Is there someplace to look for crew lists for non-whaling ships that
sailed into New Bedford? My ggf was reportedly a ship captain but we
were told that it was not a whaling ship. I did search this website
but did not find him although I used variations of his name. We were
told that

The date on the file card of June 8 1882, is incorrect. The ship SS Monarch
arrived in Hawaii 2 Jul 1882, 57 days out of Sao Miguel . It would have left
port the first week of May, and been
rounding South America at that time. The manifest might not be available,
but the Oakland FHC

This where the family is from. When you order films at the FHC this the
place to look for. In Faja Cima the church records are for Nossa Senhora da
Olveira.
A concelho is like a county, a group of towns.
A fregusia is the town . Faja means fan but refers to the fan shaped area
built up

I see someone answered your question. Yes, all ships first went to
Honolulu where the people were process. The Portuguese immigrants
went through the Portuguese Consulate and were recorded in those
logs. Those logs are on microfilm with the LDS church. The consulate
logs are a good
