Just to keep the record up to date. The bird was seen flying over Britannia
(Ottawa) on 13 July in the evening and went to roost on Conroy Island (Quebec)
per.comm. from Rod Dubois. The bird was not seen 14 or 15 July on the Quebec
side. I was there from 6 to 8.45 pm this evening with
I have not seen any report on Ontbirds for today Tuesday 7 July but there is an
EBird report at 5.25 am from Andrew Haydon Park of the Little Egret arriving
there

After receiving a couple of requests about travelling to Ottawa for the Little
Egret I just wanted to update Bruce DiLabio's post of this morning. The bird
did NOT show up at Andrew Haydon Park after several days of arriving there
first thing in the morning.

I first saw the bird this morning at 5:10 a.m., as it flew west past the
Britannia Yacht Club heading for Andrew Headon Park. At the bottom of
Britannia Road (north end), turn left on Cassel and park at the dead end. Here

The Little Egret was seen well from the south end of Ch Vanier in Alymer,
Quebec at 6:50 p.m. today. It was flying low over the Ottawa River from the
west along the Quebec shore. It landed on the trees at the west end of Conroy
Island in the Deschenes rapids then dropped out of sight into the fo

The bird is still at the Creek mouth and visible from Britannia point. For
those with Quebec lists and assuming the bird follows last nights routine it
went to roost on Conroy Island Gatineau at 6.35 pm. Best views would be from
Britannia Point as it crosses the river into Quebec. Assuming it do

The Little Egret was seen at 8:30 am by Bill Lindley and myself at the mouth of
Pinecrest Creek in Ottawa. Later, it moved further out and was last seen at
9:00 am feeding right beside the American Avocet. Both birds can be seen with
a scope from the parking lot off of the Sir John A. MacDonal
The Little Egret is currently feeding just east of the mouth of Pinecrest
Creek. Visible from the Deschenes Rapids lookout parking lot off the parkway;
best viewed by walking ~5 minutes west along the bike path.

June 2. Early afternoon to early evening at Carp
June 3 first light to 6am at Carp
June7 afternoon at Kanata
June 8 Bridlewood Kanata and Palladium
Hi birders,
At 4:25pm, the Little Egret was observed from our balcony.It was located near
the same place as the American Avocet, but closer to the bike path.
Same directions as for the avocet.
Unfortunately, we don't see it right now. However, we'll keep looking and
update if it returns.

Great views today. At one point or time there were up to 2 great egrets and 2
great blue herons.
The Little Egret was grooming itself on a rock in the bay for 15+ minutes until
a great egret chased it off. But it is still here as if 12:30pm.

For those of you considering travelling to see the Little Egret I think there
is a very good chance that the bird will stay at the present location for some
time today. The bird is in a shallow bay, can not be approached, is with a
Great Egret and both are feeding well in plain view about 40 me

The Little Egret is currently roosting in a tree on Conroy Island, halfway
across the Ottawa River from Brittania Conservation Area. It was near
Ring-billed Gulls, as well as a Great Egret for a while, for a great size

Some people have questioned whether there might be 2 birds. This bird has very
short (2 or 3 inch) plumes on the head that are not visible unless bird bends
its head way down. Last weeks bird had plumes at least 1 foot long. I suspect a
loss or moult of the plumes. 2 birds seems very unlikely to

Directions: If you are coming from southern
The Little Egret was still present when I left at 7 p.m.Directions: If
approaching Ottawa from hwy 416 turn west on hwy 417 in Ottawa. Take Hwy. 417
west to the Carp Road exit and go north on Carp Rd. Follow Carp Rd north to the
village of Carp. Just south of Carp, after crossing the Carp Riv
Here are good directions, provided by Gordon Payne. Exit off of 417
(Trans-Canada) at March Rd. (CR 49) and go north-east. Take the 3rd left onto
Carp Rd. (CR 5). First right (after crossing the bridge) is Rivington.
