Subject: Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] OUTVIA INVIA

viazones have always been one of the most misunderstood topics- hence this
email to provide some clarity.

In a nutshell- Invia is always checked (for ARQ and for LRQ) before outvia but
outvia is used more often.

Let's look at an example. Imagine that we have UCM and CME each registered in
their own independent local zone and also a third remote Backbone zone defined
on another gatekeeper. Extension 4XXX is routed to the CME and international
calls (numbers beginning with 011) are routed to the backbone zone.

Config below:

gatekeeper
zone local zoneUCM abc.com
zone local zoneCME abc.com
zone remote BB abc.com 1.1.1.1 1719
zone prefix zoneCME 4...
zone prefix BB 011*
no shut

Let's look at two calls. UCM GK CME and also UCM GK BB. Note - in both
cases zoneUCM is the source zone and zoneCME/BB are the destination zones for
the two calls respectively.

If we add a CUBE to the config we can invoke the CUBE in two ways.

INVIA

gatekeeper
zone local zoneUCM abc.com invia VIAZONE
zone local zoneCME abc.com
zone local VIAZONE abc.com
zone remote BB abc.com 1.1.1.1 1719
zone prefix zoneCME 4...
zone prefix BB 011*
no shut

In this instance the CUBE will be invoked for both types of calls since the
source zone has been configured with an invia command. And in both types of
calls that we are making the source zone is zoneUCM. Note- If we configure
outvia for zoneUCM the CUBE will not be invoked since it is the invia that is
used on source zones.

OUTVIA

With the invia configuration above we invoke CUBE for any call coming from the
UCM zone. We don't care where the call is destined for- as long as the call
comes from zoneUCM we invoke the CUBE. If we only wanted to invoke CUBE for
calls to the backbone (and not for calls from UCM GK CME) then do as
follows:

gatekeeper
zone local zoneUCM abc.com
zone local zoneCME abc.com
zone local VIAZONE abc.com
zone remote BB abc.com 1.1.1.1 1719 outvia VIAZONE
zone prefix zoneCME 4...
zone prefix BB 011*
no shut

For the call UCM GK BB the CUBE is invoked since the destination zone has
been configured with an outvia. For the call UCM GK CME the CUBE is not
invoked since neither the source zone (zoneUCM) nor the destination zone
(zoneCME) has been configured with an invia/outvia.

One last thing to mention- if the source zone has been configured with an invia
AND the destination zone has been configured with an outvia, the invia trumps
the outvia and the outvia is not used (CUBE is not invoked twice).

I need to send the call form local zone to remote zone through CUBE as

what is the correct [zone remote with outvia OR with invia CUBE ] ?

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] MGCP troubleshooting

2012-02-08 Thread Jeferson Guardia
Hi,

What are the techniques most used to perform MGCP troubleshooting?

Yesterday I was doing a lab and had a router with pstn integration, it was
set for a CSS where my phones had visibility and significant digits = 4.
But whenever I would call out from the PSTN, I would get a second dial
tone, I would see the call kicking in thru debug isdn q931 but my phone
would simply not ring. Any ideas how to verify that possible behavior ?
Articles? tech guides?

Thanks,

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Interesting Project

2012-02-08 Thread Emanuel Damasceno
Hello Expert.

First I'd like to say this is not CCIE related. I decided to post it here,
because the majority of us work with voice, and we might help each other.

I received a project a few months ago where I have to upgrade from CUCM
4.1.3 to 8.5. There is no upgrade straight through 8.5. I have to go first
to 7.X and then to 8.5.

This customer has one big structure, where there is 1 CUCM Pub and 5
Subscribers. He also got 6 Gatekeepers and over 5k devices. Needless to say
this customer has thousands of users, route patterns, partitions, CSSs etc.

