Re: Boot Partition Selection
I formatted another drive and used used System Picker to change between system folders from different partitions and it worked. I'm not exactly sure what was fixed in the process, since I used the same formatting tool with the other drive I formatted. Thanks, tt -- Compact Macs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/. System Picker, like a fresh install sets its prefs in pram, I'd suggest this pref was corrupted by the first use of system picker which stuffs up the startup disk cp also. The fresh install over rode this preference giving you a clean slate again. Check how many blessed sys folders you have now its working. Careful when entring unblessed sys folders else you'll find you have the same trouble over again. Cheers. -- Compact Macs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/. Re: Boot Partition Selection
I have used Silverlining since 1993 to format drives. Every time I have had success with booting from different partitions (I used to keep 6.0.8 on one and 7.1 on another on an SE/30 I had for a while). The software was bundled with a LaCie I picked up in September 1993 (a whopping 160MB external!) and I'm not sure where to find it these days. Of course, I could find my disks and upload it for anyone who needs it. My guess is the drive needs reformatted. Even Apple HD SC Setup has enabled me to boot from multiple partitions. Re: Boot Partition Selection
Date: Mon, 19 Dec 2005 15:47:11 -0700 From: Thomas [EMAIL PROTECTED] I installed a larger hard drive in my SE/30 and made a few partitions to be able to boot different OS versions, but I'm having difficulting specifying which volume to boot from. I used the startup disk control panel to select the partition I wanted to boot, and then when I open the control panel again to confirm it made the selection, it shows all the partitions as being selected. When I reboot, the first partition always boots no matter which partition I choose. The system folders in the other partitions are blessed. For the older operating systems (pre 7.6?) one needed a utility usually included with the disk formatting software, in order to set which partition to boot from. APS PowerTools and FWB Hard Disk Tool Kit included utilities or features that allowed one to choose a boot partition among other functions. It might be an interesting experiment to try the Start-Up Disk CP from 7.6.1 with the earlier OSs. Jeff Walther -- Compact Macs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/. I used HD SC Setup 7.3.5 to format and partition the drives. I also tried System Picker, but it doesn't show any selectable drives...I'm guessing this utility is to pick through mutiple systems on one partition, not among different partitions. What is the proper procedure for selecting a partition to boot from? Thanks, tt -- Compact Macs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/. System picker is a little buggy sometimes especially if you go blessing folders it doesn't do itself. When using System picker only have one blessed folder on each physical drive else you will have problems, turn the search depth up is an option / under options in the drop down menu.. The Startup Disk CP should work for different drives and is also alittle buggy, I find it works generally. good luck -- Compact Macs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/.
