records of some coming into Providence RI in 1913 and it says they are
from Fernaes da Luz, Sao Miguel and they left their mother Bernardo de

father died. When I searched the Diario de Noticias, there it was - a

The book came from Santa Maria after a kind listmember, a while back,
told me about it and I was able to have a friend help me obtain a
copy. I will be in the Azores (not Santa Maria) and will see if/how
one can get a copy today. I don't exactly remember, but I think the
cost was $15/20.
I found a Joseph Francis b. abt. 1832 who came to the US June 25, 1852
on the schooner Waldron Holmes sailing from Fayal to Boston. It says
he is a mariner. There is also a Manuel Francis on this ship.

ticket we are going from the US to Europe on, I have to take British
Airways from London to Lisbon first and then I am going to Terceira

while I was able to select my seats from Lisbon to Sao Miguel and
back, I was not able to select seats from Sao Miguel to Terceira and

My Victor family had a circus. They orginally came from Italy and
mainland Portugal. Why they settled in the Azores is a mystery. They
performed on the trapeze and one of my great aunts said she hung from
her hair (ouch!!) My aunt told me they also had animals (horses and
dogs). So

Curious... When was you grandmother b. in Porto Judeu as one of my
great uncles, Manuel Victor, was born in the Village of Santo Antonio
Porto Judeu in 1885, which means my circus family was in that area
then. I don't know what happened to him, though.

I am researching Manuel Duarte De Mello b. abt. 1872 Sao Miguel. His
wife is listed as Francisca Vittoria(sp?) b. abt. 1877 Sao Miguel. I
believe they married in the US and would appreciate if someone who has

Yes, there was/is an orphange in Ponta Delgada. It was called Asilo
de Infancia Desvilida de Ponta Delgada . Today it is called La Mae de
Deus. My great aunt was there from 1891 to 1902. I have had contact
with this orphange and made donations in her memory also. I plan to
visit it on

checked the SATA site and it looks like 6 kg in hand baggage (13.22
lbs) and 20 kilos checked (44.09 lbs.) I have no problems with these

Many of us have run into this situation. I have a family member who
insists her mother was an only child even though she has 10 siblings
(that I have found so far). She will not share any information about
her mother except she was born in Flores, which I am not sure is
exactly true.
I want to thank everyone for their input on our trip to Europe,
specifically, the Azores. Have made all our hotel reservations.
Don't know if I will do any research or not while there but it will be
fun to see where my grandmother's family lived--I can't say came from

months later another child with another woman who is listed as
solteira. In this case, it says pai incognito but he is named as the
grandfather in a later record.

Maria Pedro was adopted by a Pedro family who lived in Flores shortly after
birth. I am not sure where in Flores but that is where she was brought up.
She told me Antonio Pedro was a ship's architect and once came to
Philadelphia. We have had no further contact so I don't know much