As I run DMA on the Publisher server, I receive a lot of warnings like the
ones shown below:

*02/01/2012 12:31:49
Warning: Device or DeviceProfile=001ef7297af9 for user=3028541 not found in
the database.
Condition: The Device found in the directory does not exist in the database

Solution: Please verify that the user is associated to a valid device or a
device profile. Please add the mentioned device or device profile through
CCM Admin pages or manually delete this value from the users CCN profile

*That's just one of the thousands I get with the same message. Now, another
couple thousand of these:
*
02/01/2012 12:36:18
Warning: Numplan (NULL) for User 3008935 is invalid. Ignoring the user
Condition: Primary Extension for this user is invalid. It does not exist in
the database

Solution: Please ensure that the user is associated with a valid primary
extension/numplan*

And another couple thousand of these:
*
Row: 4705 SQL error: -746(37129)

Table: PhoneButton 2012-02-01 16:09:22*

So, after a long time waiting for Cisco to give us an idea of how to handle
this (they haven't answered us yet), our customer decided that he wants
everything built from the ground up. I just wanted to ask you guys what
would be the best way to extract over 50k entries. I know I will have to be
using Excel for this, but has anybody ever done this that way? We tried
doing many things, we modified many things, we removed special characters
(that's what cause the 3rd error), but we are always haunted by it. I
installed Visual Studio on Publisher and started tweaking a few entries on
SQL DB, but no luck.

What I need is to remove its DB contents and use Excel to BAT it to CUCM
8.5. We don't have any spare time anymore to try fixing the problem with
CUCM 4.1.3. We already received the UCSs, and I already installed the whole
system in it. It's just waiting for the contents so we can pull the plug on
CUCM 4.1.3 by the end of Feb.

I am throwing the towel because I need to solve this ASAP so I can go back
to my studying. My exam is next month, and this project is my LAST until my
exam... HELP! :)

Thanks in advance*

All I remember is some name with - or _ might not work. You might want to
verify or just remove the device association under this user as well which is
what the error message suggest.

Basically after you try out, you need to run DMA again to see whether that
certain error message goes away for that specific phone/user. I did manually
fix before but that time was for 100+ users before.

That was like 3 to 4 years ago since I encountered this type of issue.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Interesting Project

2012-02-08 Thread Bruno Nonogaki
Hi Emanuel,

I have just talked with Andre Mulato regarding this issue (we worked
together some years ago! hehe).

I have already seen this warnings before when I made an upgrade from 4.2 to
6.1.x, but the DMA could be restored without problems, even with these
warnings. I still have the warnings and errors logs here for that
particular DMA, and I do see the same message as you:

Warning: Numplan (NULL) for User linhara1 is invalid. Ignoring the user
Condition: Primary Extension for this user is invalid. It does not exist in
the database

Solution: Please ensure that the user is associated with a valid primary
extension/numplan

When you generate the tar file, you have a file inside called
DMAResult.txt. Do you have any errors in there?
In mine I have:
Validation = Success with Warnings

So I think the Warnings are not a big deal... maybe you have to fix one or
other thing manually, but you will still be able to import the DMA to the
new system.
Didn't you get an error (not warning)? I can see the only error you got was
that one on FAC table, but I think you have already solved that by removing
special characters, right?

I remember that when I made this upgrade, TAC suggested me to use the DMA
version 6.1.3 or 6.1.5. He said 6.1.2 had a bug and the import would fail.
So maybe it is a bug with the version you are using. Why don't you try to
use 6.1.5 and import it to a CUCM 6.1.x? And then upgrade it to 8.5?

Here are useful links provided by TAC when I made this upgrade:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/dma/6_1_3/dmaug613.html#wp37764

DMA user guide to DMA 6.1.3, but you can follow the exact same steps for
6.1.5:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/dma/6_1_3/dmaug613.html#wp37764

Additional info regarding DMA 6.1.5:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/dma/6_1_5/dma-rel_note-615.html

Hope that helps...

Bruno

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] MVA problem

2012-02-08 Thread datucha123 datucha123
I have the following kind of probem:

I am using SLRG for Mobile Connect calls, so that that calls to users
mobiles are done through local gateway (this is just for test).

