This guy was observed just south of the intersection of 115th St and CO 52
in Boulder County at 1:15 PM Saturday 18 February. In a tree on the west
side of 115th St across from a small private pond.

I'm unsure if its a long-eared or Great Horned.
My husband Tim and I drove up to see the snow geese that Joey Kellner reported
on Feb.5, and yes, there were uncountable snow and Ross's geese, which he
estimated at 9000. On Red Lion SWA there were several hundred white-faced
geese, with 13 greater white-fronted geese mixed in and 10 snow
This morning's soak in the hot tub before and after sunrise had many singing
species in my yard and surrounding area. Many have been singing already
before today, but some are firsts.

Chilly start with fog but after leaving Nunn Cafe things cleared out
and temperatures increased. We tallied 50+ raptors; missing on Bald
Eagle (inside joke) and Long-eared, Short-eared and Snowy
Owls ... :-) ... species seen (multiples of all species except where
indicated):

Male and female being seen now in front of the power plant as viewed from
viewing area. Far away to east of smokestack.

Today we headed to Crow Valley Campground (Pawnee Buttes National
Grasslands) in search of rare birds. At the camp we found:
2 Northern Shrikes
35 American Goldfinches
1 Rough-legged Hawk
1 Red-bellied Woodpecker (off to the left of where the road turns to
dirt)
1 Great-horned Owl
1 Toundsand's

First a couple quick notes on water
McIntosh: Ice Cube, no open water
Loveland: Some open water with some gulls in PM (including two LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULLS)
Ish: Frozen Wasteland
Union: Rather open -- Good numbers of birds including 66 RB Mergansers, 5
Horned Grebes, etc.
Yesterday I birded around the La Junta area to do some surveying for the
Greater Backyard Bird Count in areas poorly covered. I found what I
believe are two Harlan's Hawks at the feedlot near Rocky Ford, a location I
have previously reported here as a good spot for Harlan's. One of the
