Just as a final point of clarification, I just emailed Barry Carroll who
tells me that no 44s were built in Rhode Island. Just Landfalls, including
the Landfall 48. Barry ran that plant before establishing his own Carroll
Marine.

Thanks Don,
For some reason the broker told me not to do that now as he has to do that
anyway when he sells the boat, however if doing this now will prove the
boat was built in the US it will save me some money on import fees when I
go to sell.
Thanks again,

Since your boat was once registered in the US as /Rainbow /with a USCG
registration number of 1024202 on Dec 1994 and a HIN of ZCC44001H586 you
could request an "Abstract of a Title" which should provide record of

Thank-you Rob, this explains a lot actually.
My hull is 001 and was made in August 1985 so it could have been made in
either location but it starts with "ZCC" which I'm told means NOTL but
others say that the letters could mean either. Another 44 owner tells me

Are we sure that any 44 were actually built in Rhode Island? The Rhode
Island plant closed in 1985 the same year the 44 came out. It was my
impression that the Rhode Island plant was focussing on the Landfall model
at this time. I left C in 1985, but was involved in the analysis of the

Probably first production boat. If
the first "3" were built in custom shop they may not have had
assigned HINS. Just a thought.

Don,
I highly doubt that my boat is Hull #1. The first 3 C 's were
completely stripped down racers with 8' keels - one of them took home the
Bermuda Cup I think which was one of the selling points I believe.

Thanks everyone! I should be able to work with this information. Going to
make some calls today and check out the USCG website to see if I can either
update my registration to show RI build or to prove the boat was imported
into the US as "Rainbow" - which it was because I have some paperwork
The aluminum plate in the cockpit of my 44 shows it was built in Rhode Island.
It is the 7th one built.
The HIN was removed when painted.

Trying to find out if my 1986 C was made in Canada or the US.
My hull number is:

When I look it up online it tells me the boat was made in Aug. 1985 but not
where it was made.
Thanks so much!

Searching the cncphotoalbum email and archives seems to indicate that HIN's
with ZCC were built in NOTL, Ont. The RI boats used CCY. Not convinced
that's 100% correct but try different searches using:

Hi Dan, not sure if this helps but..some time ago after the factory closed, South Shore Yachts in Toronto collected most of the boat files including something called a "build file".This file was specific to a single boat and was filed by the hull number. They made these files available to
