We had three White-fronted Geese on the north end of Parkfield Lake in
northeast Denver this afternoon.
Parkfield is north of e. 53 Ave. and east of N. Chambers Road and is easily
viewed from the school parking lot.
Also present were 100s of Cackling and Canada Geese (including one white

I visited several spots along the St. Vrain River, Boulder County, yesterday,
Sunday, Nov. 29th.
At first light, I birded along the river in Longmont, finding 2 Wood Ducks, 1
Northern Shrike, 1 Brown Creeper, 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet, and 1 Audubon's
Warbler. The shrike was

Bill Maynard just brought a terrible gaffe to my attention. I wrote that Hannah
and Andrew I observed Type 3 Red Crossbills in Rocky Mountain National Park,
Boulder County, yesterday, Sunday Nov. 29th, but I meant to write Type 5 Red
Crossbills.

Hi All,
Many years ago out at Sawhill ponds I saw a Red-winged Blackbird land on a
cattail that was too weak to support his weight. As the cattail bent toward the
surface of the pond a huge Largemouth Bass came up under it and engulfed the
blackbird! Another interesting fish tale was
Just before sunset today I had a White-winged Scoter and Long-tailed Duck at
Lagerman Reservoir. This morning I dipped on White-winged Scoter and
Long-tailed Duck at McIntosh Lake, and Winter Wren at 63rd and Saint Vrain
River.

Colorado Field Ornithologists:
I headed up early today before work to take a chance at the
crossbills. I arrived at about 8:15 a.m., entering the main gate,
turning south and parking. I no sooner than got out of my car than I
could hear the male crossbill singing. He was in an ash tree, I
believe, with house finches and
Someone asked about Snow Geese. We had them on Windsor Reservoir on Nov. 20
and 21. There were two Snow Geese and also a Blue-Phase. On Nov. 21 about
3:30PM a Bald Eagle began circling and diving at one of the Snow Geese. By the
time I got binoculars the Bald Eagle was in the water and
A 90-year-old woman I play chess with at the Louisville Senior Center saw
about a dozen cranes flying south over Superior about 10 am this morning!
She used to live near Bosque del Apache and is quite sharp. I believe she
saw and heard cranes!

I birded the east end of the Canon City Riverwalk this morning. A small
flock of magpies were acting like they were mobbing something but I failed
to find an owl or snake (didn't look that hard). It was nice to see magpies
here as they are still not recovered from the impacts of West Nile Virus
