It should be possible but it would require a lot of work.

First of all - as far as i know Debian prefers native compiling. Compiling on
the device takes a lot of time (days?) if it's even possible. Our build system
if targeted for cross compiling.

Second problem could be QT. I dont know if the QT in debian supports running
on framebuffer. Now we bundle framebuffer enabled QT with Qtopia. This works
quite good because the QT is at fixed version which we know that it works.
Running with older/newer QT's need to be tested and any old/new bugs in those
QT version have to be fixed.

So the answer is - yes, it should be possible, but it's unlikely to happen
unless someone with good skills and a lot of time jumps in.

But it's not exactly what I need. Keys of that keyboard are not

I tried illume2 when it first came out and it shows promise but was
quite broken - keyboard issues and window nesting(wrong/lost focus)
amongst various things so it was suggested not to use it. There have
been a lot of updates since then so I am not sure of current status
(shr-t or shr-u)

Perhaps someone who knows can comment?

So can I push the recipe for 0.6 as is and then improve it with next
version? I would like to.. as I'm leaving tomorrow for few days..

And it's pretty simple
http://paste.pocoo.org/show/196533/

but those 'cp' aren't good practise as you cannot easily adjust ie file
permissions as install call does..

I never used ipkg-build manually, I guess that CONTROL is only temporary
file and CONTROL/control is what is packed in .ipk as control, so the
same.. but as I said before, I never used it manualy and I'm not .ipk

Thanks for being clear here. I thought long

Probably the bitbake recipe is more complicated
than the ipk it creates, but I guess that doesnt
matter on your side - you need the recipe, not
the bread.

For now, I'll try hosting the ipkg myself;
based on the one you created.

the ipkg described by QTopia
http://qtextended.org/modules/developers/qtopia.php?linkFile=developers/IPKG_Howto

TclFltk 1.0.195 Released for Openmoko Phones

A new release of this GUI development environment has been placed on the
sourceforge site. This release cleans up a lot of minor bugs, runs
somewhat faster, implements sound feedback for actions on the touch
sensitive screen, and implements an additional rendering scheme that
delivers a gtk like appearance to applications.

I have also put a couple of demo applications, an image viewer and an
accelerometer application, that
have been updated to use sound feedback and some other functional
improvements.

See http://sourceforge.net/projects/fltkwish for the list of files and

The simple reason is that I've been quite busy lately and never found the time
to update it. Moreover, as the version on my phone is working quite well, and
as my neo became my primary phone, I feel less like messing with my phone.

The other reason is that the script to build the packages is really a peace of
crap. It's only unziping the binary archive to repackage it in a debian
package. I tried to make proper debian package from source but I never got it
working.

I created the package for the v19 but I have absolutely no time to test it
before the WE. I hope it will not break your phone. Don't forget to backup
your data before updating. The url for testing is .
Any feedback (good or bad) would be appreciated.
I will test the update myself over the WE and move the packages to
 if everything is fine.

PS: I will be more than happy to see qtmoko in the standard debian tree.
However one as to create real packages building from source to see it
happening.

Fatfingershell.

But as the name implies, that's a shell.

Obviously, if there is screen interactivity
allowed in the application where you'd need
the keyboard (I mean, if it has buttons), you'll
have problems overlaying it with a transparent
keyboard.

Which can be solved. I'm curious what you
have in mind. Yes, I'd love it.

there was literki which was a similar approach and I loved it.
However, there was some illume bug that prevented to open any
application in fullscreen. Thats why I stopped using it. So if u
manage to overcome that issues I would be pleased to use that :p

Maybe u can take a look at literki to grab some ideas or go on
extending that one instead of building one from scratch.

fullscreen transparent keyboard

2010-04-01 Thread Chuck Norris
I think it would be nice to have fullscreen transparent keyboard instead
of small keyboard in the bottom that eats screen space. So anybody know
application that fit my needs? I googled... but found nothing
interesting. I've begun developing my own virtual keyboard. I've created
sample gtk application - transparent window with one button that sends
"a" to X. Will my keyboard be useful for anybody if I'll continue

if you (qtmoko devs) tell me which is the right path to follow or
better if you can give an initial script to generate the .deb package
I could do this for you.
btw... if possible, why not include qtmoko in real debian tree? (like fso do?)

Additionally it would be great if MCNavi would read Cloudmade's maps

Yes, it is compatible with 2.90, just uncomment in mgps.h

bitbake recipe is "build description" which instructs bitbake how to
create correct .ipk or .dep or .rpm or whatever from "source archive".

In thone case it's "repackaging" your scripts.

In case you relase newer version, recipe update is task for few sec.
Than all shr users get updated version with opkg upgrade (which they
have to check and download manually in case your .tgz).

Thanks. It looks much faster and nicer then what I've tried so far.
It's too soon to talk about how stable it is.

Last night it just keep charging. It was on 100%, so I just unplug it.
In the morning, when I connected the charger, it booted (?!). I
checked the battery level and it was 4%. Next time I'll try to use
Cleanoid to see if it still drain the battery.

I'm not going to host that .ipk.. but add recipe to shr and it will be
in SHR feeds as any other app :). If you want to reuse it for other
distributions, feel free to add link to shr feeds or redistribute it
from googlecode.

I'll update recipe to 0.6 and add it to feed (probably today).

it's 'ar', ar -x would do right magic

With makefile it would be easier to install files to other locations
easily (like readme to /usr/share/doc) etc.. but it's not a big issue so
if you don't see the need, OK :).

OK

BTW: in 0.5
* updating sms.cache..
/org/freesmartphone/PIM/Messages/Query: Query failed:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Python.AttributeError

is it something fixed in 0.6 already? (I'll try in few minutes..)

Thanks!
