A RUSTY BLACKBIRD was at the front feeders at the Lab of Ornithology a few
minutes ago. It is now perched in a tree over the feeders, giving call

A couple of highlights near Montezuma so far today:
NORTHERN SHRIKE now in a tree near the end of Carncross Road.
Three GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE with a flock of Canada and Snow geese
along Rt. 89 just north of 5&20. The whole flock took off a few minutes
after we found them and broke up in

Found on Sunday but absent yesterday, a beautiful 1st cycle THAYER'S GULL
is this morning back on the active pile of the compost at Stevenson Road.
Also present are a 1st cycle GLAUCOUS GULL, possibly up to three ICELAND
GULLS, and at least one 1st cycle LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL. I haven't seen
it
I haven't been able to turn up anything too exciting at Montezuma today,
but I did pick out a white adult ROSS'S GOOSE in with several hundred Snow
Geese at Knox-Marsellus, as well as a group of 11 CACKLING GEESE all
together in Puddlers. The teal was not in evidence when I went through the
No luck trying to refind the Franklin's from Long Point and Aurora, but we
can see a large feeding flock of gulls on the water off Deans Cove on the
west side, so if you are in that area it might be worth stopping in to take
a look.

All four HUDSONIAN GODWITS continue at Montezuma as of a few minutes ago,
first at the southern end then flying to the northern end of Eaton Marsh.
The EURASIAN WIGEON was still out on the main pool along with greater

The bird is still present this morning along the southern shore of Salt
Point, working up and down near the creek but often hard to see.

A BAIRD'S SANDPIPER just circled the spit calling but eventually headed
north up the lake without landing. Otherwise quiet, with the usual two
Semipalmated Plovers and handful of Least Sandpipers on the islands in the
mouth of Salmon Creek. It will undoubtedly be worth checking here later

A KENTUCKY WARBLER found by Luke Seitz at dusk last night near the overlook
at the F.R. Newman Arboretum was seen briefly again this morning, but so

While driving down 13 through town just now (5:30am) I was tempted to go
check on the Pelican at Treman. I was saved the trouble by seeing it up
ahead, soaring over Purity! It circled for a couple of minutes, then headed
off to the south east over the city. It got pretty far but I think it might

by Barkley and Van Doren et al over campus, then headed down Fall Creek

after noon, from Hwy 13 near the Ithaca Airport immediately after leaving
the Lab of O at Sapsucker Woods.
That's all the information I have right now, but
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS. A slightly transitional-plumaged FORSTER'S TERN was
sitting with the dozen Caspian Terns in the same field.
And probably a few more things I'm forgetting. Livia and I are planning on

Not too much new on a quick check of the Wilson Trail North just now. The
mosy interesting bird was a LINCOLN'S SPARROW that sang once at the small
footbridge.
I have tried twice for the campus Clay-colored without success. If anyone
refinds it again, please post!

Stewart Park. Lots of Yellow and Palm warblers around the swan pen.

Gary and I just refound Brad's warbler in the same spot, above the egg

an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, understandably confusing as it foraged high over

towards the BOCES campus, a rather odd and seemingly brushy spot for
this bird. Singing Fox Sparrow and lots of towhees were other highlights
from a quiet and stormy evening.

An adult LITTLE GULL was just on the water off the Mackenzie-Childs bluffs
just north of Aurora. At 855 it took off with a few Bonaparte's and headed
south towards Aurora. Lots of Bonaparte's in Aurora Bay and off Long Point
for it to hang out with.

A WHITE-EYED VIREO was singing from the shrubby area on the right at the
beginning of Towpath Road, Montezuma NWR around 11:00. Unfortunately it
only sang for a couple of minutes before falling silent or moving away and
we were never able to locate it, nor have we heard it again along the rest

The male YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was back at Frank Morlock's feeders this
morning at 1257 No. 1 Rd., Union Springs, just east of Wheeler/Davis Road.
It was sitting above the feeders singing, visited the feeders briefly, then
just flew south witha blackbird flock into the cornfields on the south
it just flew north in the direction of Spring Road.

COMMON GOLDENEYE. This spot also has hosted a surprising number of Redhead
during the past week, but the only one I saw this evening was at Herman
