Nathan == Nathan A Stine [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Nathan Brian, First, it seems you're still using XFree86 rather Nathan than Xorg. I don't know if that changes anything, but it Nathan might. Hmmm. Thanks for raising this issue, I hadn't noticed. I don't have access to that machine now, but I thought it was using Xorg. Strange. However, I note the messages are different. Now I am confused how I upgraded to etch without upgrading this. Also, according to my bug report, xserver-xorg is installed. According to apt-cache, xserver-xorg conflicts with old versions of xserver-xfree86 and current versions of xserver-xfree86 are a transitional package only. This computer is fully up to date with etch. The only thing I can think of is that I got confused and quoted an old log file, but I think I double checked this. Will triple check. This is confusing. Nathan Second, you need the kernel module (fglrx-kernel-src) to Yes, I did this. Nathan use DRI. After compiling the module, you need to make Nathan sure your xorg.conf or the equivalent for XFree86 has the Nathan following lines: Nathan Section DRI Mode 0666 EndSection Nathan Section ServerFlags Option AIGLX off EndSection Nathan Section Extensions Option Composite off EndSection Nathan I'm not absolutely sure on all of those, but they work for Nathan me. Bug#426151: compiz move the windows start location when it is loaded
It's probably because you need to enable the place plugin. To do this, open the configuration editor and point it at /apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options. Double-click the active_plugins entry and add en entry called place to it (without the quotes). You can then control how windows get placed by modifying the /apps/compiz/plugins/place/screen0/options/mode entry. I have mine set to Centered (again, no quotes) but you can set it to Cascade, Smart, Maximize, or Random. -- Kevin Brown [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Unfortunately, compiz is not part of Gnome, so I don't think we can expect it to look as well integrated in Gnome stuff as Metacity or so. Bug#432816: dh-make kernel module: kdist_clean target
Package: dh-make Version: 0.43 Hi, Kel Modderman [EMAIL PROTECTED] reviewed my newly created btrfs-modules-source package and said: * kdist_clean: should call upstream's clean target, not the debian/rules clean target (kdist_clean comes from the debian/rules template for kernel module packaging) Since kdist_clean is called in the context of building the modules binary package (correct?), it should probably call both dh_clean and upstream make clean. Calling debian/rules clean might be wrong because the clean target for building the modules-source (binary) package and the clean target for building the modules binary package is not necessarily the same, so that's why I'm calling dh_clean directly. Bug#432803: compiz: Compiz causes completely blank screen when switching virtual consoles
reassign 432803 nvidia-glx thank you Kevin Brown wrote: I wrote: Furthermore, the X server no longer appears to respond to ctrl-alt-backspace. The only way to recover from this is to kill the offending X server manually. This part doesn't appear to be the case with the latest nvidia driver (version 100.14.11-1), but the rest of the bug remains true, unfortunately. Given which components are involved in rendering compiz and switching from/to VT, the problem is probably much more related to the server core and the driver than to compiz. If you're using the nvidia binary driver, the bug could entirely nvidia-specific and thus non-debuggable on our part. I can't reproduce at all with the intel driver. I didn't see any Debian packages for that, but I'll try it when they appear... By the way, why do you use multiple workspaces instead of a single one with multiple faces of the cube? Is there any interest in using compiz without the cube effect? Yeah, me. :-) The cube effect is cool and gimmicky based on the videos I've seen (I haven't been able to get it to work at all myself), but doesn't look to be as clean and direct as the workspace switcher, and doesn't show you at a glance what your window layout across your workspaces (whether they're separate or not) looks like. Bug#432823: libfcgi-dev: unable to properly handle Expect:100-Continue ?
Package: libfcgi-dev Version: 2.4.0-5 Severity: normal I am using the fastcgi_stdio package under apache2 and encountered a situation which I am not sure is the problem of apache2 or the cgi protocol or fastcgi itself. If the client put a Expect: 100-Continue in the header, either apache2 or fastcgi recognize it and that I can no longer retrieve any of those CGI parameters or HTTP_* headers, until I write out Status: xxx message through the interface. This however is wrong logical wise as I need the CGI parameters for processing before I can put out the right Status line. So instead of responding 403 for access denied(say for an upload), the client receive a 200 OK then a body text of 403. If you have hsize 1, what happens when you try to move a window to the right of your screen? or if you press ctrl-alt-left/right? It should rotate. but doesn't look to be as clean and direct as the workspace switcher, and doesn't show you at a glance what your window layout across your workspaces (whether they're separate or not) looks like. You should just use ctrl-alt-bottom to see all faces of the cube at once and then left/right to switch between them. It's much nicer than the workspace switcher since it's much bigger and you can still see the (reduced) contents of the windows. Bug#432824: Please add || true to gtk-update-icon-cache calls in postinst/postrm
Package: debhelper Version: 5.0.52 Severity: important Please add || true to gtk-update-icon-cache calls in postinst/postrm. The postinsts in Ubuntu are currently bombing out on things like /usr/share/locolor (of openoffice.org) which does not ship an index.theme file. This is arguably a bug in openoffice.org; but the user experience is horrible: due to something silly as an updated icon cache the package installation is broken. Please add || true to the postinsts and postrms, so gtk-update-icon-cache does not bomb out anymore. I really don't want to bitch around, but it might have been worth to check the dh_iconcache before - in Ubuntu we went through several iterations of changes before we were happy with it. The || true change included. Have a nice day, let's hope this is going to be the final change to make us happy with iconcaches. Bug#429533: alternative ?