Now, the HQ phone has the RDP assinged with RD of his mobile phone.

Now when the BR1 phone calls this HQ phone, so that the mobile phone also
ring, and when the Mobile Phone picks up the call first, then the MoH works
when the mobile is hunged up, on the BR1 phone.

But if the HQ phone has picked up the call first and then made the Send
Calls to Mobile Phone, then the MoH does not work on calling BR1 phone and
instead the ToH is heard when the mobile Phone disconnects.

Also I have noticed that when the Mobile Phone picks up the call faster
then the Desk Phone, the codec negotiated is g711 from BR1 phone to its
local gateway through which the call went out.

But if the Desk Phone at HQ picked up the call first, and then made Send
calls to mobile phone, the codec stays at G729 on BR1 phone, even though
the call is going out throuhg local BR1 gateway where it should use G711.

Ignore whatever the report says. I took a few times already and felt
exactly like you.
Another thing is all the LAB I got looks very passable but I failed because
I run out of time every single time.

For all who taking soon, practice your SPEED. CCIE voice is a speed test.
Don't worry about technology and how to configure. You are fine if you can
answer IPExpert workbook.

But knowing everything still doesn't get you pass. Sound weir!

You need the SPEED to pass.

I dont mean to say I know it all (especially now), but there are areas on
my score card that really shocks me. As I read through the exam, I know
what the questions were requiring (at least I thought I did). For example,
we all know that the topics of DHCP, NTP, VLAN will be in the network
infrastructure area. And what could go wrong in those areas? I mean, if you
dont setup those area correctly, all your subsequence config will has
problem right? But yet, I dont get full marks in those. Similarly the
 gateway area, QoS area etc.

Right now I am pretty lost as to what I can prepare or study on, or at
least how to check my config? I know this sounds really bad (or arrogent)
but I really have no idea as how to confirm the config I did can get the
 full mark in those area.

I guess I am hoping if someone that share their strategy as to how to
confirm their work is good or fulfilled the requirement?

 hope that makes sense?

Hi Datucha,

Now when the BR1 phone calls this HQ phone, so that the mobile phone also
ring, and when the Mobile Phone picks up the call first, then the MoH works
when the mobile is hunged up, on the BR1 phone.

But if the HQ phone has picked up the call first and then made the Send
Calls to Mobile Phone, then the MoH does not work on calling BR1 phone and
instead the ToH is heard when the mobile Phone disconnects.

I suggest to set two different network moh source files. Assign one to RDP
and one to HQ Phone. Then repeat your test scenarios above and lets know
which MoH file is used in each case.

Also, please share the traces regarding the codec part.

Mohammed Al Baqari

It's good to see more Brazilians on the study list. :)

Small world Well, let me explain to you what happens.

It's not about the DMA. I can get the tar file just fine. I tried with
7.0.2, and 7.1.5. Tomorrow I will try what you suggested me, but like I
said, the problem is not the tar file. When we finish it, it gives me the
file with warnings. Thousands of warnings. Ok, I start installing CUCM
7.1.5 just fine, it installs, it goes all the way until the end of the
installation. But instead of finishing, it actually shows me what is in the
picture attached. Every single time, no matter what I do. I will follow
your advice and try that, but I am sick of making DMAs, and when it comes
to that part, it gives me the same error, over and over again.
*
*I've sent the log files to Cisco Systems, and this is the response I got
(btw, my first name is Antonio and I HATE that name lol):*

Antonio,
If you could send me the most diagnostics from the most recent attempt.
Once I have these I will look at them to try and find what exactly is
causing your current issue.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email or call me.

Ok, I removed the engineer's name. But that's not the kind of answer I was
expecting of him. I've sent them over 6 log files of all the errors and
they NEVER gave me a plausible answer. By the way, that is the 3rd engineer
on the case. I am really not dealing with Cisco anymore. I have to go all
over the DB and make an Excel file so I can export. Tomorrow will be my
last attempt on this. I am giving my best, but I don't see any effort from
Cisco to help me out. That's why I posted this here.

