Also I am inserting the above tag through cfhtmlhead. My question is if search engine would recognize this meta tag that is inserted into head later in the page. Hi there, the CFHTMLHEAD tag will inject the content into the HEAD section of the HTML before any of it is flushed out to the client, so when a search engine sees the content it will show up in the HEAD section regardless of where in the code you make the call to CFHTMLHEAD. -Justin Scott ~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:352248 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/unsubscribe.cfm

CF Developer Edition on a NAS Drive
Good afternoon everyone, Due to issues with several of our external USB drives we're hoping to purchass a NAS drive next month particularly before one of the external drives goes south on us. We're currently set on the Buffalo Link Station Quad which among other things comes with a built-in Web server. This component includes Apache, PHP, and MYSQL. In addition to addressing our file storage issues I'll finally have a local environment for developing and testing Web sites before they go live. I'll be curious to know if anyone uses ColdFusion on NAS drives particularly the Buffalo drives and how well does it work? If my understanding is correct I believe the developer edition is free. Any resources you can point me to for learning how to get CF installed and running on a NAS drive will also be appreciated. All the best. And I wouldn't get a Buffalo Linkstation for anything beyond personal use. I have a 4-bay Synology that I use at home, and it lets you install software that's been specifically prepared for installation on it, but you can't just install whatever you like, unfortunately. Re: CF Developer Edition on a NAS Drive
+1 to anything Dave says Keep in mind, even a really nice NAS is slower to access than a set of RAID 5/10 - 10k/15k drives. It's going to castrate your machine to some degree. I think you're going to have a very difficult time running CF on the NAS directly - if it's even possible. By comparison, even my 5 year old linksys wireless router is running Apache and PHP - That doesn't mean I'd use it as a public web server. It just wasn't meant to do that. That being said, let us know if you do it and it works. RE: Verity Collections Stalling
Paul: Thanks for the response. I may end up implementing something like this if all else fails but I'd prefer to find the actual cause of the problem to prevent this from happening in the first place instead of responding after the fact. Any ideas what could be causing the collections to stall? Seriously, that solution is what I came up with after spending more time than I'd like to admit to looking at Verity. In the end, I came to the conclusion that the version of Verity baked in to CF simply isn't up to the job of heavy load search queries when it's handling multiple catalogs. I ended up writing the exception handler so that I wasn't caught out with a downed search service simply because Verity lost the plot. By doing what I've done, I haven't had to manually manage the collections in around 5 years. Even the full removal of catalogs and their subsequent rebuild is automated if it escalates to that. One of the weirdest things that Verity does is get its catalogs mixed up... Sometimes you can search against one catalog and verity returns results from a completely different one. Not clever. All our servers are CF8 at the moment and I'm running CF 10 on the dev laptops at the moment with CF8 in staging. As soon as I can get the staging server and production servers over to CF10, I'll dump Verity for Solr in a heartbeat. All my search code and catalog management is wrapped up in a set of objects so I can swap out the low level verity.cfc for a solr.cfc that has the same functions with Solr specific implementations and all the rest will just work. Can't wait. Re: CF Developer Edition on a NAS Drive
Peter, As everyone else seems to be against your choice, I think from a development point of view there is nothing wrong with it. I purchased a Thecus NAS sometime ago, mainly just for file storage, but went and got a few modules written to work on it, namely Jira and Collabnet Subversion and I installed ColdFusion as well. I removed ColdFusion not because it wouldn't run, but my Thecus only has 1gb of ram so it was running low on memory very quickly with those 3 modules. At the end of the day it is up to you, as others have suggested for production or public facing it would not be a good idea, but you have indicated that it is for your development only. So it would be what you choose. Personally I use VirtualBox to create my development server, which backs up to the NAS now, and find that a better solution for development if you have enough memory, as that is cheaper to add to a machine than buying a new machine. -- Regards, Andrew Scott WebSite: http://www.andyscott.id.au/ Google+: http://plus.google.com/113032480415921517411http://plus.google.com/108193156965451149543 On Wed, Aug 22, 2012 at 7:47 AM, Peter Donahue pdonah...@satx.rr.comwrote: Good afternoon everyone, Due to issues with several of our external USB drives we're hoping to purchass a NAS drive next month particularly before one of the external drives goes south on us.
