As others have noted, the #1 plug wire can physically be anywhere on the cap as long as (1) the rotor is set to match and (2) the correct firing order is retained. If memory serves though, the #1 plug wire on the cap is the tower to the left of the point adjustment window as shown in the Chilton's

On the bottom of the switch, right in the middle is a brass button with a spring underneath. Press really hard on the button and pull the knob out as if you were turning on the lights.
