I also enjoyed watching two beautiful Fox Sparrows this morning, kicking up a storm on the soft lawn under a spruce tree.  One found a larve of some sort.  It would whack it on the ground and mash it in its bill, back and forth.  It took several minutes but managed to eat the whole thing.
