Many thanks to those who posted in response to my request. Thanks to you, I
have a pretty clear idea of what it says. I appreciate your efforts very
much.

Thank you Margaret. I gave up on the center part that looked to me like
"...queda q. deiq?" that I just couldn't make any sense of.

2016-10-13 Thread Margaret Vicente
Hi,
The side note says:

A impossibilidade foi o mau tempo e uma queda que dei quando estava indo
para a sepultura com o defunto.

The bad weather was the impossibility and a fall that I took while on the
way to the sepulchre with the deceased.

The margin note then clarifies. NB (I believe this in "Nota Bem" ), the
impossibility was bad weather.

Repost for George Sousa, georgecsousa at gmail.com

In terms of the side note... This may be of little help, but I'm able to
make out some of text and I think it says

"N.B. A Impossibilidade (possibly an abbreviavion for 'que') foi mão tempo
(unable to follow this text and/or abbreviations) estive indo (possibly
'para' or an abrevidation) a spultura com o defunto"

As you've stated this is a note about "bad weather" and "accompanying the
deceased to the internment site"... what I can't figure out is if this
intended to say "that despite the bad weather I accompanied the deceased to
the interment site" or "because of the bad weather I was unable to
accompany the deceased to the internment site". Maybe someone who is more
familiar with the abbreviations might be able to help.

For those who will try to help, I should mention that the record is the
second one on the left page and Antonio Pereira casado com Antonia Rosa is
written in the margin.
Corrected link:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/GRA-
SC-SANTACRUZ-O-1841-1860/GRA-SC-SANTACRUZ-O-1841-1860_item1/P159.html

On the twenty-eighth day of the month of April of the year of one thousand
eight hundred and fifty-eight, having received the Divine Sacraments of the
Sick, died Antonio Pereira, [written between lines is, I believe “resident
behind the peak” which is confirmed in Confessados] married to Antonia
Rosa, eighty-four years old, more or less, ….

The remainder I think says something about being accompanied by the
Reverendo Collegio but there was an impossibility of doing something and
only something else was done in the church.

Then, in the margin is written something about bad weather dealing with the
grave and the deceased.
