Tried again for the grebe on the Main Pool this morning, again without
success. I did finally find a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE out on the far
side of the goose flock.
Yesterday picking Livia up from the Syracuse airport we found a well-marked
SNOWY OWL sitting on a snow pile north of the

The rain has made viewing difficult this morning, but with some effort
several of us have done a pretty thorough scan of the main pool, without
success. Six GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were seen near the tower, and a
SHORT-EARED OWL was being harassed by harriers out over the cattails. Duck
A report from eBird just came through of a WESTERN GREBE amongst the
plentiful waterfowl on the main pool of Montezuma around midday today,
presumably viewed from the tower near the visitor center.

Hi all,
Tim Lenz and I just spotted the WESTERN GREBE
far from shore, but visible from the swan pen at Stewart Park. There is
also a woman walking around on the exposed mud with two dogs, leaving very
few other birds to be seen.

To elaborate more on the grebe's position: Tim and I were looking from the

a squat, yellow shed near a break in the trees where the road is visible.

A western grebe is currently swimming around straight out from the swan pen
at Stewart Park. It's actively diving and a little difficult to pick out
initially.

One of the Western Grebes is swimming and diving often between the red
light house and the pilings, headed towards the east shore, seen from
Stewart Park.

I too scanned the southern end of Cayuga Lake around mid-day Tue, using a
telescope, but saw no Western grebe. Several small flocks of Canada geese took
off from the lake and were heading south.
Is it normal for the lake to be so low this time of year?

A WESTERN GREBE was visible far to the northwest from Stewart Park until at least 10:30am. I wasn't sure if I could see a light loral spot. The flank seemed more uniformly gray than I recall from my previous closer sighting from the southwest corner of the lake, and the only whitish part may have

Jay McGowan and I are looking at a Western Grebe at Twin Oaks Campground on

Wow! For what it's worth, I couldn't find the bird at the south end of the

the two RED-THROATED LOONS and five COMMON LOONS.

For what it's worth, Bernie Carr and I spent several hours at the south end of
Cayuga Lake on Sunday afternoon and could not find the Western Grebe. We
looked from what we took to be Hog Hole and could see two Red-throated Loons
close together, and a Common Loon several hundred yards away.
Western Grebe easily found hog hole at 120pm. Still present close in at 144.

Although several of us failed to relocated the WESTERN GREBE this

south of the point, and a male
Did anyone look for the grebe this morning? There are quite a few
