Blame Linus :-) It's what the kernel does, rsync has 0.0 influence on
this besid
and trigger the bug. You should then
have a core dump. Then do "gdb /path/to/rsync core" and "bt" to get the
stack backtrace. Alternatively make the core dump available to me.
Hopefully that would help pin down the cause of the error.

Either use rsyncd.pid (as suggested by the example) or leave out the pid
file statement.
Please let me know if that does in fact solve your problem.

A little more info would be helpful, as no one else seems to have your
problems.

Why is it trying to do that? What will break now it failed to do that?
Must it do that?

Actually, I should have mentioned I meant in the log rotation scripts.

In any case, using logrotate is cleaner than the old sysklogd way IMHO
:-), although it was nice that sysklogd handled logfile names
dynamically.

ith the first stanza, not with the other two. As e.g. colocated
webservers won't have any printing to do, 'lpr.log' could also be
optional...
BTW, why are the mail files handled separately? Also, rsyslog could be
reloaded twice every night, perhaps that could be optimized as well.

In short, the partitioner shouldn't forget about the non-LVM filesystems
when doing the LVM stuff.
