The pelicans flew west at 9:53. David Worthington, Karl Jennewen and I have

Luc Fazio called to say that he just refound the Tufted Duck in a small flock
of about 50 scaup off Elmwood. This is east of Hurontario. So it’s still
around. The main flock of scaup has been off Ben Machree the last few days.

We can now see that this is a first summer Black-legged Kittiwake. Earlier it
was sleeping, poor angle and not in good light. Now it's perched on one of the

We have the adult Black-headed Gull at Niagara first spotted by Willie D'Anna.
It's flying around. Difficult to pick out but look for dark underwing and red
bill. Many Bonaparte's also resting. Aerocar viewing platform. Happy Birdy New
Year Everyone.

Both at Whirlpool. The first winter Little Gull does not have a black collar
but has a black cap. Also smaller than Bonaparte's Gulls. We're still looking

Andrew Keaveney just refound the Lark Sparrow. Best to park on Villiers south
of Lake Shore off Don Roadway. It's closer to Don Roadway than Carlaw. It's

44 Whimbrel, 3 Willets, 3 White-rumped Sandpipers here now.
Earlier, a Peregrine went through at about 3:45 and flushed everything out of
the shorebird cell. Birds are trickling back including Whimbrel, Willets,
White-rumps, Black-bellied Plovers, Short-billed Dowitchers and lots more.

On the weekend, Common Redpolls were reported at Tommy Thompson Park (Leslie
Street Spit) in Toronto and near Rochester, New York, across Lake Ontario.
Today, Pascal Cote reported 15,790 redpolls passing the Tadoussac Bird
Observatory, 212 km northeast of Quebec City. This is the largest movement
time: 7.5 hours

Hudsonian Godwit. No Cackling Geese so far One Snow Goose. All seen from the
hawk watch at south platform.

25 Cackling Geese flew out to Lake Ontario and 32 remain in the marsh. Also 1
juvenile Hudsonian is directly out from south platform with 1 American
Golden-Plovers and 1 Black-bellied Plover, many yellowlegs.
Cranberry is off Halls Road south of Victoria in Whitby.
