Re: [BVARC] 2 meter base antenna
Well I think I have it narrowed down to two choices. The G6-270 or the G6-144B. The G6-270 is about 7.5' long is factory tuned with a 4MHz bandwidth. The G6-144B is almost 10' long and will need to be tuned. It has a 2MHz bandwidth. The G6-270 and the G6-144B both show a expected 6dbd gain. Another option is the G3-144 with 3dbd gain and about 7.5 ft long. I have to mount this antenna outdoors, my Attic has radiant barrier and a ton of a/c ducting. I'm thinking the shorter the better because of this. I'm kind of leaning toward the G6-270. It is a good length, has good gain, supposed to not require any tuning and it gives me the option of adding a 440 capable radio in the future. So, is my reasoning sound ? What say ye ? Oh, the radio I will be using is a Yaesu FT-2900R. The Hustler G6-270 is a good antenna but iirc the gain is dbi...2.15db higher than dbd... You must look and compare properly..the G6-270 is a base antenna not mobile...is better quality than the Comets or DiamondsI have used the Comets CX333 since I also run 220...wish Hustler made a triband version Chris WB5ITT On Aug 11, 2017 10:10 AM, "Dwayne Jones via BVARC" wrote: Even the Diamond X30 would do a good job. 4.5 foot tall with 3.0 on VHF and 5.5 on UHF. Re: [BVARC] 2 meter base antenna
I have a Diamond x50a dual band base antenna it is 5.6 feet high. gain 4.5/7.2. I have it up about 30 feet. Can talk simplex over 40 miles. I think I paid about $90.00 2 years ago. I need a 2 meter home base vertical antenna. Not to long because of the dreaded HOA ! Was looking at the Hustler G6-270? I know it's a dual bander but it is supposed to get 6db gain on both bands, is 5/8 wave and is only 7.5 ft long. A little longer is ok. Re: [BVARC] 2 meter base antenna
That's the same antenna I used when mobile, as well from my apartment after I had to give up driving (Placed it on a pizza pan on bar counter top.), bought it same day as licensed, still have it, now in storage in nephew's garage.. I'm now using an ICOM W-32A with a 5/8's 2 meter accessory antenna to get my 5 watts the 35miles to the repeater site, on Mondays I participate, All my equipment still works, but have a sister who is WORSE than an HOA when it comes to erecting antennas.. 73 Howard Bingham KE5APJ -- On 8/10/2017 11:53 PM, Paul Noll via BVARC wrote: I need suggestions !!! Re: [BVARC] 2 meter base antenna
How 'bout a J-pole in the attic? Even though you don't particularly need UHF, a dual band J-pole would make you a little more future proof. The antenna does not require grounding but you can if mounted outside (peace of mind). Length from base to top of longest element is an inch shy of five feet. J-poles are simple and extremely stout. Check videos on YouTube. My 2 cents. Jon KF5TFJ On Thu, Aug 10, 2017 at 11:53 PM, Paul Noll via BVARC wrote: > I need suggestions !!! I need a 2 meter home base vertical antenna.
