Yeah, this one hurts a bit, but you’re right Nathan. Even a small number of
cases of severe COVID-19 could cripple healthcare operations in that REGION.
Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center apparently has only 92 beds and also
acts as a nursing home as well.

I had the Teal Trifecta yesterday at the tiny pond where the Rod and Gun Club
duck blind is at the Arsenal. I took photos but surprisingly the Teals did not
cooperate. They were never together and when two would be near each other only
one would have its head up at a time! The pandemic has
One broad-winged hawk at 16:15, initially readily identifiable and then
soaring above the Flagstaff amphitheatre to a very great height till I
could barely make out its silhouette (with 10x42 binos).

Today while birding at oxbow natural area in Loveland just before the rain
came through (around 3) I had a group of at least 30 Turkey vultures, they
were being fallowed by a lone swainson's hawk that seemed to be part of
"the group" never seen a hawk intermixed with such a large group of Turkey
Highlights today:
White-faced Ibis (2 resting on the quasi-island along the east shore)
Mountain Bluebird (as many as 10 catching midges along the shore, especially on
the boardwalk that skirts the south side of the pool)
Yellow-rumped Warbler (at least 3-4) catching midges
Pied-billed Grebe (1,
I had a similar experience down at Platte Canyon Reservoir, 2 Osprey, 2

All the Teal talk reminds me of the day I got Green-winged Teal,
Blue-winged Teal, and Cinnamon Teal at Rigden Reservoir in one day. They
were admittedly all in separate bodies of water (the Green-winged were in a
pond across the east railroad tracks, the Blue-winged were in the NE corner

Hi Birders,
I saw 27 White-faced Ibis at Marston reservoir around 3pm ,on 4/18. Saw them
from the east side of of Bow Mar Dr. Several of the birds were pretty hidden
by others and I could not see some of their legs or faces. Who knows if a
Glossy was hidden in the group because I had to keep
I too had a Teal trifecta (BW, GW, Cinnamon) at Robert Easton Park in
Littleton (SW Jeffco County) today! I enjoyed the trifecta post
tremendously, and probably wouldn't have taken notice if not for that. I
hadn't been to this park before, but it's in my county so I thought I'd
give it a try.
All,
The aforementioned Glossy Ibis may have some WFIB genetics in it. Take a
look at my photos here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S67418983. Some photos
show a slight pinkish tinge in the face. I have no experience with hybrid
Ibis, so input is welcome!

Karl,
Lucky you!
As I said in my OP, I probably wouldn’t have seen this unless COVID-restrained!
Unrelated to teal, the same afternoon yielded VIRA (as a county bird).
Moral of story . . . spend more time in your “backyard”!

What an incredible experience to witness the raptor migration today! Great
that you caught it too, Christian. I was wondering if the dark clouds down by
NCAR had, as you put it, “shut off the tap.” Over by Mt Sanitas the flow
dramatically lessened about 2:15, with a few stragglers until
I've had that phenomenon many times, same place. Green-wings come in first in
the spring, leave last in the fall.
About thirty years ago I had the famous garganey at Sombrero Marsh. Those
teal were also there. I have a good picture (somewhere, probably could find
it) of a lateral view
COBirders,
I can’t remember seeing all three teals (BW, GW & Cinnamon) in the same body of
water at the same time. Today, in one of the Cottonwood Creek Ponds, I got
lucky.
I will say that, if it hadn’t been for COVID, I might have wandered a bit
further afield (while still staying in
All,
I found a Glossy Ibis in the flooded field leading into Clear Springs Ranch in
El Paso County today (4/18/20). It was associating with about 2 doze
White-faced Ibis. Several birders were present and will attach photos to eBird
checklist. My back of camera pics are on the Colorado Rare
There are 5 Curlews here now, same place.

Have now had one Peregrine, one Prairie Falcon, and one Am Kestrel within the
last hour over my yard. The Kestrel is most likely a resident. Both of the
larger falcons were heading directly north along the Dakota Ridge.
Seeing another BW Hawk south along Mt Sanitas right now, but could be

Just had an Osprey, 3 Broad-winged Hawks, and group of 6 Turkey Vultures over
