Re: SOT: Holy Grail? Hosting?

If you wanna deal with crap like this, CT can help you. They charged us for a
domain name change. It was a bit odd because, WE HAVEN'T CHANGED OUR DOMAIN
NAME! :)

Oh, and when I renewed our SSL cert, they created a new one, and charged us for
both a renewal AND a new one. Now you see one of the reasons I'm moving. :)

Hell Sir,

I have confirmed that the name change was done in error on your account, I
apologize for the inconvience, we are removing this charge from the account and
applying credit for the charge. As for the SSL certification, the Sales
Department can assist you with the questions pertaining to the certificate. I
am forwarding this ticket to the Sales Department to assist you now that we
have resolved the name change issue.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thank you,

x xx

RE: change http://127.0.0.1:8500/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm to http://localhost/administrator/index.cfm

2008-02-17 Thread Dave Watts
Hi: I know it's very basic but I don't know how!
I have installed CF8 for a while and it works fine but I
wonder How I can change my address from
 http://127.0.0.1:8500/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm to
 http://localhost/administrator/index.cfm I mean I change my
default server ro local host istead of the current 127.0.0.1

The name localhost maps to the loopback address 127.0.0.1. So, you can use
this:

http://localhost:8500/...

instead of:

http://127.0.0.1:8500/...

If you want to use a port other than the default 8500, you can either hook
CF to an external web server like Apache or IIS, or you can configure the
JRun web server to listen on 80 instead of 8500:

http://www.adobe.com/support/coldfusion/adv_development/config_builtin_webse
rver/

Unless you have a specific reason for changing this, though, I'd recommend
that you just leave it alone.

Function name capitalization?

I see a lot of CF code being posted using the convention of starting CF

While the CF8 docs continue to use the convention of beginning function

2008-02-17 Thread Mik Muller
I used Viux for many years. VPS for $75/mo up to 30 domains. CF7, Plesk
interface and RDP. Good service -- no extra charges for support of any kind.
All tags enabled.

I am now moving everything to EnterHost. From about $250 for a CF8 dedicated
box (I'm going for the $300 option) with no domain limit. Plesk is $optional. I
prefer RDP anyway.

When we hit the 50 site mark, at $300/mo that puts each site at $6/mo.

My criteria for 'Holy Grail' is: Inexpensive (always important), Multiple
domain names can be served from same hosting and appear to be unique, allows
access to cfobject and other CFC tags, preferably CF8.

In my research the most often come across issue was the multiple domains to
a single hosting account. The few that had it, disabled the cfobject tags
and functions. Except this one: CrystalTech

It's inexpensive (starting at $17/mo), is CF8, has extra domains, only has
cfschedule/cfregistry/cfexecute restricted in their admin (spoke with tech
support for this info). I can't find the kick in the pants. Anyone know
them, or know of them?

Re: Function name capitalization?

2008-02-17 Thread Barney Boisvert
At least with the conventions of the languages I'm familiar with, you
use a lower case first letter on your identifiers, unless the
identifier is a type (class or interface) name. Other identifiers
(local variables, instance variables, functions, methods, etc.)
usually start with a lower-case letter. So you'd have a User CFC,
with a getUsername method.

That's just convention, of course - the language doesn't care. And
with CF's lack of case sensitivity in most cases (though not every
case), it rarely matters. I'd definitely recommend consistent casing,
however.

  cfset onApplicationStart() /
 /cfif

Then you can reset them by adding init=myInitPass into the url.

Re: Function name capitalization?

2008-02-17 Thread Dominic Watson
I always use uppercase on functions and methods, and lowercase on variables.
I think I get this from an old C or C++ language convention. However, I have
never seen any javascript that does anything but lowercase for the first
letter of method names and of course js is case sensitive so it matters.
Programming for the web, I'd guess that was a good convention to stick with
- I just can't kick my old habits ;)

StructKeyExists is faster since it targets a specific variable scope
instead of incrementally searching though all scopes. You should use
structKeyExists unless you are searching for a variable that can be in
multiple scopes.

Inconsistent Variable Names Across Data Sources

2008-02-17 Thread Dawson, Michael
We have several data sources such as Active Directory, home-built
databases and purchased databases. Each of these data sources may have
different conventions for similar data elements.

For example, Active Directory uses givenName and sn. Our main
business system uses FIRST_NAME and LAST_NAME. While another
database may use FirstName and LastName or firstName and
lastName.

Knowing that you can't change the schemas for many common data sources,
do you make any attempt to use consistent variable names in your CFM
pages? In other words, do you alias all of your data elements so that
your CF code only uses one naming convention?

getMetricData(simple_load) range?

Hey all,

I'm looking at getMetricData(simple_load) to do some things in my
code based on where the server load is at.

The docs only say:
http://livedocs.adobe.com/coldfusion/8/htmldocs/functions_e-g_51.html#4989422

simple_load :
Returns an integer value that is computed from the state of the
server's internal queues. Indicates the overall server load.

But there is no mention of the range of values this could possibly be,
which means I'm struggling with how to use it :o(

Anyone used this before, and have any idea what number returned
constitutes a 'high' load vs a 'low' load?

Re: SOT: Holy Grail? Hosting?

2008-02-17 Thread Ricardo Russon
http://www.hostingfuse.com/

An Australian (Perth) Based company. - CF 8, 3 domains default, but you can
add as many as you like.
@ $100(AUD) per year its not bad.

Having said that, their mail server has gone down a few times. - Annoying.
But its still good for the price.
Support is good, i suggest logging a ticket then following it up with a
call.

And while im at it, someone from Adobe isn't doing their job. -
www.webcentral.com.au Australias largest Hosting Provider, is still running
CF 7 (7.0.1 actually)
How about pushing them for the upgrade? Adobe sales team is getting a bit
lax there...

That is damn impressive.

I've been considering a move and this is definitely something to think
about. (I do like CT a lot but they don't provide CF on their dedicated
boxes and I can't really afford an upgrade... then again I don't really NEED
an upgrade either.)

CF Personal sites with them for years. Everything is great, prices, support
etc. but they don't have CF 8 as yet else highly recommended.

Re: FCK Editor Issue

2008-02-17 Thread Bruce Sorge
Well actually I am using Office 2007 at work and of course I totally
forgot that they changed the extension. I will add it to the config
string on Tuesday.

Thanks,

Bruce

stupid i know but make sure you aren't uploading a office 2007 .docx

Last but not least make sure your temp directory that FCK is using has
 write permissions

Not to threadjack (since this doesn't meet the OP's requirements), but
i'll throw out another recommendation for AHP. I pulled the trigger
on their VPS a couple of months ago after being on shared hosting
forever. It's a welcome change.

10GB (the original allocation) might be a bit low, as I ate up about
45% of that in just installing SQL Server, so I'll probably make like
Rick and spring for a few extra gigs.

Greg (the owner) has been nothing but *extremely* helpful since I made
the transition. He made a point of saying that since he doesn't force
his customers into a contract, he has to make sure to work month to
month to ensure their repeat business. He does, and he's got mine.

pan-chromatic resonance, and other highly ambient domains. Arf, she
