I also really like the script! Sounds great. The idea of some ads for the
openmoko is great. The question is, whether there is someone who will pay
that. FIC? Or do you want to show them on youtube and other free platforms

I think youtube is a very good means to spread some adverts..
Why not try it that way?
A lot of people/products have been promoted that way :)

Hello together,
I really like the Neo. The software will be perfect, im sure. But there is
something about the hardware I dislike. Why is there no d-pad? Because many
people do not need one. Okay, but the Neo could be the perfect gaming mobile
phone. 3D acceleration, accelerometer, a rounded

It's already on the wishlist. I like the idea a lot.

Thanks for your answers.
Don't know what I will do. Could be missing great hardware improvements if I
buy too early, but I would be missing a couple of months of excitement as well.
Tough choice :)
Will wait for the official announcements, and decide after that.

Make that four buttons so it can work as a second d-pad. That works really
well on the Zodiac, DS and GP2X. Also four shoulder buttons would be nice,
one for every corner. Would make it very flexible and great for 2 players on
one device games.

Why wouldn't it be so easy? Take a d-pad and four buttons, make some holes
in the top case and connect the buttons with the board. Where is the
difficulty?

Cool idea. I think we should get the press machine turning on the inside,
and then set it loose when the Phase 2 is released and ready for prime time.

But there is a redesign of the board for the accelerometers, the wifi, and

the top case. So if you want to play games, you just take the top case and
the back case, remove them, take the new gaming cases, add them. The
Wow, awesome ideads. I really like both scripts! So what could be the
advantages of the OpenMoko vs. iPhone. I could imagine:
* the resolution 640*480 vs. 320*480
* the GPS
* the price
* the replaceble battery
* the open OS and apps (so important that we need the most ads targeting on
this imho)
I believe the real issue is that retooling (changing the phone
enclosure) is extremely expensive. So it's not adding the connector,
it's modifying the case to fit.
Also, do we know that they're modifying the motherboard to add extra
features for the public release, or are there simply spaces

Ok, that sounds not really good... Probably it is more difficult than I
thougt... But what would be with an expansion back and top as described in
the hardware wishlist? I would be sad to have a phone with open software but
without the possibility to modify the hardware. Probably I would like to
do it then. i'm sure you could prototype a case and buttons using one
of those 3D printer things (rapid prototypers i think they're called).
then you could market the design on ponoko or somewhere similar. when
you get enough interest, pay for a production run in polystyrene or
whatever, and flog

Neo: Oh, that doesn't seem to be very exciting. I use GPS for that kind of
stuff.
Sure -- building your own case is a definite option. Modifying the
motherboard yourself isn't a practical option (I say that from the
perspective of somebody who has successfully soldered a couple of SMT
components by hand), but there are some unused connectors on there --
in particular an I2C,
yes, great idea. i'm sure it could be hosted on openmoko - drawings

That was exactly the example one of the german developer used to explain the

There was talk about an European distributor. Will that be a coordinated

Kind of OT, but on the GPS thought... one thing it could do is map WiFi
hotspots to GPS coordinates automatically as you walk / drive around. That
way, for example, you could solve that problem of not being able to easily
find WiFi hotspots (which is the big thing against WiFi right now), since
