Hello All,
Just doing my due diligence to report that the DFO trip to South Platte
Park that was supposed to go out this Saturday has been canceled due to low
attendance (n=1). I'll see about scheduling a similar trip in the fall
when there are more birds and it's not so hot.
Stay cool.

The trip I had planned to lead for DFO to the Nebraska Panhandle has been
cancelled. The forecast is called for snow and very low temperatures, making it
unsafe to drive up there. I hope weather is better for other trips.

Good afternoon.
The forecast is calling for strong wind on the Pawnee tomorrow, so the field

note, Chestnut-collared Longspurs are using CR 114 just east of

It would be interesting to see if it's a localized phenomenon. We have
many Common Nighthawks at the Central Plains Experimental Range (Weld Co.)
right now, and they are quite active even during the middle of the day.
Just yesterday, we paused field work to watch a pair in courtship flight.
Dave,
Thanks for the heads-up. I look forward to seeing the pictures.

During the course of field work at the Central Plains Experimental Range

Oriole sitting on a barbed wire fence. This is highly unusual, as there is
no riparian habitat and very few trees here. Strange times!

Sorry, I assumed the CPER was a well-known spot. It's in Weld County, 10
minutes north of Nunn, just off Hwy 85. Let me know if you'd like a more
precise description. It's about 45 minutes northeast of Ft. Collins and
1.5 hrs north of Denver proper.

Ditto. I bird by sound first, sight second. It behooves all birders with
good hearing to learn the songs and calls of birds, because ID's are
usually faster and more accurate if you are familiar with vocalizations.

location of strangers' feeders. I think in the future that before we
