Re: [blind-gamers] [BlindTlk] To any gamers on this list (fwd)

2021-08-27 Thread Tyler Zahnke
Not enough documentation, and sometimes the game felt like a virus; I
couldn't close the game, I had to go into the task manager and kill it
to stop playing. I'm sure there's a way to stop it, but the
documentation is not much; the entire readme file was in the email and
on the download link, and that's all the documentation we get. Other
than that, I feel like there's a good concept here.

Re: [blind-gamers] Looking for QA testers for Sable

2020-04-17 Thread Tyler Zahnke
Yeah, the "contact us" links on websites used to be mailto URL's, but
they have since been replaced with contact forms. In fact, at one
time, form submissions went to a mailto link but then people started
preferring server-side scripts. So yeah, mailto appears every now and
then, but there are more obscure protocols; ever seen a link that
started with ftp? I wouldn't be surprised if there were FTP servers
before there were HTTP (web) servers.

This isn't a problem in most programs; word processors, web browsers,
or audio games that use a browser engine like Oriol Gomez, but how
come in typical audio games (like those made by L-Works), the enter
key near the number pad doesn't work? You know, the long enter key to
the right of the dot key on the number pad. I guess it's just that my
regular enter key (to the right of apostrophe) doesn't work right now
and I have to wait an extra month or two for this USB keyboard thanks
to the current situation, so I stopped gaming for a while, but it got
me thinking, why do those games only respond to the regular enter key
and not the num pad enter key? Is there a way to change that, so the
num pad enter key always does what enter is supposed to do? I mean, it
does it in every other situation; typing documents, clicking links in
a web browser; just not certain oddly specific programs like typical
audio games

Re: [blind-gamers] judgement day question

2020-04-09 Thread Tyler Zahnke
The more trophies you get, the more minigames you get. There's a
trophy for making everything explode by pressing backspace during the
game, there's a trophy for having really good accuracy (about 75%),
there's a trophy for having bad accuracy (15%), there's one for just
leaving it on the main menu for five minutes, one for beating each
difficulty level; the more you unlock, the more minigames you get, and
then you get even more trophies by playing those minigames.

They do for me, but that's because my processor can handle 32-bit apps
as well as the 64-bit apps; Jim's games are of course 32-bit. I know
on one computer I had they didn't work, but then I ran the Winkit, it
installed cirtain ActiveX stuff so they worked. The kit comes with the
complete game set.

For me, it only works with the screen reader on, and you do a left
mouse clip when he talks about the human ear; the first thing he talks
about is the heart, then he talks about nine or ten other things with
each press of enter, and when you finally get to a line like, "Our
Father who aren't in heaven, this is not a stone, this is a human ear!
Only a demon could do this!" you use left mouse button instead of
enter.

Re: [blind-gamers] Inquisitor Audiogames Available for FREE

2019-09-06 Thread Tyler Zahnke
I got as far as the corpse, and I read a walkthrough for the video
game version that said you have to click on all the corpse and click
the ear twice, but I don't know how to do that with the
keyboard/audiogame mode! Yes, I made it all the way out, got the book,
got to everybody, got my power and finally took off on my mission, but
now I'm on this plagued corpse!

In some cases it is typical. 403 means a file is forbidden. Well,
maybe they don't want the public to access it while they are busy
editing, so it's forbidden right now.

Re: [blind-gamers] V G Storm gone?

2019-08-31 Thread Tyler Zahnke
It looks like it's going through a huge update! A few hours ago, it
just said network error, like the site just plain didn't exist. But
now it shows a blank template from some web software like Enginex or
something. The 403 error comes up if you type www.vgstorm.com, but
vgstorm.com without the www has the blank Enginex template; so it
doesn't look like they're gone; it looks like they are completely
redesigning the site and soon it will reappear.

Re: [blind-gamers] remembering Jim kitchen

2019-08-03 Thread Tyler Zahnke
Yes. I will remember him and his games more than any other commercial
developer or even mainstream video games! Jim Kitchen was a true
genius; I enjoyed everything from his Battleship game to his Casino
collection; I always make sure that my computer has an uncut copy of
the Jim Kitchen collection. I've known people who have a version of
the collection that cuts certain games out, you probably know which
ones; while I understand, I think all of Jim's TTS games were
masterpieces, and there will never be another like him.

[blind-gamers] Is Cheat Engine accessible at all!?

