I am sure there won't be, but if it happens it happens. There's some static libs in Debian where this is the case, afaik. Of course. not having to do that is better, but... How do buildds feel to have to rebuild iceape, iceweasel, icedove, OOo and enchant for every hunspell upload ? You don't have to. So when you fix bugs in hunspell, you want to leave the bugs in the programs that are statically linked to it. How great. I get n=2 which sounds more reasonable, but still the segfault. shrug. let me know if you need more tests, I can act as a dumb (C) terminal. If not, and we are out of time for Etch, I suggest replacing v0.40-2 in sid with 0.39-3 from Sarge. It is slightly less featureful but it works and is very well tested. This part of the header is not filled automatically and I was to lazy to fill it by hand. :-/ I've an other remark, toy sujjest to do: rc.d webserver restart to restart the web server. Bug#402241: spamassassin needs more than 512MB to process innocent 2.5MB email
On Fri, 8 Dec 2006, Duncan Findlay wrote: It's generally a bad idea (i.e. not supported) to stick messages larger than 250k through spamassassin. The spamc client refuses to check messages larger than this size, and the example procmailrc in /usr/share/doc/spamassassin/examples/procmailrc.example mentions this. The only reason I haven't closed this bug is because I can't figure out where this is documented. :-) IMHO, if it's not supported, then spamassassin should do nothing on those messages (unless, maybe, some additional flag is used), instead of processing them, and we should not need the procmail recipe to checks for the mail size. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#402153: console-data: new kmap russian/dvorak
Quoting Daniele Sempione ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): Package: console-data Version: 2:1.01-2 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Hi, I created the keymap dvorak-ru.kmap.gz, now one can switch between dvorak and russian, not only qwerty and russian (like ru.kmap.gz does). It should be put in /usr/share/keymaps/i386/dvorak/ . I attached the .gz, not a real patch, I hope it will be accepted tough. Sounds fair by me. However, I recommend we wait for the current version to reach testing (we need to ask the release team for that, because of the udebs). Alastair, I would really like to see us separate upstream development (new/fixed keymaps and fotns, etc.) and the Debian packaging. Would that be possible some time? What I imagine in cases like this one is having first a Debian patch to add the new keymap...until we release a new upstream version with this patch included, and so on signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#402284: mutt: %O doesn't seem to behave properly in fcc-hook
Subject: mutt: %O doesn't seem to behave properly in fcc-hook Package: mutt Version: 1.5.13-1 Severity: important I have the following in my .muttrc: fcc-save-hook . =mail/%O However, it doesn't seem to work correctly when sending a message. The fcc is always set to =mail/ plus the user part of my email address. I don't think that this is correct behavior considering the documentation for %O under index_format. The documentation claims that %O should be replaced by a list name or the recipient name when there is no list name. In a prior version (the version with RedHat 9.0), it replaced %O correctly with the user part of the recipient's email address. BTW, I am reporting this as important as it seems to be a regression in the UI. Take the library transition of exiv2 forward, or 2. Revert the version of digikam in etch to 0.8 via an epoc upload to unstable which doesn't have this issue as it doesn't use exiv2. I'm pretty happy with either option, but understand you maybe looking at a greater picture. Please let me know which way you would like to go. The attached patch fixes this problem and also cleans up the inline assembly a bit. While I'm at it, I also corrected the other m68k assembly part, the change to nsXPTCStubBase::Stub was not entirely correct as it removed a bit too many registers. OTOH the same can be implemented without any inline assembly. With the fixed xulrunner packages I successfully compiled epiphany-browser and with the few websites I tested it even seems to work fine. Tha patch contains a bad bugzilla bug reference. Could you point to the real one, please ;) Mike -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Or did I miss something? This symbol was added by enabling the assembly code, and at that moment vorlon asked me to unexport it. It looked safe at that moment, and packages didn't start to FTBFS because of the removal. The FTBFS bugs appearing probably mean that the patch needed to be updated. As the #ifdef PNG_HAVE_ASSEMBLER_COMBINE_ROW was replaced by #ifdef PNG_USE_PNGGCCRD, the logic around it has changed. The declaration probably needs to be moved directly to the C file using it so that it is not accessible to the application compiling against libpng. Furthermore, re-enabling this patch will not necessarily be enough to go back on the shlibs. I'm not 100% sure, but IIRC new symbols were added in 1.2.9, and maybe also in later versions. -- Josselin Mouette/\./\ Do you have any more insane proposals for me? signature.asc Description: Ceci est une partie de message numériquement signée

