Mine love Animal crackers . . .. all I have to do is shake the bag and they
all come running! So easy to get them to go where you want when they're
mobbing you for a cookie! Although, not always easy to GET where you want
when you're surrounded! LOL!

Hi,
I didn't read all the posts, so sorry if this is a repeat, but her bag may
be very sore - you might want to milk out some of the milk and ease the
pressure on her bag and then she may let the baby suck.

Have you tried giving him some Coccidiosis medicine or antibiotics in case
there is a chronic infection causing the scours?
How about some Probios to help his digestion?
We had one ewe that did this periodically, we treated with anitboitics
whenever she got them and eventually they stopped,
Just my 2 cents on wormers . I have found safeguard to be as effective as
WATER in worming sheep (in other words NOT!). I would suggest, if that is
the problem with Sally, that you use Cydectin drench instead of safeguard. I
do agree that an injectable is in order and switching between 2
The problem with these is you don't know which ones are eating it and which
aren't - some will not touch these blocks while others may eat it until they
pop, so some get some wormer and others get none - that's the same with the
safeguard pellets, some will eat them and some won't.

What does OPP stand for?

That is great news ! Do you know why they recommended using the POUR ON as
a drench rather than simply using the DRENCH?

Have you wormed your sheep? If not, then I would suggest using either
Cydectin or Ivomec (I have had no luck with Safegaurd, it's a waste of time
and money). This should be done immediately and may need to be repeated in
2 weeks and then on a regular basis. Giving them an Iron supplement and
Hi,
We wormed our sheep with Cydectin in January and our ewes dropped lambs in
Feb and March with no problems. I don't recall seeing any warning on our
package about bred ewes - we didn't have any problem. Do not use on lambs
younger than 3 months - for them we use ivomec drench.
I would say
If it is pink eye the BEST thing for that is a trick I learned on this list
- washing morning and night with a solution of warm water and Johnson's baby
shampoo . You should really wash their whole face and really scrub their
eyes then put the terrimyacin (sp) oinment in them. I had a bad
I understand not wanting to give shots, but if you give one very small shot
of Gallamycin it will clear up the upper resp. infection - usually it only
takes one small shot, sometimes 2 if they are really bad. It's the best
medicine I've seen for clearing upper resp infections.

We haven't had a problem with lamb thieves ourselves, but one of our
neighbors had 5 lambs AND the dog protecting them stolen!
On our drive way we have a driveway alarm that sends an alarm to the
receiver in the house with motion. The brand is The Reporter (don't get a

I should also add that the cheapest place we found to get this driveway
alarm was Radio Shack; it ran about $70.

Hi,
I have a friend with a dog that had both a vomiting and Diarrhea problem
(intermittent, as you have) and the vet finally took the dog off all dog
food, my friend now feeds him strictly ground lamb and rice (cooked) and
that has cleared this problem up. I don't know if he had fevers or not,
Ok, maybe I missed some of this thread, but I also thought that is how the
DE worked as a wormer, can you elaborate on how it does work, then?

Thanks for the info - Is the food grade like the kind they use in pools -
very powdery and dry? How do you get them to eat that? My sheep won't eat
a piece of corn that touches the ground or has a speck of dirt near it in
the feeder - not sure how I'd get them to eat that. I wonder if putting
I've always just held the rams by the horns while someone else trims the
hoofs, standing up, like a horse. If I have to do it myself, I run a rope
through the horns and tie him up by them in a corner so I can push him
against a fence on one side to hold him still and then proceed to trim,

We had quite a few of our ewes have singles this time that normally have
twins or triplets. We attributed it to how quickly they bred back after the
last lambing - most still had lambs on them when they bred back.

I haven't had that exact problem but have had weak lambs with very stiff
joints that wouldn't want to try to stand. We would work with them, moving
the joints slowly until they would get full range of motion and also
massaging the muscles of the back, hips and thighs and helping them stand up

We use goat/sheep wire on the perimeter of the property but electric fence
within the perimeter to make different pastures and keep them off our garden

even if doused with water, just went right under it. We even doused
I had one of these emails not too long ago, they were very specific and
wanted ewe lambs only. Then they told me they were somewhere in the
mid-west, I'm in Florida. Right then that said this is a scam, the next
email they started with the 'I'll send more money than the cost of the sheep

I would post here as I have lots of dorper/katahdin cross lambs available.

Most of my ram lambs are trying to 'breed' before they are weaned from their
mothers! They get really serious about it (and actually start to figure out
what they are doing and who they should be after) at about 3-4 months. I
usually don't keep them longer than that, though.
I let my Ram stay
Mark is 100% right - something scared them in or near the pen - give them
some time and patience, they should calm back down and come back in to eat.
Definitely don't chase them, just let them come to you.

Mine love COOKIES - I usually get cheap oatmeal cookies - they hear that bag
rattle and there's no stopping them. It's the easiest way to move them from
one pasture to another or get them to go where they don't want, just rattle
the bag and here they come running! We also use cookies as a way to
I don't know if it's true or not, but many sites say the DE you buy for the
pool filters doesn't work the same as the 'nursery' or food grade DE. It
may just be hype from the people that want you to buy the expensive DE, I
don't know.
I have also read somewhere that DE does not hurt Earthworms
We have bat boxes and the bats usually come in the spring but only stay here
long enough to have babies, then they move on, I presume further north

as quickly as the few blades of grass that were left on my pastures.
