I've tried creating a script to switch between open files in a project
by recording myself clicking on files in the windows palette. I get,
in the script, stuff like
select text document X of project window 1
Where X, to me, seems like a random number - I can click on several
files, and X might,
Oh, and myself? I have a love-hate relationship with tabs - I use them
on other editors, but don't miss them on BBEdit. I think for me it
just clutters things up too much, especially if I have a lot of files
open.
However, I do miss the unified, everything fits in one window approach
you get in
Personally, I would love to be able to consolidate 5 or 6 project windows
into a single tabbed window.

Why don't you folks who want tabs just use a bbedit worksheet?
I rarely use Finder these days and I never open a bbedit slide drawer.
What I do is to always have a bbedit worksheet open on my leftmost monitor. In
it are shell scripts that I can select and click any time I want. They are
Btw... how can I switch between open files via hotkeys?
And is there a possibility to access open files directly by hotkey? (Cmd+1
for 1st file, Cmt+2 for 2nd, etc)

I would find a tabbed interface highly useful if it organized open files in
a way non-redundant with the Files sidebar. So, suppose:
- The tabs default to most-recently used order
- The user can drag them into a different order, so that they form a
working set
Tabs organized these ways would

So, like, if you have them alphabetized, then the next file to be opened would
appear in alphabetized order?

I generally like tabbed interfaces, although I'm also fine with
sidebars and popdown lists. The problem I sometimes have with tabs is
that if the document filenames are long, the tabs become unwieldy, or
hard to decipher if the filenames in the tabs are automatically
truncated in various ways.
