Hello peeps! My name is Aaron Eng. I'm an owner of a mobile app
development company that has created a subscription based app solution for
coworking spaces. I also am working with an investor that is interested in
setting up his own coworking space franchise, which is why I'm excited to
join the group. Looking forward to having some discussions with you guys!

Hi Caner,

Thanks for your feedback! My space wouldn't be dedicated to that community
specifically. It would function as a place for that community to connect
with a broader community. Your suggestion I'll take under consideration as
I continue my research.

2016-09-19 Thread Sharon Rice
Hi Tony,

Thanks for the welcome! My plans right now are to: research the trafficking
survivor community (discover what's being done currently), research how to
develop a co-working space (business plan, numbers, etc), and create a
prospectus that I can use to seek out partners and potential investors.
Primarily I need to do the research on the community I'm seeking to serve
to determine if a coworking model is feasible. It would be great to connect
with folks who may have spaces with a social good mission tied into the
model that could share steps, pitfalls and where they have had success in
rallying support for the idea. With the research, I hope to build a
community first and a space second--a recommendation from Joel Bennett (my
colleague who recommended this group).

I've already begun to look through some of the posts in this group and on
the websites listed as resources. I'm finding great stuff so far!

Thanks!

Sharon

Hello Sharon, I don't think a coworking dedicated to a specific group (in
your case sexual violance victims) is a good idea. Coworking is all about
mixing different type of people: men, women, young, old, experienced and
novice..interaction and communication is the key...instead of opening a
dedicated coworking you may grant incentives (like free membership) to
those in need to join already existing coworkings in their area.

I may be wrong, just my 2 cents.

[Coworking] Re: Community Manager/Tummler role, responsibilities, and tasks

2016-09-19 Thread jen
Hi Thomas!

I used to be the Community/Operations Managerhere are my thoughts

1) If you are trying to create a community, yes absolutely. I found that
people want to connect with others but often times need a push to actually
do it. Having a community manager that knows everyone in the space, even
just a little, makes it easier for them to help facilitate those
connections. Also, in my position, I did all of the onboarding, billing,
event planning, management of members, etc so yes it was vital to have
someone in my position to make sure the space continued to run and collect
payments from members.

2)
1.Give tours and sign up members
2.Connecting the members
3. Event Management
4. Helping the members with all issues that arise
5.Onboarding/billing/keeping the space running

3). Greet the members as the arrive and saying goodbye as they leave
Help members with issues (printing, temperature control etc)
Plan and promote events
Answer phones and emails
Set up tours
Keep the coffee and tea hot and ready
Keep the space tidy
Respond to members requests
Continue to find new ways to connect the community

Hope that helps!

Jen

[Coworking] Opening a coworking space where the landlord is a web design agency

2016-09-19 Thread Clive Walker
I'm considering opening a coworking space where the landlord is a web
design agency who work in an adjacent office. The offices are separate but
the communal areas, kitchen, entrance, meeting room will be shared.

Initially, I thought this would be great because of friendly landlord and
potential for 'synergy'. However, a couple of people have raised concerns
about this, particularly if clients were to move from agency to coworking
freelancer or vice versa, and have said that the agency might be looking
for 'cheap labour'. I'm not sure they are but it's a concern some people
have.

Does anyone have any experience of this type of arrangement? If yes, how is
it working?

Many thanks for any suggestions, comments, advice.
