Atlantic Brant flew over the Main Pool heading north, one of the
largest single flocks I've seen in the region. We also watched 2 very
painted adult Sandhill Cranes in the fields south of Carncross Rd. in
Savannah before heading to Syracuse for the afternoon.

I haven't heard any reports from Hawthorn Orchards yet this spring...I plan
to go there tomorrow morning since we had a warm day and expect south winds
over night. It would be great to meet folks there if there is interest.

Hi,
So far this morning, I've seen a pair of Surf Scoters at East Shore
Park, Ithaca, and a male White-winged Scoter at Dryden Lake, Dryden
(here now). More later... check those lakes!

Cayugabirders,
In addition to Jay's Bank Swallow report from up north, I saw one at
the Cornell ponds north of the Ithaca airport in Lansing today. It is
interesting that a few showed up in different places in the Basin
today, as we are still ~2 weeks before the average arrival date.

I saw a pair of Merlins taking amorous dives at each other on the
Dryden side of Sapsucker Woods this afternoon. The male and female

on
Triphammer Rd. It would be neat if the Merlins were nesting in
Sapsucker Woods, as it seems reasonable that they might use native
trees like White Pine instead of the planted Norway spruces of which
urban Merlins in the northeast seem to be rather fond. Keep an eye
out!

Cayugabirders,
I visited Stewart Park this afternoon between 3 and 4:30 and also had
a nice variety of species. While many of my counts are similar to
those Chris et al. made earlier, I did note a few big differences in
the afternoon. These were a big flock of 74 Hooded Mergansers near
the Fall
Cayugabirders,
A new Glaucous Gull (1st cycle) was at the Stevenson Rd. compost
piles in Dryden today. Aside from a few hundred Redhead in the
southeast corner of Cayuga Lake in Ithaca and 2 Snow Geese at Myers
Point in Lansing, things were pretty quiet.

The Greater White-fronted Goose continued this morning at Myers Point
in Lansing. It was initially quite close inside the lighthouse marina
but moved over to Ladoga Point eventually.

I don't have much experience with these birds and don't know what it is for

worth checking out if you are in the area.