Thanks for answering in such detail. I will go over them tomorrow. I still
got my 5 hour study block to face and I just got home (9:20 pm). My exam is
getting closer and I intend to nail it. But I do need to get this problem
out of the way before I can study with peace of mind.

Best regards.

 Hi Emanuel,

I have just talked with Andre Mulato regarding this issue (we worked
 together some years ago! hehe).

I have already seen this warnings before when I made an upgrade from 4.2
to 6.1.x, but the DMA could be restored without problems, even with these
warnings. I still have the warnings and errors logs here for that
particular DMA, and I do see the same message as you:

Warning: Numplan (NULL) for User linhara1 is invalid. Ignoring the user

Condition: Primary Extension for this user is invalid. It does not exist
 in the database

Solution: Please ensure that the user is associated with a valid primary
 extension/numplan

When you generate the tar file, you have a file inside called
DMAResult.txt. Do you have any errors in there?
 In mine I have:
 Validation = Success with Warnings

So I think the Warnings are not a big deal... maybe you have to fix one or
other thing manually, but you will still be able to import the DMA to the
 new system.
Didn't you get an error (not warning)? I can see the only error you got
was that one on FAC table, but I think you have already solved that by
 removing special characters, right?

I remember that when I made this upgrade, TAC suggested me to use the DMA
version 6.1.3 or 6.1.5. He said 6.1.2 had a bug and the import would fail.
So maybe it is a bug with the version you are using. Why don't you try to
use 6.1.5 and import it to a CUCM 6.1.x? And then upgrade it to 8.5?

Here are useful links provided by TAC when I made this upgrade:

 http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/dma/6_1_3/dmaug613.html#wp37764

DMA user guide to DMA 6.1.3, but you can follow the exact same steps for
 6.1.5:

 http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/dma/6_1_3/dmaug613.html#wp37764

 Additional info regarding DMA 6.1.5:

 Hope that helps...

I have seen first error before but can't really remember how to resolved
it. All I remember is some name with - or _ might not work. You might want
to verify or just remove the device association under this user as well
which is what the error message suggest.

Basically after you try out, you need to run DMA again to see whether
that certain error message goes away for that specific phone/user. I did
manually fix before but that time was for 100+ users before.

That was like 3 to 4 years ago since I encountered this type of issue.
Surprising I have done 10 such upgrade, only one customer I encounter
 this.

Hi Emanuel,

Yeah, small world... =) I will private message you later...

Well, I didn't face that issue when I did my upgrade.
Are you using the same IP Address, Subnet Mask, Hostname, when making the
7.1.5 installation? DNS are properly configured?
I have seen these errors just when addind a Subscriber to the cluster, but
never when installing a Publisher...

Maybe the way will be to import everything manually... hehe!
But I really don't remeber if we can export configurations with BAT on 4.x,
just like we do on 7.1.x... And even if you can, you will have a lot of
Excel work to make the import files...

Good luck on your studies! :)

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] No Audio on TEHO calls from H.323 to MGCP Gateways

2012-02-08 Thread CCIEVoiceKP
I'm making TEHO calls from BR1 Router (H323) to HQ (MGCP). The calls
connects and stays connected however there is no audio between the two
endpoints. If I make the call, again TEHO, in the other direction form HQ
to BR1 the call connects and there is audio. If I shut the HQ voice-port
down and force the call out of the Br1 GW the call connects and there is
audio.

I have transcoders registered to CUCM on both gateways, they are in hte
proper MRGs, MRGLs, and Device Pools.

Has anyone ever run into this? I sit the lab on riday and it seems there
is always something that pops up :(

Yep, reloaded the GW, still no luck. It's definitely a codec issue I
changed the Region seting to let HQ and BR1 communicate with g711u and
viola ... works like a charm. I set it back to g729r8 between hq and br1
and no audio.

My voip dial-peers to cucm bith contain voice-class codec 1 ... and that
voice class has both g711u and 729r8

I'm running out of ideas .