2019-07-03 Thread Tyler Zahnke
Hello, I'm on Windows 10 and I use NVDA, and I'm experimenting with
Cheat Engine. I'm trying to do it with the tutorial right now; you
know, at the beginning of the tutorial it teaches you how to cheat the
tutorial itself in order to move on with the tutorial; well, it says
there's a certain bit of text in the cheat engine, telling me what the
health is and such, but it seems like I can't read that part; maybe
that's where NVDA says unknown! But I've seen blind users on Reddit
use CCheat Engine to try and make their games more accessible/slowed
down to make them easier to keep up with, things like that. But how?
There are these areas in the Cheat Engine that I feel are just plain
inaccessible; I just wanted to experiment with it on some freely
available audiogames like Oh Sh** and such, just to see what odd
results I can get, and I have a feeling that maybe it's not
accessible; but other users are using it just fine, and I've seen
brief references to it on the Audiogames site and several others. How
will I ever find out what values represent what, and what value
represents the amount of time between certain events or the amount of
time a certain powerup lasts or something? Is this program just not
accessible and I need to use a different one?

Yes. I even asked VG Storm about the ending, and (this is kind of a
spoiler but not blatant) they love to give games dark endings. I
haven't bought Manamon yet but I've been told that the ending isn't
exactly Pokémon.

Re: [blind-gamers] the gate, getting through the room of ghosts

2019-05-15 Thread Tyler Zahnke
Well, just so you know, the door in that level is on the left, not the
right. So start heading left and use the sword a lot. You might have
to go back and forth a bit as ghosts from the right will sometimes
catch up to you.

Re: [blind-gamers] Is there an audiogame wiki?

2019-05-05 Thread Tyler Zahnke
I don't know if the group system wiki uses MediaWiki, the same
software that sites like Wikipedia and Ardrana use. So shouldn't we
use a site like Editthis to create a free wiki encyclopedia that uses
a more Wikipedia-like, definitely accessible format?

Are there any audio games that are Star Wars-based? If not, are there

Re: [blind-gamers] The super Liam 2 Alpha has Arrived!

2019-04-01 Thread Tyler Zahnke
That's so nifty! I bet it was built using Twine or something! I've
coded text adventure games by hand, four of them to be exact, three
were in competitions and they all scored badly, but they looked
exactly, and I mean exactly, like something made in Dark Grue! Didn't
learn about Dark Grue until I stopped doing that, though.

[blind-gamers] Jim Kitchen's Monopoly

2019-02-03 Thread Tyler Zahnke
Hello! I was just looking at the picture of a monopoly board available
on Github with a sighted person; this board is Bitcoin/cryptocurrency
themed, and I decided to make a Jim Kitchen Monopoly board that is
identical to this board that you can download pictures of. I was just
wondering, it seems as if certain things can't be modified in an
obvious way, and I was wondering if there was a way I could modify it.
For example, according to the text files that come with the board
picture and card pictures, in this version of the game, you don't call
the rent "rent", you call it a "network fee". Well, is there a
property that I can change so that it calls the rent a network fee for
this board? I mean, I renamed all the properties so that they have
their coin names, I renamed Jail HODL just like in the picture, I
renamed the luxury tax capital gains tax, renamed the houses mining
rigs and the hotels mining farms, just like in the picture ... but I
can't rename rent! But I can rename everything else! Well, at least
using the Monopolyboardmaker program I couldn't rename rent; can I do
it by directly editing the board's text file? And what about all these
community chest and chance cards? Can I write stuff on those so they
look like the ones in the downloadable set pictures/readme files?

[blind-gamers] Judgment Day trophy

2018-12-25 Thread Tyler Zahnke
I was told online, not sure how true it is, that if I tried to load up
the LWorks game Judgment Day any time on Christmas that I would get a
special "jingle bell trophy". My computer knows what day and time it
is, because I use it to check it. I've had this problem before; one
time I wanted to get the 1:20 trophy, but I guess it wasn't set up
quite right so the game didn't see the time. Now, I have that trophy
and I have the 12:13, but it just seems like right now, the game just
doesn't know what day it is, even though my computer does. Does this
trophy actually exist, and what needs to happen so the game will see
the day and time?

Re: [blind-gamers] Hello

2018-11-13 Thread Tyler Zahnke
Yeah, but we found workarounds. For example, Hadron, the artificial
intelligence-based cryptocurrency, is very very accessible, and if
you're willing to trust the Coinbase website, it's 90% accessible for
plain old Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum. As far as a widely
accessible crypto that even non-crypto people love, JSEcoin has very
accessible software. But those graphical interface wallets for
Windows? Those have terrible accessibility! But command-line wallets
and web-based ones, they're pretty nifty! As far as games, I used to
browse agarchive.net for hours and hours! And whenever I found a free
game with accessible wav files, I would always put new wav files in
and make odd mods! I've never published any of my mods, as the legal
status is unknown, though I tend to mod "unsupported" games.

Re: [blind-gamers] Hello

2018-11-13 Thread Tyler Zahnke
Hi, this is Tyler, the blind musician, I love games, and I seem to be
the only person who cares that much Bitcoin technology is very
inaccessible for the blind. I'm finding workarounds though, and I want
to start publishing them on my site! But I hope to make some
blind-accessible video games one day! Yeah; games that sighted people
would enjoy as far as visuals, but they would also feature stereo
effects and other accessible things.

