Imagine my surprise last night when I spotted a male Ring Neck Pheasant near
the feeders. It’s a new yard bird for me. I got a few pics before he left. I
never expected to see him again. Imagine my surprise this morning when I found
him sitting on a teak table on my front porch! I was unsuc

Much to my surprise, a new yard bird appeared today...a white peacock! I live
in the woods near Myer's Park / Lansing School and if anyone is missing a
peacock in this area, please have them email me. I have never seen or heard a
peacock in the neighborhood.

Yesterday afternoon while I was gardening I heard a strange, intermittent
squawking. I knew it was a bird I had never heard in my yard, but couldn’t
identify it. I walked around under my trees with my binoculars, until I saw

I didn’t think my backyard birding could get any better today, but it did. I
had this single “grackle” hanging around. Eventually I realized it was too
small for a grackle. I thought, Rusty Blackbird? So I looked it up in Sibley
and yes, that’s what I have. It’s a new life list and yard bird
I just had my first ever at home male Indigo Bunting! He was thinking about
going to the feeder. I hope he returns, but he’s probably just passing through.

Just had a first in the yard---a Great Blue Heron. And we don't have a
pond. The biggest squall of the day just passed, having brought a pretty
dense snowfall. The GBH may have become disoriented and just picked a
landing spot with no trees or brush to cause a hazardous landing. This

We had a cheerful and bright (almost neon orange) golden-crowned kinglet today

I added four new yard birds last week and another today: the white-throated
sparrow! It was perched on a tall wooden fence and then foraging in the soil
of my garden. I live downtown near the high school and was so surprised as I've
only seen them in more of an edge of a forest.

I have been out 5 times since the end of February, scanning the southern skies
for migrants of some kind. So far nothing. But today I got a new Yard bird
when I watched a REDHEAD (as in the duck) circling the Firehall 4 times low.
Not sure it was migrating, but it probably thought the extens

Besides being a new yard bird, it is a new computer-room-window bird. I saw

closer to ID it. It was a mature Bald Eagle. Wow! What a thrilling bird.

I'm so excited! For the first time ever, I had a Scarlet Tanager under my

We have two BROWN THRASHERS today, a new yard bird for us. I have not been
sitting and watching steadily today, bit getting some window time here and
there while doing some renovations. Who knows what is out there that we are
missing.

A female WOOD DUCK perched in a couple of my trees near my little stream and
uttered several calls, then finally flew south.
I wish one of my dead trees had a large enough cavity for a nest.