Bug#402199: burn: Please replace cdrecord with wodim
The burn package has dependencies on packages of cdrecord. It would be best if burn's dependencies were changed to wodim | cdrecord and genisoimage | mkisofs to allow it to work with the DFSG-compliant cdrkit fork. Presumably no changes to the actual code would be necessary. Please inform, yourself and then judge again The original (cdrtools) is doubtlessly free software and even Debian did recently did admit this fact, see: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=350624 The fork you are talking about, on the other side repeatedly violates Copyright laws. Do you still like Debian to switch from Free original Software to a questionable fork? As a note: The fork maintainers just started another attempt to remove Copyright notices without permission from the Author. Debian should not depend on a fork whose maintainers did not yet grok the rules of OSS. Bug#402288: adduser allows UIDs 100
Package: adduser Version: 3.100 According to the policy, UIDs and GIDs less than 100 are the same on all Debian systems and come from the base-passwd package. The adduser man page says adduser and addgroup are friendlier front ends to tools like useradd, groupadd and usermod programs, choosing Debian policy conformant UID and GID values --. However, the programs don't enforce this policy item or remind about it in the documentation. The consequences of this bug in the worst case are the consequences of having non-conformant IDs on the system. Those in turn depend on the assumptions made based on the policy item. I propose the following changes: 1. When adduser or addgroup is going to add an id 100, it prints a warning message about policy to stderr: Warning! According to Debian Policy, system administators shouldn't create UIDs 100. 2. The adduser man page excerpt says by default choosing instead of choosing. 3. /etc/adduser.conf and the adduser.conf man page include in their documentation of FIRST_SYSTEM_UID the note: Please note that system software may assume that UIDs less than 100 are unallocated. -- -- Trying to catch me? Bug#401405: Further information and patch
I've been browsing the sources a bit, and the primary case is a bit clearer now. In backend/usb-unix.c, in open_device and list_devices is a loop that is iterating over all possible USB printers and trying to match them against the given URI. It always tries /dev/usblp%d, /dev/usb/lp%d and /dev/usb/usblb%d for any given index and the error handling here is broken - it only reports the errno value of the last attempt to open a printer, and since I don't have 16 printers that is always ENOENT. The fact that it got an EACCESS while opening /dev/usb/lp0 is totally left out. I think the algorithm to better diagnose errors goes like this: 1. If all open() calls set errno=ENOENT, signal that no printers were found. This could also be done using stat(), no need to call open(). 2. If any printers were present but could not be opened, the fact and the reason should go into a logfile. If the search does not find the requested printer, the fact that not all printers could be probed should be returned and a hint to look into the logfile. 3. If you could probe them all, just return whether the requested printer was found. I'm not sure how this should be handled in the case of list_devices, either it should simply print five question marks for the five fields it otherwise fills with the URI and other data or an error message. I took the easy way out using the error message. I have attached the modified usb-unix.c. Changes/Notes: - It now correctly gives me an access denied error in the webfrontend and works as described above. - When invoking the backend without arguments, it now either probes the printer for its ID or gives an errormessage. - I marked a bogus check for EBUSY. - In the whole CUPS sourcecode I found cases where sprintf() was used (potential buffer overflows) or snprintf() used wrong (snprintf() can leave an unterminated string when the buffer is too small). I'd suggest using an xsnprintf()-wrapper, similarly to xalloc() either formatting the string into the supplied buffer or invoking exit() - the code isn't prepared to handle that error anyway, so there's no way to continue. This last point would merit a whole code audit. - I find it also astonishing how many magic numbers are used, as if using a buffer of size 255 or 1024 would magically make your code correct... - All driver backends seem to take similar arguments, except one of them. 