Re: [blind-gamers] could somebody on this list give me the website for the game blood shed

2018-04-29 Thread Tyler Zahnke
Yes I have played it. I see it as a game that doesn't have a positive
ending. If you are really skilled with your weapons, you might get
that background music going as fast as a chattery tape! But
eventually, things will end badly, and if they don't, then you're
really good and you'll just be playing all day. That's all it is; a
survival game that takes place in a world of odd creatures. How did
you discover this game? Sam seems to be one of the slightly more
underground developers in our community.

Re: [blind-gamers] Has GameCredits been used in blind-accessible gamesyet?

2018-03-03 Thread Tyler Zahnke
Yes. The GameCredits coin is similar to bitcoin but it's more obscure
right now, except in gaming circles. And people can buy games with
them, or win in-game achievements, or exchange them either for cash or
other things that can be exchanged for cash, like bitcoin. If you're
really afraid of "schemes", you can always check sites like
CoinTelegraph and CoinSutra, and sites like that love GameCredits
right now.

[blind-gamers] Has GameCredits been used in blind-accessible games yet?

2018-03-03 Thread Tyler Zahnke
Hello! In my payment technology research, I recently discovered
GameCredits (gamecredits.com), which is basically "the gamer's
Bitcoin", with certain features that were specifically designed for
the gaming industry. We see GameCredits used in two different ways
these days; people are using their GameCredits coins to buy popular
games on certain game store apps, and I've also seen GameCredits used
inside a game to reward a player for earning an achievement, or
sometimes in an online multiplayer game, players will tip each other
with GameCredits coins. I was just curious, has GameCredits ever been
used in the blind gaming community in any of those ways; has an
audiogame developer ever allowed people to purchase a game with
GameCredits, has there ever been a game that gives the player
GameCredits for being a scoreboard high-ranker (or for any other
achievement), and have any players of a multiplayer audiogame such as
RedSpot, or even a text-based multiplayer MUD-type game, ever tipped
each other with GameCredits? I just know that a lot of people are
investing like crazy in GameCredits, especially the gamers who happen
to be in the bitcoin community; GameCredits really appeals to them.
And I've seen it used in mainstream video games; the GameCredits app
shows an entire catalogue of games from a few online stores that
accept them; this might even include Steam. But I was wondering how
the audiogame and textgame scene was utilizing GameCredits. Oh, and I
might add, if not GameCredits, what about bitcoin and other bitcoin
spinoffs?

considered getting back into it), and I always wrote them in
JavaScript so that the players don't need to download any extra
software. I'm actually considering writing my next one in Twine, which
apparently compiles to more complex JavaScript; but I'll write it in
Twine, not JS, because Twine is easy, or so it's been said.

My Microsoft Smart Screen does, but I figured out how to get into the
menu and have it ignore the program this one time so I could perform
the setup. I do that if I've known a website for this long; I've known

Re: [blind-gamers] Remembering Jim Kitchen

2017-08-01 Thread Tyler Zahnke
Jim Kitchen's games were some of the first ones I played as well, as
far as games that are still available now; I tried the
gamesforblind.com games many years ago, but now those are nowhere to
be found; I briefly tried some demo versions of PCS Games, but as far
as playing a game and getting hooked on it, it all started with Jim
Kitchen. Championship Baseball was my favorite for a long time, though
Awesome Homer, Homer on a Harley, and Spanker were pretty nifty as
well. Hangman and Trivia kept me playing, and I hope to write a file
for Trivia soon.

Yes, Jim was truly a game developing genius. Techniques that today's
blind game developers usually implement in BGT were done by Jim using
a regular programming language; Visual Basic. I bet that Jim's games
had an impact on people; some games, like Skunk, Snakes and Ladders,
and Yahtzee, were aimed at people of all ages. I bet fans of those
games were shocked when he made games like Dungeon Master, one of the
most explicit games in existence. But I have played all of the games

no glitches, and he has brightened up the personal computers of blind
and visually impaired individuals since the days of MS-DOS. You were a

Re: [blind-gamers] new member to this list

2017-07-03 Thread Tyler Zahnke
Copter Mission, Death on the Road, BeatStar Pro, Bomber Cats, Danger
on the Wheel, F**k That Bird, Hammer of Glory, Insect Therapy,
QuickTap, Rhythm Rage, Run for Your Life, Run From Your Past (those
two are basically the same), Supercube, Thief, Villains from Beyond
(which I believe is just accessible Xevious), and those are just the
currently available games; no longer available from his site, but
floating around the Internet, is the clone of Smack Me; Smack Me was
originally IOS, his was Windows; the Smack Me clone evolved into the
original default pack for BeatStar Pro.

Glad you could join! I remember your games! I really hope that you can
make either some more Windows games or some more updates. Your games
are some of the best in the downloadable audio game scene!
