Iris, Thank you, that was really nice of you. I have been trying to find Luiz on a census but no luck so far. I don't know how long they stayed there before moving onto California. He could have only been on either 1890 or 1900 because he and his son Manuel (my g grandfather) were dead by the time the 1910 census happened. I found Roza and Manuels wife and daughters in 1910 in Oakland, CA. I know that Manuel was killed 8/16/09 in a quarry explosion but I have no idea so far what happened to Luiz and when. I found an index card for them in June of 1882 on the SS Monarch but have been unable to find the actual manifest. I am pretty sure that this is my g great grandfather Manuel Fernandes and his parents and brother. If I could find more info about them, I could be more sure. According to Roza's death cert and the info from one of the census' she immigrated somewhere between 1880 and 1885 with her husband and at least one son. She was born Jan 1859 and her son was born Aug 1878. I don't know any dates for Luiz.