'ipp' takes a variable number of files to print. In fact I wonder why there is no central main() function for commandline handling etc that then only calls the implementations from the particular backend. There's a lot of code duplication going on. - There's a weird mixture of tabs and spaces in the files. I only preserved the two spaces indentation depth and didn't use any tabs, but I'd say it would be worth running the whole code through an autoindenter. - There is some code in cups-deviced.c that I don't understand. When invoking the backend, it code first checks if either group or others have read/write/execute permissions on the backend and if yes, it calls seteuid() with the user ID of 'lp'. So, by just removing read and execute permissions on the backend, we can make cupsd call it with root permissions (it then fails without meaningful error when invoking foomatic-rip). I find this idea flawed. Also, quote from the (default) configfile: # Note: the server must be run initially as root to support the # default IPP port of 631. It changes users whenever an external # program is run... IOW, this comment is simply a lie and keeping root privileges is a possible security risk. Well, not that anyone sane would be running CUPS in a hostile network anyway... Okay, so much for that. Sorry for drifting of into ranting towards the end, but I hope the info was at least helpful. Question on that: is there any packaged version of 1.3 already? I would have preferred hacking on that one and not on a released version... Also, you (the maintainers) probably have a connection to the upstream CUPS developers, could you ask them if they could enable bug-reporting without creating yet another account to log into their website? Bug#402294: better dirinstall man page entry
Package: fai-client Version: 3.1.2 Tags: Patch A little patch to get started easier with dirinstall. BTW: it took me a while to find this information, as the output of fai says: ... Calling task_defclass Try to read classes from /var/log/fai/FAI_CLASSES. Failed. Aborting. umount: /tmp/dirinstall-test_02/dev: not mounted ... so, also without -N, it _looks_ like class scripts are executed. Would be clearer if it would say not re-defining classes. Or, for dirinstall with -u, I think in most situtions -N is really what everybody wants, so this could also be changed. Bug#402295: dpkg: please also log warnings etc.
Package: dpkg Version: 1.13.24 Severity: wishlist Hello, currently, dpkg is able to log status change updates and actions to a file. Would it also be possible to log dpkg warning messages etc. to some file as well? Some of these messages (like `unable to delete old directory') are good indicators of garbage left after package upgraded or removals and it is usually a good idea to investigate such situations to keep the real filesystem as close as possible to the package managers notion about how the filesystem should look like. However, with many packages upgraded at once on the one hand and limited scrollback buffers (i.e. on console) on the other hand, it is really hard to catch all these messages on the fly. So logging these messages somewhere would be really helpful. Yes, it provides mechanisms for that and doesn't inform the user of the consequences. Bug#400705: zaptel-source: still fails to build against 2.6.19-rc6 and 2.6.19
On Friday 08 December 2006 21:39, Andrea Borgia wrote: Tried both m-a and make-kpkg, same errors. Does it matter that the kernel build link points to an unusual location? Andrea, zaptel, as far as I can tell is building fine against 2.6.18 which is the target kernel for etch. We only have a matter of days/ weeks before etch freezes, so I wouldn't like to introduce any late changes to zaptel at this stage. Also given the short timeframe before etch freezes, we should be working to getting the pkg-voip packages to a sensible state for etch... Thus I'll give this bug a relatively low priority until etch releases. Mark -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

How great. Bullshit. You are intrepreting stuff everytime I didn't say. Bug#402309: Multiple credit-card charges for single Magnatunes purchase
Package: amarok Version: 1.4.4-1 Severity: serious When you make a purchase using the Magnatunes integrated store, Amarok issues the payment instruction multiple times, resulting in overcharging. While Magnatunes are very good at picking up on this (it seems it's an upstream bug that's happening to a number of people) and reversing the charge, it strikes me that a bug that costs users *actual money* deserves at the very least a serious tag. (Credit card fees and currency exchange rates means you don't get the full amount back if you're not paying in US dollars.) Reproducing the problem: go to the Magnatunes integrated store, right-click an album title and select purchase. Enter your credit card details and click purchase. Expected behaviour: get charged the chosen amount, once. Observed behaviour: get a single confirmation that the transaction has been a success, with links to download the track. But then emails come through indicating that the transaction has in fact been processed more than once - I'm currently looking at three separate confirmation emails for a single purchase, with three separate charges to my card. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
