I will note that GraphicsMagick seems to be more popular in terms of
security vulnerabilities. If we were to move to it, we'd have to lookout
for IM/GM security issues much more closely.

Note that every IM6.x release that is made is security related, with CVEs
often assigned later on, although several distros upgrade ASAP. I know that
we don't have the manpower to update to it every time a new release is
made, but we need to pay closer attention now.

If anything recent comes up with regards to IM6 on oss-security, I'll let
people know about it.

Interesting. It does seem worth considering.

We had a note in the book:

The ImageMagick source releases are updated frequently and the version
shown above may no longer be available from the download locations. You
can download a more recent version and use the existing BLFS instructions
to install it. Chances are that it will work just fine, but this has not
been tested by the BLFS team. If the package version shown above is not
available from the locations shown above, or from the legacy/ directory at
ftp.ImageMagick.org/pub/ImageMagick you can download it from the BLFS
package server at ftp://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/blfs/conglomeration/ImageMagick/.

It looks like we need to put that back into the book.

One might wish to consider including in the book an alternative:

Sounds very interesting. Can it be used as a drop-in replacement of
imagemagick, e.g. will my convert scripts still work? I mainly use
imagemagick's convert, actually exclusively, thinking about it.

Thanks Bruce. Now that you mention the note, I remember reading it before.