Shouldn't this be typically the case where alternatives can be used, with the /usr/lib/libboost_***.so being links pointing on /etc/alternatives/libboost_***.so, these links pointing either on /usr/lib/libboost_***-mt.so or /usr/lib/libboost_***-st.so. This should point on the -st files by default (the safer bet, I understood ?) so that code linked to the non -mt nor -st files still compile. In this condition, the default behaviour can be tunable by update-alternative, while keeping the possibility to explicitly link your code on either the -mt or -st files. Bug#432802: compiz: Compiz intereferes with workspace switcher and window selector applets

That does nothing. ctrl-alt-bottom gets me all the faces of the cube but left and right don't do anything. Looks like the keys for that would be space and backspace, but the cube stays up only as long as ctrl and alt are pressed down, and space still does nothing in that context, even if I change it to include ControlAlt. but doesn't look to be as clean and direct as the workspace switcher, and doesn't show you at a glance what your window layout across your workspaces (whether they're separate or not) looks like. You should just use ctrl-alt-bottom to see all faces of the cube at once and then left/right to switch between them. It's much nicer than the workspace switcher since it's much bigger and you can still see the (reduced) contents of the windows. I can see all the faces but not manipulate them in any way. How/where do you have your keys mapped for this? So from a strict usability standpoint, the workspace switcher looks like a better way to go, in my opinion. Still, I don't see why use compiz then :) Because the other effects, like the fade-in and fade-out of windows and such, make for a much more pleasant desktop experience. And the scale effect is *very* nice and useful for picking a window that's on the current workspace. -- Kevin Brown [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#432803: compiz: Compiz causes completely blank screen when switching virtual consoles
Brice Goglin wrote: Given which components are involved in rendering compiz and switching from/to VT, the problem is probably much more related to the server core and the driver than to compiz. If you're using the nvidia binary driver, the bug could entirely nvidia-specific and thus non-debuggable on our part. I can't reproduce at all with the intel driver. So I am reassigning to nvidia-glx for now. One data point against compiz on this: if I use compiz in the session, then disable it (replace it with metacity after turning compiz into a normal session entry), then switch out I can switch back without any issue. So compiz is at least tickling the right bugs in the server here... Not that you can do much to deal with it if you don't have the same drivers, so I still agree that nvidia-glx is the right place for this. -- Kevin Brown [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I've one such case in the past, we only solved it by deleting the whole tree of compiz config in the gconf database. I didn't change it until I tried to get it working. Up until then the key bindings were the default. There were other items that I changed but not the key bindings. Also of note is that defining edges for next slide and previous slide also does absolutely nothing. This is in contrast to plane, which appears to work properly. Another question is: how does one move a window between slides/planes? I can drag it to the edge, go to the next plane/slide, then pick it up from there, but that's very cumbersome to say the least. Much easier to right-click on the titlebar and tell it to move to a different workspace. :-) -- Kevin Brown [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I think you're right: the buildds only build the arch-dependent packages using dpkg-buildpackage -B. So, the solution to this bug is to either move texinfo th Build-Depends, or to not call it when building monotone (as opposed to monotone-doc). That would also explain why, when I built without -B, I did not get any errors: dpkg-buildpackage took Build-Depends-Indep into account. -- Ludovic Brenta. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. BUT now since yesterday i have 2:2.1.0-2 and it came back from suspend (once) fine and can switch VTs fine even after xrandr. Can it be or is it just a fluctuation? Did some relevant patch come in ? Bug#432519: omlet (part of ocaml-tools) does not respect the vim policy
reassign 432519 ocaml-tools retitle 432519 omlet does not respect the vim policy thanks I had a look at this bug report and found the issue. We have two of them: 1) omlet is installed or not in a system-wide manner depending on an answer to a debconf template 2) omlet (if installed system-wide) ships its file under /usr/share/vim/addons/ Starting from the latest vim /usr/share/vim/addons/ is no longer in the vim runtimepath. This is *intended* as addons should be registered to the vim addons registry and the user should be able to decide how to install addons using the vim-addons tool. All this is documented in the Debian Vim Policy [1]. Implement it is pretty easy, you can look at example packages like vim-latexsuite, vim-scripts, or vim-syntax-gtk. Cheers. Bug#432847: /usr/bin/xload: xload needs a way to limit range of values it can display
