Jacki, This where the family is from. When you order films at the FHC this the place to look for. In Faja Cima the church records are for Nossa Senhora da Olveira.
A concelho is like a county, a group of towns. A fregusia is the town . Faja means fan but refers to the fan shaped area built up by eroding soil. This gives a flat place to farm and/or build houses. It's commonly seen as a place name all over the Azores. ( Faja Grande, Fajazinha,Faja do Joao Dias, Faja dos Cubres) So it would be the top or upper faja. Faja de Cima, is next to Faja de Baixo, the lower, bottom, or at the base. Here is a map from Doug Holmes Portuguese Geneaolgy Master list site. You can look through the postings there to see if others are researching this family also. http://www.dholmes.com/master-list/azores/ponta-delgada.html Eric On Fri, Dec 11, 2009 at 12:14 PM, Jacki G. <[email protected]> wrote: > Eric, > > Do you or does anyone else know what this means? > > *Freguesia-*FC for Faja de Cima > > It translates as Clientele from above Faja > > Would that be where he worked? > > > Jacki > Pittsburg, California, USA > Researching: Medeiros, Fernandes, Pacheco, Machado, Perriera, Azevedo > Islands: Faial & Sao Miguel > > > ------------------------------ > *From:* [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] *On > Behalf Of *eric edgar > *Sent:* Thursday, December 10, 2009 10.42 PM > > *To:* [email protected] > *Subject:* Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Ships Records/Hawaii > > Jacki, > > Here is the passport out of Ponta Delgada for this family.
