Yes, the iPod Touch is basically an iPhone without the phone bits. It

Robert,
I'm a little confused - are you transferring files from your internal hard
drive to the externals, to take advantage of that added storage space? If
so, how do you back up the external drives? Onto other external drives?

According to the news reports it is far cheaper to buy one on Ebay
that is unlocked.
One report I saw said a good percentage of the phones sold here and
unlocked and resold over seas at a hefty profit.
Check out the prices for these unlocked Iphones overseas. About 3-5
times what they are
Would you know off the top of your head which ones?
Most of them. In France and Belgium it is illegal to lock phones. In
Italy carriers are not allowed to subsidize phones so there is little
reason to lock. TMobile (Germany) sells unlocked iPhones. There is also a
big gray market in iPhones.
Is it just me, or are just about all digital TV broadcasts
exhibiting poor sync between their audio and their video?
Could be just your TV that is out.
I have fixed this by turning the TV off on.
