Re: [blind-gamers] doom or quake accessible?

2022-09-13 Thread Shaun Everiss
Aparently the agrip project was the audioquake mod.
One of the interesting things with that was the development of
different mods as it had a mod engine called qmod.
There was a starwars jedy mod and an overkill game pack I think those
were the main ones.
Multiple arena servers and you were told to buy quake to use it and many did.
But like everything it ran out of juice.
The engine had potential but never got past a certain point.
We know now it was funding but basically things just shut down with
little fanfair.
There were bugs but yeah that.

I remember having high hopes for this Project. I ended up downloading the full version of Quake 1 plus the additional mission packs. I ultimately gave up, though, the primary reason being the incredibly buggy experience I had, especially with the save/restore funcion of the Quake Engine that Project was based upon. mattias, I have the ID folder here from a long time ago - extracted it
from an installation had for quake itself from old sighted days, back
when quake was a lot newer, so, all I do is install audioQuake, and then
replace the contents of it's id1 folder with this one - replaces, or
adds on any of the actual quake licensing files.

This is since still have the .iso disk image of the original windows
version of quake here - it is a total of 44MB itself.

Re: [blind-gamers] doom or quake accessible?

2022-09-13 Thread Shaun Everiss

Yes there was the agrip project and audioquake.

But like a lot of projects it never took off really.

For a while there were a few deathmatch style mods but really I don't
think we really could play it right I never really played it as such.

Doom?

Well shades of doom is similar to the doom game to a point.

Now admittedly the first unmodded game gave you a standard 44 magnum for
all rifles, a disrupter which was some trek torpedo launcher and a laser
pistol which well was interesting.

The mods by locutus one of which made it into the game had you with a
laser rifle which I think came from one of the quake monsters maybe it
was some sort of nail gun or was it a silenced laser or othher rifle and
a blaster.

There was another mod which never got released to sod v2 which started
you with some sort of multi switchable dart rifle at least that is what
it sounded like, a laser blaster and a heavy laser rifle.

You also in place of the biogrenades had some sort of mini rocket deals
but it never got released and while I have it you need sod 1 to use it.

However its worth noting that mod did actually have a biohazzard
containment breach, the toilets were containment walls you could turn
off startrek transporters.
