Went out to Walden Ponds around 7pm this evening (Saturday May 29) with my
parents from out of town. We strolled around Cottonwood Marsh looking for the
Little Blue Herons, but they were NOT present when we were there. They may

We had a steady stream of birds for the approximately 50 visitors who came out
to enjoy the first day of our last weekend of banding this spring. 29 new, 1
return:

House Wren 2 (that makes 54 new, 8 returns for the season)

I had 8 species of finches and grosbeaks at my yard today, and "1 1/2 species"
of buntings. And, I can add one additional grosbeak in the past week. Today:

Indigo/Lazuli Bunting; one of those nifty male hybrids
Cassin's Finch
House Finch
Red Crossbill

It was a Northern Parula. Both birds were seen about 3 hundred yards
upstream from the parking area.

I went down to the South Mesa Trailhead and birded the Homesead and Towhee
trails for three hours this morning, and my list is posted below. Being
from Louisiana, it's odd to see and hear Yellow-breasted Chat in habitat
like that. Back home, they're really thick in cutover (second-growth pine)

The American Redstarts were located on the west side of the S. Platte River
south of Kingfisher Bridge. The Virginia Rail was in a marshy area to the
north of the bridge on the east side of the river.
