Hello,
Here in the office I have FrameMaker 6 installed on all Solaris
workstations. I want to log to one of them from my RH PC, run
FrameMaker on the workstation and see/use it on my Linux screen.
I have tried telnet, rlogin, etc

Although I don't use it anymore, I did need to use FrameMaker
at my former job. The symptom that you describe was duplicated because
Frame on Solaris could not support 16-bit color (in my case).
At higher (or lower) color depth it was ok.
FYI, this is the conclusion of the story. Any comment/explanation/
further trick arer appreciated, as I confess I don't understand
completely why the solution below works.
It works, however.
Thanks to everybody.
Marco
internally maps everything to 24 bit then renders it out in
the actual bit depth of the server.
Thanks for the explanation!

I didn't know about openbox. In the office I have stock RH 7.2, which

Ach, I didn't think about it at all... :-(
I'll try it monday, it would really solve it for good!

Well... you COULD try to press ALT+F(2-6) to see if they've configured GDM
to run on all the terminals (Since this tends to be quite tricky, there's
high probability that they haven't), in which circumstance you should just
be able to login via text console, then run startx as per
