Yes is do goes through the pedestal down below and across the bottom. I
left the marina awhile go I'll be back in two weeks and I will take some
pictures.

Last page contains instructions for replacing the cables. Important note: do
it like it says in the instructions. It is not intuitive and if you “wing it”
you’ll be
Shifter/throttle cables are available from West Marine. Replace both. Get
one of the old ones out and take it to WM for replacement options. Use the
single remaining cable to fish the 2 new cables in.
In my case I had to remove the compass and pretty well disassemble the top
of the pedestal.
What is the structure of your pedestal? Does the shift cable go through the
pedestal itself, or through stainless tubes running down the outside of the
pedestal and through the pedestal feet? It will make a huge difference.
A photo link would be helpful.
