But I've seen very few (well I have seen some but it depends on
who you hang out with) women who will obsess over hardware
tweaking to the extent that guys will, I never talked with a woman
who would eat Ramen for a month to achieve a marginal video
card upgrade.
Only a month? Bah!

I have been given a chore.
The JROTC department at the local high school has a USB flash
drive. Somehow the end (Connector) of the Flash drive has been
broken off, and they need to recover the contents of the flash drive.
What I have considered doing is opening the Flash Drive, and getting
Best to see what the professors are using. Ask what software they find
the most valuable and make sure she can run that.
My son, with a BFA and MFA in theater and a number of stage productions
to his credit, is a Mac user and is convinced that all the best software
for the stage runs on Macs.
I followed the instructions in Word: select pages - format - document -
page setup - landscape icon - OK - apply to selected text.
Are you sure you did the last step, this is critical. To repeat:
1) In the Settings pop-up menu select Microsoft Word
2) In the Apply... to pop-up menu select
it sounds like it should work
keep us posted on how it goes.

I inherited a folder on one of our network drives that was created
maintained by 2 ex-co-workers. There are 1,750 files 160 folders. I
found stuff all over the place, with not much rhyme or reason. I've
tried using PrintFolder to print the contents of the folders, but it
won't show the
The place where I work, a small shop, is moving to broadband from
dial-up. As this new broadband hookup will use the ethernet port
previously used to network two computers for point-of-sale purposes...
Most broadband routers include a 4 port hub/switch. Will that suffice?
The two POS
I recommended a Linux laptop but given that she is studying
management, you really want something that runs Excel,
and unless you are going she is comfortable doing something
like Codeweavers to support windows programs (vmware or a
dual boot setup for the hard-core), you probably have to go

Here, here. Wireless is a pain in many ways. Btw, don't use WEP it can
be hacked.

I finally had a chance to take the flash drive apart.
The connector was literally taken off the board.
I might be able to solder the contacts, connector back on to the
board itself and get it to work. I will sit down when I have the
time to do this and not feel rushed.
Otherwise I will
I googled fix broken Flash drive and here is a wonderful website that

Stupid me. For some reason I was looking for the text to be rotated, the
way it looks, e.g., when it's rotated in Preview. Instead the page itself
rotates and you have to just notice that the margins changed; the text
doesn't appear as though it's changed orientation, though it has.
So I

I am not really in the loop as pertains to decisions in this
situation. I am asking these questions just to see if the powers that

SSD is going to be expensive for a while.
HHD is more interesting in the short term. With memory prices dropping
the hard drive cache is increased to as much as 1 GB. This shouldn't add
much to cost. Of course the data loss will be much worse when computers

Would that it be so easy.
This one pulled the contacts straight off the PCB and all that is
left is spots where the contacts were soldered.
I have salvaged all the contacts, so will attempt to solder them back
on (after having soldered the wires to them) and connect it, get the
data off of
If you heat that chip up, there is a chance you may wipe the memory...
I am not sure but I would think twice about soldering directly...
Have you thought about holding probes firmly to the contacts while
someone else salvages the data?
