Dear Mike,                At Evotec (a UK site), we gave up using GE to service our GE instruments (!) due to problems with their bureaucracy. Agilent offer service contracts for Aktas that are competitively priced and are a work-alike in our experience. For call-outs, they sub-contract the usual

As a personal touch, I also find Biorad software much more intuitive. This discussion, of course, is similar to comparing car brands - experiences differ. What mystifies me is a need for a service maintenance contract at all. Has hardware become so much less reliable than in the past?

It depends on how your system is configured - primary considerations being tubing length and tubing inner diameter (AKTA can come with at least three different PEEK tube diameters, depending on what you purchased it for). New systems often arrive with at least one tube-change kit (i.e. pre-cut

Hi Jim, If I remember correctly the delay volume from the pumps to the top of the column is roughly 8 ml for Äkta Purifier, Explorer and also Prime. The actual volume from the bottom of the column to the fractionator, or more important from the UV cell to the fractionator depends on the tubing

Hi, Don't forget system losses (friction in the tubing). An empty AKTA prime typically eats up about 0.25 MPa so your maximum is closer to 0.7MPa loss on column. Artem Dear Frank, AKTA prime delivers a max. pressure of 1 MPa. The 24 ml SEC columns can be run at pressures up to 1.5
