Action is really picking up in the San Luis Valley.
At Smith Res SWA there was a Neotropic Cormorant, posed on a rock not 100
feet from a much larger Double-crested Cormorant. The Neotropic was about
2/3rds the size of the nearby Double-crested. Bird had the smaller relative
bill and white
Was back roosting on a boom at the marina. It just flew south but I think is
still on the rez. Maybe on the water.

Hi all,
Barr Lake was phenomenal this morning for migrants. I started off below the
dam, which had a Cassin's Vireo, Nashville Warbler, and early Brown Creeper

and Willow Flycatchers, Townsend's Warblers, and throngs of

I may have spoken too soon, I now see orange in the lores which may exclude it
from being a Neotropic. Other than orange lores though, it looks good for Neo.
Do they hybridize? Could that be a possibility?

spreading its wings, it looks like a miniature double-c. More

Hi all,
After a few earlier unsuccessful attempts I finally managed to see the
Neotropic Cormorant that's been seen lately at Timnath Reservoir in
eastern Larimer County. I was quite lucky this morning, as I happened
upon the small, unvegetated lake right next to the county road where
they were
Hi Folks,
Spent a good part of the afternoon searching for the NECO. I got to the area
about 12:30 and at that time there were very few cormorants on the res and none
on the sand spit on the West side of the lake. About 1:45 cormorants started
streaming into the lake in small groups from
Fw: Neotropic Cormorant refound (Larimer)Several observers joined me early this
morning in watching the NECO loafing with about a hundred Double-crested
Cormorants on a spit in the middle of Timnath Res, viewed by scope from the
nascent housing development looking west about a half mile away.
COBirders,
Nick Komar just called and asked me to report that there is a NEOTROPIC
CORMORANT near Timnath Reservoir. The bird was in a small pond right next to
County Line Rd. I believe it was between County Roads 76 and 78. Nick will be
able to post in a while if I got anything wrong.
Cobirders,
At around 9:30 a.m. on 6/1/09, I observed an immature-plumaged Neotropic
Cormorant on the south side of Adobe Creek Reservoir. It was perched on
a low snag in the water at the end of the outlet canal road heading
north from the dam.
I got to observe the small size, slender body,
While doing a Big Day today Bill Kaempfer, John Vanderpoel, Gary
Matthews and Todd Deininger spotted a Neotropic Cormorant on a sand
spit on the east side of Lower Latham Reservoir. There is a oil
gas road (no trespassing) off Weld Co 47 Rd that leads to the spit.
The bird is visible