Package: x11-apps Version: 0.1 Severity: wishlist File: /usr/bin/xload The vertical scale of xload adjusts to accommodate the highest load level. It has horizontal lines to indicate the vertical scale. A high enough load shall cause these lines to be so closely spaced that there is no space between them: the entire display is then white (I have reverse video set, so the background is black and scale lines are white) and I can no longer see the load varying, on account of the lines. Modern machines can endure quite immense loads, so this problem can readilly arise (I routinely get it when running make -j -l 12, if some of the processes make first fires off do very vigorous things once started). The machine is happy, but xload becomes useless ! If the load has a transient spike, the vertical scale adapts to let the spike's top be displayed: if the spike is high enough, xload becomes useless until the spike has scrolled off the left hand end - or until I kill it and start a fresh xload, losing all the data that was on display for the prior four hours (yes, xload is almost the full width of my screen). Note that setting the foreground colour of xload doesn't help: the grid lines are drawn on top of the load data, so would hide it. This could readilly enough be remedied by providing a command-line option, --clip-at=n, to tell xload to not try to display any load level above n. More fancy solutions are possible. It may be sufficient simply to draw the load data on top of the scale lines; then -foreground=red would suffice to make the load graph's shape visible, even when the scale lines are so closely packed as to form a featureless background (giving no indication of scale - other than OMG that's high !). If the vertical scale is huge enough that the horizontal lines use up more than (say) half of the pixels available for vertical height (at this point, it's possible - but getting hard - to read the display), xload could drop the granularity of its vertical scale; only display one in 10 of the horizontal lines, for example. Naturally, this would require some way to indicate that the scale has been adjusted; e.g. the load-level difference between horizontal lines could be displayed in the top left corner of the chart. Of course, the value of 10 (the base of the number system in use) could be controlled by a command-line parameter; or it could just be hard-coded to ten or 0x10. Alternatively, the horizontal lines could be dashed, with multiples of 10 using longer dashes (and multiples of 100 using longer ones yet). The dashes for adjacent values should be staggered, so that they don't simply from a solid vertical column (hiding data in the interval it spans). -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.ISO-8859-15, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.ISO-8859-15 (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages x11-apps depends on: ii cpp 4:4.1.1-15 The GNU C preprocessor (cpp) ii libc6 2.5-9+b1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libfontconfig12.4.2-1.2 generic font configuration library ii libice6 1:1.0.3-2 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libpng12-01.2.15~beta5-2 PNG library - runtime ii libsm62:1.0.3-1 X11 Session Management library ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-7 X11 client-side library ii libxaw7 1:1.0.3-3 X11 Athena Widget library ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.8-2 X cursor management library ii libxext6 1:1.0.3-2 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxft2 2.1.12-2 FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxkbfile1 1:1.0.4-1 X11 keyboard file manipulation lib ii libxmu6 1:1.0.3-1 X11 miscellaneous utility library ii libxmuu1 1:1.0.3-1 X11 miscellaneous micro-utility li ii libxrender1 1:0.9.2-1 X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxt61:1.0.5-3 X11 toolkit intrinsics library ii x11-common1:7.2-5X Window System (X.Org) infrastruc x11-apps recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#432848: mailman: man page formatting screwed up
Package: mailman Version: 1:2.1.9-7 Severity: normal Many man pages in the mailman package do not format correctly on a terminal. For example, list_lists(8) contains: OPTIONS -a, --advertised List only those mailing lists that are publically advertised -V domain, --virtual-host-overview=domain List only those mailing lists that are homed to the given vir‐ tual domain. This only works if the VIRTUAL_HOST_OVERVIEW vari‐ able is set. -b, --bare Displays only the list name, with no description. -h, --help Print a small help text and exit Note that the -b and -h options sppear to be part of the definition for -V. Bug#400583: Bug#390929: compiz: Another window manager is already running on screen: 0
Hi, I'm getting the same problem with decorations, just like to add my own experiences. Compiz runs fine, with full acceleration. But the decorations refuse to load, and gtk-window-decorator starts thrashing 100% CPU time and requires a good killing. I'm running testing/unstable; Here are the versions of relevant packages: compiz: compiz-core: compiz-gnome: compiz-gtk: libdecoration0: Installed: 0.5.0.dfsg-1 xserver-xorg-core: Installed: 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-6 linux-image-2.6.21-2-amd64: Installed: 2.6.21-5 nvidia-glx: Installed: 100.14.11-1 Yes, I have GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap. My xorg.conf has the usual requirements. Compiz itself works fine, as it has in the past; it's the decorator that's not responding. I thought it could be some conflict with old compiz settings, so I tried again with a test user that I blank out. Same results: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ compiz --replace GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is available with direct rendering. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gtk-window-decorator --replace gtk-window-decorator: Could not acquire decoration manager selection on screen :0.0 Finally, I wondered if metacity was somehow interfering, so I logged in with a failsafe xterm session. Running compiz works (no need for --replace), but gtk-window-decorator still complains. Any ideas? Or should I just wait until the new-fangled compiz-fusion arrives in unstable? It's not like I absolutely --must-have-- window decorations. -James -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
