East, East Africa(which I didn't show before) and, of course, lot's of

I know, doesn't seem right though. We had small differences last 'origins'
but now it's way off! How in the heck did he get any British Isles! He
didn't show that at all on the last one. I didn't have any East Africa
before only North Africa and around Turkey, Israel and Egypt, now I'm down

town. The Passportes should give you the town they were born in (you have

the ship lists for all of the 'brothers' that were granted citizenship
under their father. If you can work from what you know to what you haven't

Jeremy, the 1900 to 1911 records are beautiful and no abbreviations. When
you get back to the 1600 & 1700's you are talking about many abbreviations,
bleedover from the previous page and horrible handwriting. It would have to
be someone who was very familier with all of that to even try to extract

I think I ordered about Jan 28 so it took not quite 3 weeks. I think that
is really fast from Portugal. The book not only has abbreviations for names
but other words that are used in the church records. I even shows the 'y'
for the 'i' and 's' for 'z' change in the names.

Linda, Thanks so much for the info, I'll be ordering the booklet right
now!! It's nice to see the different abbreviations on the different islands
and priests! Especially with the paleography looking so different.

George, just as a FYI, women often changed their religious names or tacked
on a surname but I've never come across a woman changing her 'given' name
(ie Anna to Clara or vise versa). I could have been an error by the priest
of scribe entering the info though, so tough to figure out. You just need

Louie, that's another reason to get the Basic Portuguese Paleography
booklet I talked about in class on Saturday. Some of those capital letters
are so different than what we see today you wouldn't recognize them!

Did they marry in 1809?? If so, that is probably the date the "Bans" were
read, usually about 3 weeks before the actual marriage. The word before the
dad's name could be a title but I can't seem to read it! Sorry
