a Benchmark DAC2 to surpass the
Transporter.

When I play back my vinyl rips (or needle drops) on my Transporter, 90%
of them sound better than the digital counterpart. That includes CD's,

We've been experiencing a nasty winter this year with trees falling out
lines, causing power failures and brownouts. Sometimes the power will
come on, go off then go on again. Man, I hate that.
The only equipment I have that I care about is my vintage receiver,

The seller (Hotdogtec) does this when he goes on vacation. He doesn't

That's crazy that you've gone through 4 PS's with the same result.
That's not typical for the Touch. At first I thought it could be a dirty
power issue (since you require a power conditioner) but I don't think
dirty power would be a direct cause of a remote not working.

Last year he listed them as NEW. Now he lists them as "refurbished" with
a much lower price. I decided to take a chance and buy one. My previous
Transporter was purchased from *hotdogtec*, which was (and still is)
listed as NE
Agreed with garyM although I have never heard of the displays outright
breaking, but they can fade over time. Also, I personally use brightness
level 2.

Most people here leave their Transporters on 24/7, and the units are
still operating after a decade or more. The only issue for some was the
common PSU issue, which can easily be swapped. In the Player/Display
settings make sure Power Off Brightness is set to 0 (Dark).

the volume is set to max or better yet, in the Player/Audio settings
make sure Volume Control is set to: *Output Level Is Fixed At 100%*.
