My window project snowballed into a similar paint the topsides and deck after
some of the Plexus came out in big chunks. Those chunks needed to be filled
which needed paint over top which looked way better than the old paint and so
it started...

Was looking for something spooky for Halloween and came across The Boat, a
movie starring Joe Azzopardi. Highly recommended for some mysterious
sailing viewing!

The yard did remove the tank and disposed of the diesel and weird floaty gunk.
I remember taking a picture of it with my phone I suppose through an inspection
port and seeing the dark gunk on the bottom. It was back in September 2017,
just checked. I wouldn’t imagine that it would return in two
Hi,
Any suggestions as to troubleshooting my Yanmar 2GM that cut out on me in rough
seas the other day? It was windy and confused waves near the shore of the
Toronto island. I was motoring out of the channel, rounded into the lake and it
died and wouldn’t restart. This happened a couple years a

Hi,
On my 29-2, there was no topping lift. It has a rigid vang. At the end of a day
sailing, I bring the main halyard back to the mainsail clew and haul up until
the boom is out of head bonking height. Then I snug up the mainsheet so it
won’t swing around. The traveller is off to the starboard
Hi,
I happen to be in need of the gooseneck toggle for my 29-2. The mast was
down for the winter and when I tried to attach the boom yesterday I could
not as the toggle is gone. I assume it was stolen as it was stored in a not
terribly secure boatyard.
As far as I can tell, it is a part number K-
Hi,
I painted the deck on my 29-2 last year. Absolutely massive job. One I likely
wouldn’t take on again. Like any painting project, the preparation aka sanding
is the most important thing. I come from a cabinetmaking background and have
spent plenty of time sanding. I still found this to be a
When I replaced my portlights on my 29-2, I became quite paranoid about the
spray paint attacking the plexiglass and undermining its longevity. I tried
looking at the technical data sheets for various paints like Krylon and found
they contained chemicals that would theoretically harm the plexi.
When I tightened my keel bolts 3 years ago, I also found this discrepancy in
torque values and went with the lower numbers rather than the C&C numbers. I
figured it would do little harm having them lower than too high and also went
with dry as opposed to lubricated. I haven’t checked them since
I ordered a set of Victory LED lights from Boulet Lemelin Yacht in Quebec and
it appears they will fit the existing holes in the stainless brackets. I am
also replacing Aqua Signal 25's. I can't really speak to the quality of them
yet as they are not installed but they were very reasonably price
Hi,
I read about this tip the other day and got to try it today. It was on Paul
Calder's blog on Sailfeed, he's Nigel's son.
I had a number of screw holes in my anchor locker hatch and cockpit seat lid to
pot with epoxy to provide secure holding for the hinge screws.
I drilled out all the ex
We have a 3 year old son and one of his favourite things is the floating pool
toys we have on board. When we anchor, we'll pull out the SS Happy Crab, an
inflatable 4' toy dinghy that we tie to the stern of the boat for him to float
in, while we are nearby swimming in the water. It's also useful
Hi,
I've read the other responses and while it would be best to do the job right,
VHB and 795, and so on, I have had good luck with the 795. I used just 795 to
replace my portlights two years ago and they have held up very well in Toronto
where we get dramatic temperature variations from summer
Hi,
Mast wedges - On my 29-2, there are 6 wooden wedges that go around the entire
perimeter of the mast and fit inside the collar. They are made with a lip that
sits on top of the collar so they can't fall in. They need to be hammered in
and out since they fit quite snug. They are covered with
ine added to allow full hoist. Otherwise

Hi,
Anyone have experience going from wire/rope halyards to all rope? One of my two
wire genoa halyards got twisted around the furler this spring prompting me to
want to replace them.
I gather I have to investigate the mast sheaves to see if they are appropriate
for the job. On the cabin top
Hi,
Wondering what other 29-2 owners have for their bilge pump setups?
I have a manual pump from the cockpit and 2" hose for that. I am thinking
to fasten it with a nylon hose clip to the upper end of the bilge for big
water removal and have the electric one at the lower end. I would like it

I had a similar issue with my 29mk2 with Yanmar 2GM. Turned out it was the
transmission slipping. I suspected my Flexofold prop at first, and eventually
discovered that pushing the shifter hard down helped, before having a mechanic
aboard who immediately recognized it as the transmission. All be
Hi,
I've purchased soundproofing products from Acoustiguard for use in my house and
was happy with them as a supplier. I can't speak specifically to the Barymat
product.
I'm also planning to replace my engine compartment insulation as it is
disintegrating. I was thinking of Roxul AFB at first
Hi,
I've been in the process of getting entirely new upholstery done for my 29-2 as
it was missing most cushions when I got it. Tina Morgan Designs is doing the
work. She does mostly mid-century furniture and seems very skilled. She's only
done a couple of boats before mine FWIW. I supplied her
One more thing. I picked up a curved Japanese rasp that I think would have been
great to have when I was doing the portlights. It cuts smoothly and relatively
easily through cured epoxy and other fillers. The curved shape allows you to
cut say just a raised epoxy filler blob without affecting th
I found that when I removed the plexi, there were three previous adhesives in
place. Two were softish like silicone and there was definitely Plexus as it was
rock hard. I hand sanded things reasonably level, and did the thickened epoxy
to create a flatter surface. I didn't remove all the Plexus
When I replaced my portlights this spring I had planned to follow Don Casey's
article but ended up not using the VHB.
I have had good experience with VHB on a residential installation of steel
panels as a surround for a gas fireplace. The VHB is bonding mild steel to

I used 3/8" acrylic when I did the fixed port lights on my 1983 29-2 this
spring. I adhered them in place with black Dow 795. The 3/8" thickness sits
proud of the cabin side by ~1/8". I used a router to make a 1/8" chamfer all
around the edge (before installing) and then polished it with wet san
Hi,
I posted yesterday about some surface cracks in the hull of my 1983 C&C 29-2
and those are still a concern, however a much bigger issue presented itself.
The mast step is off and I am fabricating an aluminum replacement. I noticed
there is a dip in the fiberglass around the forward keel bol
There is the typical keel/hull crack at the joint. That's a separate matter I
suppose. I hadn't figured out the best practice way of dealing with that yet.
First torque the bolts to spec, open a V groove and fill with 4200, before the

My new to me 1983 29-2 has some fine hairline cracks in various areas on the
hull. I don't know if they extend through the bottom paint or are more
superficial, but they can be felt when you run your hand over them. It is
painted with VC17 and I plan to recoat with that. I'm wondering how to bes
