At 2:30 pm today, I observed an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull on the ice-edge
off Little Lake Cemetery with about 50 Herring Gulls.
Slightly smaller than accompanying HERGs; very dark to black back; head heavily
streaked, which looks like it is hooded at a distance; photographed.

Ontbirders,
Obviously there is some duplication between Jeff Skev. and my posts. He posted
while I was composing, so, apologies for saying the same thing twice.

Ontbirders,
Myself, Jeff and Richard Skevington were able to see the incredible mix of
warblers that have found haven in Sedgewick Park today. It was like warblers on
parade, as birds made an appearance a few seconds apart as they slowly worked
the thin line of shrubbery. I have had far worse d
The now dead Western Tanager at Durham Court Park in Oshawa was pointed out
to me this morning by another birder. It was lying on the ground near the
east boundary of the park. Hopefully this will save someone a drive. It's
unfortunate that so many vagrants end up this way.

Today Eleanor Thomson found a Boreal Owl in downtown Merrickville. She
spotted it moving lying in the snow and barely moving, and picked it up.
It died in her hands a few minutes later so there is no need for me to post
directions to the cadaver. The owl appeared to lack meat around its

Hello Ontbirders,
James Holdsworth, Richard Skevington and I were birding in Hamilton
area today and went to see the extravaganza of warblers at Sedgewick
Park in Oakville. Within 3 minutes of arriving we had seen all of the
reported species - amazing. There are a few things that I would like

Dear all,
There are a couple of changes for the post sent yesterday. Firstly, we did not
see two turkey vultures. They were turkeys. I thought that they were turkeys
but my husband insisted that turkeys could not fly that high into the trees.
He was corrected today by Bruce Di Labio.

I travelled to Niagara again with renewed hope that the gull would 'easy' to
find. Not so much. Along with 3 or 4 cars of other birders we searched for
several hours. At least 55 GBBG and 10 LBBG (mostly adults) were present.

Hi, everyone,
Rohan VanTwest and I saw the thrasher about 5 minutes ago (thanks to
Dale for telling us it was still around today). The bird is feeding in
the Asian Bittersweet vine (the one with all the red berries above the
benches) by the reflecting pool of The Arboretum Centre. The sun is
Hi all,
I decided to sign up for this list after finding a few decent winter birds
around the Greenbank area (5 Eastern Bluebirds, 1 White-crowned Sparrow, 1
Red-bellied Woodpecker, and 2 Lapland Longspurs - you can contact me in private
for details of any of those sightings if you're intereste
Hi, everyone,
I walked around The Arboretum Centre today to try to spot the Brown
Thrasher reported by Alec Follett but with no luck. Our grounds crew
was busy removing the snow around the building, so the thrasher might
have gone somewhere else for a bit. I'll let you know if I see it -

After the month of December, the cumulative provincial winter list stands at
205 species. This is already the second highest winter list we have had since
keeping track 6 winters ago. The highest was last year's 224 and the average is
202. I have sent the updated list to Blake Maybank and he wi
My mistake - the thrasher was near the Arboretum Centre not the JC Taylor
interpretive building yesterday afternoon.
If you start at the feeder and walk north west around the building you'll see
the vines attached to the wood beams that make an awning connected to the
building. The thrasher sp
Good morning and a very bird filled and Happy New Year to yawl.
Yesterday Jan. 1/13 Ian Cannell and I birded some of the Long Point area in the
morning and afternoon returning home in the evening via Hagersville and a very
productive day it was.
First we would like to thank Diane Salter of Wals
